Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

The only NGK copper plugs available for the IX are a heat range hotter and are from a Yamaha outboard. The iridiums seem to work very well in the Evos (as my stock ones with 46k miles prove). I just hope these Densos are as reliable and long-lasting as the stock NGK's.

A little extra carbon fiber to go along with the COP plate:

I got a new harness with black braided fiberglass wire sheath instead of the gray silicone sheath :D I also had the harnesses extended to get the plugs off the top of the valve cover.

Its tough to tell in the pictures but its very noticeable in person. The silicone sheaths were the one thing I thought looked cheap about these kits, but this braided sheath looks much nicer (plus its black rather than gray).

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

Well, Teh Gheyrod has been a bit of a whore these past two week but I think we're past the pain and it once again loves me.

Two Fridays again it was spewing coolant out of the rubber turbo coolant feed hose which luckily O'Reilly had a replacement hose that fit nearly perfectly for $10. Its a small 3/8" molded 90-degree bend with a few inch long legs.

This past Friday coming home from work doing about 80mph down the tollway I was slowing down for traffic and lost a lot of pressure in my brake pedal. I got the car slowed with some pumping of the pedal and down-shifting, but I left most my ATE Super Blue brake fluid all over the road. My front driver side stainless brake line had been lightly rubbing on the shock body and finally wore through and sprung a leak. I was able to slowly get the car home then Saturday I replaced the line with a spare stainless line I luckily had laying around. My friend brought me some Amsoil DOT4 brake fluid since he is a dealer and none of the shops that stock ATE Super Blue are open on the weekends. Amsoil DOT4 is actually slightly better fluid, but at 3x the price.

Wow, that's pretty scary about the brake line. Luckily you were able to get it slowed down.

When installing yours just be really careful with the fitment! The bracket in the center of the line is movable so make sure its located exactly where it needs to be in order for the line to not rub on anything. I learned the hard way (luckily not too harsh of a lesson) so hopefully my mistake can remind people to be careful and at least double-check their aftermarket brake lines.

Most people would have freaked out and slamed harder on the brakes and crashed. Good thing you had time to slow down.

Would have been forced to slap a Toyota badge on it and blame the electronics!

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

Earlier this week I built my speed density patched Tephra v5.10 ROM and today I made the switch. I've spent the majority of my day driving around logging and tweaking the SD tables and values. It's not even close to perfect yet, but its a whole lot closer now that it was at first. I'm still working on the part-throttle cruising aspect and once that is dialed-in I'll work my way up to boost and WOT conditions.

My initials impressions do show the car to have smoother light-throttle drivability below 2,000 RPM.

Thank you to Scheides for giving me pointers along the way!

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

After spending 6 days doing tons of logging and tuning...

SD ROM v27 is a success! I was just out making multiple clean WOT pulls and the car feels great! Time to order a Perrin air filter that will fit directly to my intake pipe.

Also, a special big thanks to Scheides for always being willing to look over logs and giving me pointers along the way since he's already converted 3 cars!

Re: Whats new with Teh Gheyrod...

I got some new rubber last night. One of my tires picked up a big bolt very close to the sidewall so it was unrepairable. Being how AWD needs all matching tires I opted to just buy a complete new set. Luckily I found a store with a set of 245/40-17 Sumitomo HTR Z III's in stock that was willing to negotiate on price to bring pricing closer to TireRack's ($103 on TireRack, got these for $115 but didn't have to pay shipping).

Nice! I thought you were saying you wanted to try a new tire the other day?
