Re: Project Lex
Brief update:
Installed new Dist Cap and rotor for good measure, and because they are cheap http://www.clublexus.com/forums/atta...-new-rotor.jpg New IS300 ignition setup has arrived (to be installed this winter) http://www.clublexus.com/forums/atta...1&d=1314666512 Raw materials from Discount Steel to make my own intake manifold this winter because I refuse to pay $800+ for just a plenum http://www.clublexus.com/forums/atta...1&d=1314666512 Yesterday http://www.clublexus.com/forums/atta...1&d=1314666512 Big thanks to Shane at DB Performance for the dyno time. Never made a clean pass due to misfires above 8psi. Also found I made a mistake hooking up my wastegate. So because of those two problems I went home with a small TO-DO list, and a couple spare parts from Shane's SC300. I fixed my WG issue. And using Shane's parts, troubleshot my misfire problem to the coil, must be old and degraded. Luckily I had a spare Junkyard coil in the garage. Turns out it works like a champ. Car is boosting at about 10-12psi right now, AFR's in the 11's, but I'm going to stay out of boost for the most part until I can get back on the dyno, which should be next week. Junkyard spare coil installed: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/atta...kyard-coil.jpg Pile O Troubleshooting parts, thanks again Shane :) http://www.clublexus.com/forums/atta...c300-coils.jpg |
Re: Project Lex
Nice! Awesome update...keep it up. Can't wait to see some numbers. Glad its coming together man.
|
Re: Project Lex
Woot and toot! Cant wait to see some numbas.
|
Re: Project Lex
Yeah, a whole 250hp @ 10psi probably... LOLz :)
|
Re: Project Lex
green bean makes a lot more than 250, i'd say 350/350.
Car feels fucking awesome and all the sounds are overwhelming. It's definitely moving a lot of car and it moves it well. I can't wait to see what it does after the tune. |
Re: Project Lex
Cool thanks man, glad you like it. I do love how loud the turbo is, and the exhaust tone of this car. Just need to recirc my wastegate dump, not a fan of the loud annoying blahhhh. Drowns out the much better sounds like the turbo and sexay exhaust tone. I have some flex exhaust tubing on the way. And thanks for hooking me up with those small straight sections that I can use, it'll be perfect for what I'm planning I think.
Car is still running like a champ. So I'm not going to touch a thing until dyno day. So for the time being, started planning some misc stuff. Since I'll be making my own Intake Mani, I was thinking about what to do for vacuum ports on it. So made this crude drawing showing the simplest and cleanest way to run to run these lines. It involves using a couple Tee's which I'm not 100% a fan of, but seems like it would end up being the cleanest and simplest way of doing things, because some of them it means I only have to run one line and the 2 components are somewhat close to each other so then I just Tee it right near the components, rather than running 2 separate lines. Just a little simpler and cleaner. And where I use a Tee, I use a larger line feeding the Tee which is 2 smaller lines to hopefully reduce any issues with pressure loss or whatever could be caused from running a Tee. But, interested to hear other peoples thoughts... http://www.clublexus.com/forums/atta...1&d=1314849238 |
Re: Project Lex
When i was doing alot of reading for my car I came across something online that may help your tuning. I think your MS has a map sensor built into the box correct? So this means that you have to run a vacuum line from the engine to the MS ecu? People were saying regarding tuning like that witht he supras that it is better if you either plum a hard line for most of the run from the intake to the ecu or have the map sensor as close to the intake as possible. Can you run an external map sensor and input it into MS to work the same as the internal one?
|
Re: Project Lex
Not sure. But I have no desire to run an external MAP sensor to be honest. It means I have to drill/tap a sensor into the intake, then run all the wires for that. I personally love the idea that I do not have to do that, and simply just need to run a vacuum line to the box.
FYI my setup actually has 2 MAP sensors, 1 which is hooked to the intake via a vacuum line, and the other just open to the atmosphere, that way it can correct for barometric differences, which is pretty sweet I think. |
Re: Project Lex
Hit the dyno today, went much better this time around. Dyno video with results will be posted in the next day or so :P Here's some teaser pics:

Re: Project Lex
Woooooot!!!

Re: Project Lex
So where are the graphs!?

Re: Project Lex
Alright so here's a rundown of the dyno.
To start from the beginning, I dyno'd a week ago. Got all the cruising type tuning done, car is running and starting great. But couldn't do any WOT tuning because of what turned out to be a bad coil. With the coil replaced, I returned to the dyno yesterday for the WOT tuning. You'll see the first run was at about 339hp. Shane did his thing, 2nd run we were already up nearly 50hp. A handful of more pulls and we stopped it at 406hp which far exceeded my expectations (I was thinking more like 360). This is on straight WG boost, no boost controller. You can see how soft boost comes on with this WG. I thought it was a 1bar spring but maybe it's more like a 10lb. Will have to look into swapping that out this winter. I can't thank Shane enough, I'm very happy with the entire experience (as always). One thing you'll notice is a random blip in the curve at around 3500rpm. It would occasionally miss at that spot very slightly. Not exactly sure why but not that worried about it either. So I've attached the 3 charts (HP vs. Boost vs. TQ vs. AFR). Creeps up to about 12psi at the end. Also attached is a little video. Thanks to Kerry for taking some good footage at the dyno, enjoy!! http://www.clublexus.com/forums/atta...1&d=1315424128 http://www.clublexus.com/forums/atta...1&d=1315424128 http://www.clublexus.com/forums/atta...1&d=1315424128 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRN1QyANeS8&hd=1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRN1QyANeS8 |
Re: Project Lex
Nice numbers! Thing must be fun on the street
|
Re: Project Lex
Awesome car and great job. You've put a few hours into this project eh? ;)
|
Re: Project Lex
nice work B-Man!
Check your logs for a trigger wheel sync error at 3500RPM.... might be causing the miss. |
Re: Project Lex
Thanks all. There is no sync error at that point, one of the first things we looked at. I was talking with my Megasquirt buddy down in FL, he tuned an SC300 yesterday with the exact same symptom. He said he messed with timing and was eventually able to get it to go away.

:pimp:
6 guests are checking this beast out!! |
Re: Project Lex
Ok, good... those errors can be pesky. I've been fighting sync issues with a 4age all last week (ms2) *pulling hair out*
Look forward to seeing her! |
Re: Project Lex
lol, if you read back like 15 pages, you'll see my sync error nightmare I went through as well :D Finally got it 99.9% gone using the filtering in TunerStudio.

Re: Project Lex
Sounds like a jet in the video! Can't wait to see this in person again.

Re: Project Lex
Woottastic! The exhaust is way too quiet though, needs moar roar!
|
Re: Project Lex
Lolz, funny you say that, because I was just thinking how it needs 1 more muffler :)
|
Re: Project Lex
Excellent results.

Re: Project Lex
Looks and sounds badd ass. Better get it out to the track.
