Re: My Winter Upgrades
Well just drove her home, and she's safe and sound back here in the garage. Will continue with some finishing touches tomorrow morning bright and early!
Thanks again Momin for the hard work you put in. |
Re: My Winter Upgrades
Lets see some pics / videos of the exhaust work / sound.

Re: My Winter Upgrades
Took her our for a quick spin today. Boost controller wasn't working quite right. Hit 30 psi and blew an intercooler pipe off. I need that whole thing just re-made because it fits like shit. Otherwise so far so good!
|
Re: My Winter Upgrades
Boost controller is working fine now. Starting to get her dialed in at 20psi for starters. Hope to have a video up to show how the new exhaust sounds. I was hoping it'd be a little bit quieter, but what do ya do. It still turned out great I think!

Re: My Winter Upgrades
sounds awesome, what was the problem?

Re: My Winter Upgrades
verry niice!

Re: My Winter Upgrades
Well with the old PTE, there was a fitting on the compressor housing to hook the boost controller up to. Not on the BW. So I know people have hooked up boost gauges to the "P" port on their TB's before, so I tried just using that as the pressure source just for the drive home. That didn't work too well because I was hitting 30psi with only a 1 bar spring installed in the WG. I'm now just Tee'd into the BOV line and it's working much better. I do plan on installed a fitting into the lower IC pipe though and use that as the pressure source later on.

Re: My Winter Upgrades
You can always just drill and tap the compressor housing to get your pressure source there. I had to do that with my turbo.

But not sure it could get much quieter with everything being straight through.. it has the 18" Vibrant resonator, and a decent size muffler. But I do like the way everything laid out. |
Re: My Winter Upgrades
Yeah, I think you did as much as you could to keep it as quiet as possible without going to some kind of chambered muffler. It turned out great, no complaints. Let me know how much I still owe you, and I'll wire it right away.
Big thanks to LB for mounting the tires on the rims today! Got all 4 rims mounted. Can't take a picture until Derek comes home with the camera. Also put the old 1G TB back on because the NT one needs new seals. Boost was leaking past pretty bad. I have the new seals, and will be rebuilding it in my spare time. For anyone else who needs these seals, cost me $8 total out the door for both seals at NAPA. |
Re: My Winter Upgrades
For those who saw my car yesterday and were interested in that nylon braided hose, here's how to find it.
The fuel line I made is using Earl's Pro-Lite 350 nylon braided hose. It is NHRA legal for fuel use, and is rated for up to 350psi. To save a few bucks, Jegs has their own nylon braided stuff as well that is more then likely identical to the Earl's, and it's also NHRA legal according to their sales rep. http://www.jegs.com/p/Earl%27s/751252/10002/-1/10019 http://www.jegs.com/p/JEGS/761335/10002/-1/10019 The nylon braided stuff I have for my vacuum lines is from McMaster-Carr. I do not believe it is NHRA legal for fuel use though. You can find it by going to: www.mcmaster.com : Type in p/n: 5394k and then click on the Buna-N link on the left. It'll end up being the 2nd to last product on that catalog page. 3/8" hose fits pretty well on the PCV and the side fitting on the valve cover. |
Re: My Winter Upgrades
Post up the number on those seals too.

http://www.ca.dsm.org/faq/tb-shaftseals.html quoted from the vfaq: As an aside, Craig Berndt did some looking and has found a place where one can obtain the seals. I was purchasing them from a local supplier in my area, but wasn't sure whose make they were, only that they worked. Craig says that they are available from Chicago Rawhide, part # 3930 CR 10x14x3 HM4 R. He also has suggested using www.kamandirect.com as a source to purchase them. Steve Piette also emailed to say that NAPA can get them as well, using the above CR part number. |
Re: My Winter Upgrades

Re: My Winter Upgrades
I was out of town all weekend at the lake cabin man. I also have a wedding this weekend, but I'll let you know if I'm out and about.
And the 3/8" comes in 5' lengths. That's what I bought. |

I don't have a camera right now, so here's just a crappy cell phone picture of what I've been up to today. I got the stock IM off, and put in the JMF one. Good thing I have skinney arms, because it was tricky getting that stocker off with the head still on the car.
I also put the new shaft seals in the NT TB. Those seals were a frigging TIGHT fit. But it seems to work fine so far. We'll see for sure once I can boost leak test the system. I also reinstalled the FIAV/ISC stuff back onto the TB to hopefully help with my idle slightly. I blocked off the FIAV portion of it though. Now really just need to rework the UICP and I should be good to go. The pic shows the new manifold in. Also shows the JMF catch can installed, with the nice braided vacuum hose. I'm heading out right now to cut the line from the Can to the SMIM, and install one of my $2 check valves. |
