Any info on the construction on 94 from MG to Rogers? Is it gonna be really bad and we should take 81, or fuk it and stay on the freeway?

Good question. Also, is anybody interested in caravaning up there this evening, or is this impractical due to schedules?

I'm going to pick up the flatbed here a little later. I think I'm going to be driving up to, and staying at Ottertail tonight. Then just wake up early and drive to Brainerd in the morning. We plan to camp there, but if it starts to get real ugly and rainy out, we may just get a hotel room. The weather shows it may rain. As long as it's decent out, we will be camping.

I-94 between the Fish Lake Interchange and the Crow River

Traffic Impacts:

This week (June 21-25):

The Elm Creek Rest Area (on the eastbound side of I-94) will be closed between at 9 a.m. Monday, June 21, and 5 a.m. Wednesday, June 23.
The Maple Grove Pkwy ramps to and from eastbound I-94 will be closed overnight from 8 p.m. Monday, June 21, until 5 a.m. Tuesday, June 22. Please follow posted detours.
The Weaver Lake Road ramps to and from eastbound I-94 will be closed overnight from 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, until 5 a.m. Wednesday, June 23. Please follow posted detours.
This weekend (June 25-27):

The ramp from eastbound I-94 to southbound I-494 will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday, June 25 until 2 p.m. Sunday, June 27. Please follow posted detours to Hwy 169 and I-394 in order to access southbound I-494.
Temporary lane closures on eastbound I-94 will also occur at the Fish Lake interchange while the ramp is closed. The roadway may be reduced to one lane at times.
Other impacts:

The ramp from northbound Hwy 101 to eastbound I-94 is closed until late June. Motorists will be detoured to the southbound Hwy 101 loop to access eastbound I-94.

Motorists should expect congestion and major delays during non-rush hour lane closures on eastbound and westbound I-94 between Rogers and Maple Grove until late summer. The roadway may be reduced to two lanes during the day, and to one lane overnight. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes to avoid congestion, and check www.511mn.org for current lane closure information.

Project Description:
Continued growth in the northwestern Twin Cities Metro area is expected to place additional traffic burdens on Hwy 101 and on the I-94/Hwy 101 interchange in Rogers.

Several projects are scheduled to begin this spring to repair pavement on the interstate to improve ride quality. Reconstruction of the I-94/Hwy 101 interchange will improve safety on both the interstate and Hwy 101.

The interchange improvements are in partnership with the city of Rogers. Funding for the project was received from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Concrete pavement repair/resurfacing of I-94 ($17 Million)

Concrete resurfacing of 7.5 miles of I-94 from the Fish Lake Interchange (I-94/494/694) to just east of Hwy 101 begins in April.
Pavement joints will also be repaired and replaced.
An additional project to blacktop resurface 4 miles of the interstate from just east of Hwy 101 to the Crow River begins in June and includes resurfacing of the shoulders.

Funding for this project does not include building additional lanes on the interstate.

Interchange improvements at I-94 and Hwy 101 ($5 Million)

Reconstruction of the loop from southbound Hwy 101 to eastbound I-94 begins in June.
The ramp from northbound Hwy 101 to eastbound I-94 will be rebuilt and lengthened to provide a longer acceleration lane for traffic merging onto the eastbound interstate.
A concrete barrier along the inside of the ramp will improve safety by preventing vehicles from merging too quickly into the third lane of I-94 before reaching freeway speeds.
The ramp from northbound and southbound Hwy 101 to westbound I-94 will be reconstructed and lengthened to allow for better acceleration and improved safety for vehicles merging onto the westbound interstate. During the work, westbound I-94 will be restricted to a single lane and the ramp will be closed one weekend, from 11 p.m. on a Friday night until 6 a.m. on a Monday morning. The specific date will be announced later.
A new exit ramp and bridge is being built to carry traffic from westbound I-94 to northbound Hwy 101. This new, longer flyover ramp and bridge will be extended further north over South Diamond Lake Rd. to better move through traffic heading north on the highway. The ramp will split just off the freeway to allow local traffic to access Rogers at a signal system. See map

Intersection of Hwy 101 and Hennepin County Road 81 ($6 Million)
A separate project administered by Hennepin County will realign the intersection of Hwy 101 and County Road 81 south of I-94. The signal system will remain at the intersection.

For more information, visit the County Road 81 in Rogers Web page.

Completion of all projects is in the fall of 2010.

The flatbed I'm taking is 20', and so I will probably have some room to strap a couple sets of tires to the front of it because the car won't take up the whole space.

gimme a ring today.

Well I guess just keep an eye on traffic and take 94, 81, or just hwy 10 the whole way:

It's hit or miss around that time especially around the weekend. I say you should be ok between MG and Rogers. But there is also construction at the 494 and 94 split to I think.

Re: Modern Automotive Performance 2nd Annual Sport Compact Proving Grounds June 26-27

I dunno what way you guys are going, but on a Friday, between like 4-6, heading up 94W towards Rogers, you are almost guaranteed traffic. I've taken that trip more than most on here I bet, as I go up to Ottertail a lot. Even with all the lanes open, I usually hit bumper to bumper, 10mph traffic on Friday evenings right around Rogers. If there are lanes closed, yeah I'd bet on traffic. Everyone heads up north to cabins on friday evenings, and takes that way. I take 10 now. Then turn straight west in Big Lake and hop on 94 there. Usually bypasses most of that crap.

I guess that's one advantage to leaving EARLY Saturday morning. It's been a while since I've hit a road course, I figure I'll try it again.
