Re: 91 Galant VR4
Thanks, the tranny shifts great. I will figure out a launch before it sees the track again, then I will try some no lift to shift stuff.

Re: 91 Galant VR4
Looks great John! is it a little laggy in 1st off the line?
|
Re: 91 Galant VR4
Not really, the first run of the day it spun in 1st. Then the 2nd run I need to launch about 1500rpm higher then I did, they just finish track prep so there was a lot more traction.

Re: 91 Galant VR4
Goodluck on your future passes.
|
Re: 91 Galant VR4
The issue was not the EMS dumping the tune, but the one issue I set on before leaving the track. The 1/4 coil is toast, its the electrical connections and the base of the coil started to arc out to the mounting bolt. So I now have 2 replacement coils and the car should be at Cedar Falls the 26th for some more track duty. I will be working on the launch for the first few runs, then its off to break the record.

thanks john... for letting us park in your pit and help out when it was needed...

Re: 91 Galant VR4
I ran at Cedar Falls this weekend, It all came down to track prep, I knew what RPM I need to launch at to get the 60' and 1/2 shift where they need to be to get the 9 second pass. But the track had no prep, so it just spun with a little wheel hop. Then I tried lowering the launch RPM and tire pressure, I ended up with a 1.73 60', but it did not shift into 2nd, so it was a bad run.
My last pass of the day I upped the boost a hair, cooled the W/A down, lowered the tire pressure again and ran another low 10. 10.11@149mph, I was 2mph slower in the 1/8 vs my Rock falls run, so the traction in 1st/into 2nd was not there. I looked over the logs and I could see the lack of traction, but I was happy to see my shifts averaged a .250 seconds, and I nailed the shift points with in 100rpm of 9500rpm on each run, my last run it got up to 9500rpm in 4th, so I may need to up the rev limiter a hair. The day was cut short again, the radiator started to leak, so I cut it off to fight another day. ~John |
Re: 91 Galant VR4
sweet jeebus, still some badass mph on that sucker!!

Re: 91 Galant VR4
holy crap 140 trap speed that is insane. are you done for the year?

Re: 91 Galant VR4
haha. i missed the typO! apparently it is. I've looking around the internet/youtube and it seems that you have the fastest trap for a gvr4 :D

Re: 91 Galant VR4
Good luck in October!!
John, have you looked at trying to setup the AEM traction control? With the trac prep issues, perhaps limiting the power in 1st and 2nd to the limit of the traction will help you fix the short time. Let me know if you want help. |
Re: 91 Galant VR4
That will be next year, right now it has a ball/spring MBC.
Pending temps with the good track prep on the test and tune days at Rock I should be able to get the 60' down to the 1.6 it needs to be. The hand break helped a lot with getting the launch, I will also setup the 2 step and the no lift to shift, I looked over the logs and the engine likes to free rev when I shift, I see where I shift at 9500 but the motor keeps going. In the logs the motor got to 9950rpm between some of the shifts. I thought they were going to do track prep at the house of hook, if I knew they were going to do no prep I would have waited and gone to rock falls for a test and tune. Next year on QTP tires I might have better luck with less track prep. ~John |

Re: 91 Galant VR4
Decel fuel cut might not turned on or set right. Or idle motor is open too much or not enough BOV. But might just be the decel fuel cut, even if it has too much air after letting off the throttle, it will need fuel to keep going up in rpms.
|
Re: 91 Galant VR4
I need to work on the decel fuel settings, I have put as little effort in drivability with the stupid 160lb injectors as possible. I will focus more on that next year with the ID2200's.
As for the BOV no one is really sure if it works or not, I can not hear it and there is no good video from the dyno to see it in operation. ~John |
Re: 91 Galant VR4
I was too busy trying to see some glowing headers like all the youtube vids. Anyway, you already know it works and sounds like a shotgun.

John,
Send me your map and a few log and I'll fix your decel fuel setting/get that bitch to ride the rev limiter like Ryan's car did. swanny09@yahoo.com |
Re: 91 Galant VR4
Hey if you are going out again this year I can borrow you my QTP’s and Rota’s. I don’t think there would be any off set/back spacing issues. My season is over with the 1G, as you witnessed at cedar falls. I bet you could break 150 MPH with them, and get in to the 9’s.
|
Re: 91 Galant VR4
I am 4 lug right now, I plan to do a 5 lug conversion before I turn the power up, but it may be possible to get that done before the last day at rock falls. I will let you know tomorrow night, thanks.
And yes I saw, I was 2 car behind you. That sucks about your break, do you know what let loose yet? ~John |

Re: 91 Galant VR4
sorry mark, but you won me $5.....
As soon as they said that the drivers and crews would have ot clean up there messes, I bet the guy next ro me that it there would be some catastrophic failure in the first 5 pairs.... |
Re: 91 Galant VR4
This is one of many videos to come, the last dyno run of the night. This is on E85 running 38psi with the AEM EMS V2 tuned by Shane @ DB Performance.
There are close up shots of the dyno charts in post #485 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Buz0GmjLCDU&hd=1 ~John |
Re: 91 Galant VR4
Muahahah! Coming to MAP today? Somebody sandbagging for top whp prize I see? SO awesome!

Re: 91 Galant VR4
That video was from a few weeks ago, I did plan to drive the car to the event. My car fund is low, so I did not plan to dyno.
After the track I knew I had a radiator leek, and my oil level was 1/2 quart higher after my last run of the day. So I fixed the radiator leak only to find I was getting coolant in my oil. After a little run time I had a 1 quart of water in my oil. So I pulled spark plugs and found the #2 plug was wet and standing water in the cylinder. So I bought a head gasket at MAP thinking it was that, we pulled the head off the car saturday night. Only to find the head gasket and cylinder head looked great. Then I looked in the #2 cylinder to find the problem. The #2 cylinder wall has a 3-4" long vertical crack in it. So the block is junk. I will pull the motor out and do a full tear down this week. I might be able to have this running mid next season. http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...P311010021.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...P311010022.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...P311010042.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...P311010043.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...P311010041.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...P311010025.JPG ~John |

That sucks I was hoping to see it run this weekend at the test and tune.

Damn, John. :( I'm glad it was caught early on and didn't cause some other catastrophic failure.
