Re: my new project

I picked up my new oil pump and timing belt from map this morning so I want to try and get it back together this weekend and do a compression test and maybe a leak down test.

If anyone is feeling motivated and wants to work on a talon Sunday or Monday you're more than welcome to come help!

um, update please.

Re: my new project

Unfortunately there really isn't anything to update. I haven't touched the car since the last time I posted. I just really have no motivation to work on it for now

Whats with selling all the parts?

Re: my new project

Works been slow for quite some time and I'm getting behind on some medical bills. I would be fine playing catch up if things went well this spring but I'mjust at a point where iI'm sick of being broke all the time because I'm constantly funneling all my money into the car. Since the car isn't a necessity and I'm in no hurry to fix it if I can unload a few parts to get caught up and back ahead I might as well

turbotalon1g 06-22-2013 12:33 PM

Re: my new project

Sounds like even if your money isn't rolling in, the smart choices are.

4seasons69 06-22-2013 12:40 PM

Re: my new project

Yeah. The first 6 months of this year vs the first 6 months of last year I'm honestly down about 8-10k. If I could unload the turbo and slicks I'd like sitting pretty. Then when business picks up I'd probably just go with a big a/r 6266. But if there is enough interest and the prices are right I'll probably sell other stuff off the car too

4seasons69 06-27-2013 12:48 PM

Re: my new project

I here's a tiny update. I did a leak down test to on my car with less than favorable to results but not as bad as I was expecting. So the plan for now is put everything back together Saturday and see if it will run. If it runs I'll let it warm up to operating temperature. Then do a compression test and another leak down test and see if my numbers change.

If anyone is bored and wants to come help/hangout out are more than a welcome too

Re: my new project

Well it was a long day! running around getting parts and supplies then working on the car. I got the new oil pump in with a turned down stock balance shaft instead of a stub shaft. hopefully that will work better. we got everything back together. Paul (tachyon) was kind enough to come help! he timed the engine while I was putting other things back together. A huge thanks to Paul!

It fired up no problem first try. seemed to run fine while warming it up to operating temperature. vacuum is the same as it was before and steady. It's not doing anything goofy or funky. so once it was warm we did a compression test. all 4 cylinders were 155psi. with the way it ran and the compression results we didn't do a leak down test.

Tomorrow I'm going to try and put a few miles on it and see how it runs. If it seems to run and drive okay I'm just going to leave as is and get it on the dyno asap and see what happens. Right now I'm just quite surprised things have gone how they have. Kind of shocked. I guess we'll see how it goes.

I still cannot believe that thing runs (well in fact) and pulls the same compression numbers as before!

Yeah me too! I'm just happy I might actually catch a break with this thing (knocks on wood/fingers crossed).

As for compression numbers they are old engine vs new engine. I didn't get any numbers on the current engine before the pump locked up. but still right there

Yeah very lucky! I guess we're not completely out of it yet. I gotta put a few miles on it to make sure all is well then get it back on the dyno. If they're are any issues I'msure tthey'll make themselves apparent on the dyno.

Re: my new project

Well took the car out today with. It runs pretty dang good. Put almost 100 miles on it. Of course they were not trouble free mile. My lower control arm bushings on the right side are shot. And I think my drivers side front axle is toast too. But keeping things positive these are easy fixes and the car seems to run good so over all its been a successful weekend I think

It definitely needs to go back on the dyno. It's still pretty much untuned. Even if it doesn't do what I want I would still rather play it safe than sorry

Boost will come as soon as I can afford to get it back on the dyno!

Re: my new project

Alrighty so I already have a new axle and I ordered control arm bushings that should be here wednesday. So I will replace those parts wednesday at my work and just check the car over again. Then it's just putting some miles on it and making sure all is good to go.

Tentatively I'm trying to get a tune scheduled for the 15th or 16th so we'll see what happens. Otherwise they're booked out till like the 28th :-/

Alrighty round 4 on the dyno is set for the 16th. Hopefully some of this luck I've had recently will continue on!

Sometimes you get a little lucky with these cars! Good luck on the tuning, did you get your fuel issue all sorted out?

Yes sir I did get the fuel issues figured out. It was one of the rubber lines in the tank had ruptured. Last time it was on the dyno we seemed to get all the bugs sorted out and were finally able to get to the actual tuning

Re: my new project

Well with the exception of losing my hood today was a relatively successful day. I replaced the control arm bushings, drained the oil, then hooked up our engine flush machine and flushed the sucker out so if there was any metal in any of the oil galleys there shouldn't be any more. I changed the oil filter, changed the inline filter for the turbo oil feed.

I put new plugs in it, shortened the coil boots, put bolts in places that were missing bolts, (fenders, t-case, flywheel inspection cover, etc) and just cleaned up as much stuff as I could.

Also I removed the rear crash bumper should be about 32lbs removed from the car. Which will bring my total weight savings since the got the car to around 47lbs.

Re: my new project

Nice!!

So it doesn't make any weird noises anymore?

4seasons69 07-05-2013 07:31 PM

Re: my new project

Kinda. Sounds like something in the drivetrain might be clunking at times. But i think Ihad one of my carrier bbearings on upside down so I flipped it around. we'll see if that helps. Plus my carrier bearing bushings are definitely shot. They will have to be replaced eventually. I'll know more after I drive it back to its parking place

Re: my new project

Remember what I said about replacing those, its not a simple swap job.

Oh I remember! The car seems better than before. No more weird wobble on the highway. Less noises. There are a few things that seem off. There a noise like a vibration on decel. Sometimes when starting out Ithink I hear something in the driveline clunk. 3rd gear felt funny shifting into sometimes. Idk I could be overly paranoid right now ha

Still no tune, no laptop, plus the last time it was on the dyno it had e70 in it ;-). Fun shall be had after the 16th if all goes well!

I ended up having to help me buddy move since he's nice enough to store my car for me for free
