Update: Check valve in, of course the main pump was switched from what I expected it to be (it wasn't the stock bulkhead) so changed my design a bit. However it's in and working! http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/8669f807.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/3c931492.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/79f000d8.jpg Hard to tell from the last pic, flash reflected off the glass. But over 50psi at idle now :) Before I had the regulator bottomed out, as in max pressure, wouldn't go above like 42..now it's backed off some and over 50psi...so looks like problem solved! Oh also picked this up...prolly best $20 ever spent. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/bd98853d.jpg No more stupid logging cable in the way of shifting, yay. Back to tuning! |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
So I logged the car with ~63ish base fuel pressure and it didn't produce the results we really wanted at all, car was adding fuel all over.
So I am dropping it down to a base pressure of ~50 and we are going to go from there. On a plus side, the car seems to be quite a bit better when shifting, like no delay, not sure if that is from better fuel pressure but it seems better. Also, there is a HUGE improvement in starting!!! The car used to take like 3-4 seconds of cranking to start and now I know why, fuel was dumping out the other pump. The car now starts almost instantly, feels great. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Back to ~50psi base fuel pressure now. Car is driving great again! Nearing the end of the pump gas tune.
However, I apparently run out of gas at 1/4 of tank...lol. Got stuck in a papa murphys parking lot with 1/4 of a tank of gas. I put 3 more gallons in the car after my bro picked me up with a gas jug and it fired right up again. I am going to rework my pump pickup eventually but for now I will keep the gas level high. However, running into a bit of knock up top that wasn't there before (aka last week). I think its probably from the shitty super america 92 I put in to top the car off. I wasn't near a BP station so I figured I'd put that in for now and then fill the car up at bp...guess that gas really sucks as it appears to be affecting the tune somewhat. We tried leaning the car out from 11 to 11.5 to see if it was rich knock, helped a bit but still there. I now have 2 maps to try, one with lower timing one with higher to see if those change it. The higher timing is because evo x's for whatever reason tend to act up if you don't give them enough timing...i know last fall the car was even breaking up from too low of timing, then Shane added some and it cleaned up right away. Car is at ~450whp or so on 22psi with knock so hopefully I can get about 475ish and clean on 22-24psi and then call it good for pump gas then get to the real shit. More to come. edit: here is what the logs look like currently for those who care to check them out. Looking again it just might be too much timing for 93oct on my 10:1 comp, so maybe the lower timing MAP I have will clean it up as the car is perfect until it jumps up a degree in timing. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...o26/Knocky.jpg Green = timing blue = boost orange = afr red (or brown or whatever the hell that is) = knocksum |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Anyone have a helmet for sale that is at least snell2005? Or where is the best place to at least go try some on for sizing and possibly buy one. I am hoping to only spend $200 at most. Don't need anything fancy, just something to get this POS down the track finally.
Planning to hit RF the 14th of July... |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
If you want to get a motorcycle helmet try a dealership or bobs cycle.

This is what I have, although I remember paying a bit less for it, closer to $150 shipped? Maybe it was a promo or something...anyways, I highly recommend it Hughes and several others have the same one. http://www.apexperformance.net/CartGenie/prod-2252.htm Anyways, you can use mine if you want to try it, esp for sizing. I have a large or XL, I can't remember. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
check out the closeout section on dennis kirk. I got a snell 2005 HJC from them a year or so ago for like $60 bucks.
https://www.denniskirk.com/helmets/1.outlet Red Joe Rocket snell2005 for $72 https://www.denniskirk.com/joe-rocke...d/3302133L.sku |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
IIRC I think helmets are generally good for 10 yrs, snell 2000 good to 2010, 05 to '10. Might be worth it to spring for a snell 2010, i swear reading somewhere that a track was only taking '05 and '10. A few years go by quick these days

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
SNELL2005 are good until 2015.
You'll probably want to also make sure it's Snell SA-rated since those are designed for auto racing, not motorcycles. Generally, they're lighter in weight and flame resistant. Here's what I have: http://www.pyrotect.com/product.php?...&cat=14&page=1 Here's a whole bunch of other choices though, including some really cheap ones if you're ok with Snell2005 and college logo paint: http://www.pyrotect.com/home.php?cat...rt_direction=0 |

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I used the measurement chart online for the brand I bought and it worked perfectly. If you're right on the edge between two sizes, go larger.
