Looks like my premium (which covers both me and wife) is going up $10/month. Doesn't seem too bad.

Did your company say how much extra they're covering?

This. I doubt that was the true increase but hey, maybe certain people don't get screwed as much as others.

No they did not. I was just simply trying to share what I've found out so far, and that is all I know.

Is there any way to find out employer contribution before end of 2014 when you get your W2?

I see no reason to respond to this yet Until i know how much my rate will increase. IF it does at all. I have not had any indication that it will or wont. Sorry, i believe in a fact based arguement, not OMG THE SKY IS FALLING ALL HELL IS BREAKING LOOSE... then to find out it was much ado about nothing.

For you maybe. How do you explain all the people getting their plans cancelled? Obama even apologized for that happening

Being that i work for an insurance company i know there are multiple reasons for this both because of the ACA and having nothing to do with it:
I could write this out, but this person wrote an excellent article outlining the reasons. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...surance-plans/

the ACA simply gives rules to insurance companies about the standard of care they should provide.
Whats funny is that the company i work for deals with insurance in california currently, in our minneapolis office we have Insperity that sells UHG plans. I got a notice from UHG stating we may have to switch plans because the plan we are on may not be available after the first of the year. When i looked on insperitys website i found a reply to this mail, which stated "None of the plans sold by Insperity will change. Please disregard this mail" I.e. I dont need to do anything to qualify for ACA.
My plan should also not increase by much, if any.
The reasoning behind rate increases could vary greatly. From your employer deciding they dont want to contribute as much, to the plan previously costing less and now they need a plan that meets the requirements so the plan costs more. It also depends on Risk assessments done on your company by the underwriters of the insurance company. If you dont know what these are, the insurance company rates your company based on how often your employees go to the doctor, any ailments they have (such as MS, Cancer, Smokers, other diseases, pregnancies, kids with disabilities, husbands or wives with disabilities) then they rate the entire company based on this factor. Your company and your employees have as much to do with your rate increase as the ACA does. Insurance premiums have been going up for many years, its unwise and too easy to simply blame the ACA for this.

Re: March for health care!

Tom, that article you linked says, and I quote, "So why is this happening right now?

Some -- or maybe even most -- of the plans offered on the individual insurance market right now don't meet certain requirements in the health-care law. They may not offer preventive care without co-payment, for example, or leave out coverage of maternity care, one of the health-care law's 10 essential benefits.

"How many people are going to get cancellation notices?

It's hard to put an exact number on this, given that insurance plans are the ones who decide whether or not to continue offering an insurance product. Experts have estimated that somewhere between half and three-quarters of those who currently buy their own policies will not have the option to renew coverage, which works out to around 7 to 12 million people."

"What does this have to do with Obamacare?

Pretty much everything: Since the health-care law required insurance companies to change their plans, this is a direct result of the Affordable Care Act."

Re: March for health care!

But Tom wasn't affected, so why would he care ;)

It's funny that some people think money just comes for free (not saying tom thinks that, as I know he doesn't) and doesn't realize that everyone else just foots the bill...make us buy a bunch of bs that we didn't need and/or want.

I am confused how people are surprised that this is as bad as it is, did we think somehow we would magically all get "free" health care...

Re: March for health care!

"If you like your plan, you can keep it."

As flawed as a plan might have been, if it worked for someone, Obama said they could keep it. But people's plans were cancelled. Cancelled because their own plan didn't meet "the requirements", like cover pregnancy - for a single male only plan. Why would a single male need pregnancy coverage? I digress...

Now Obama said that he will allow health plans to be renewed for one more year. Regardless of the circumstance. Regardless of the plan.

At least he admits he made a mistake.

I'm really wanting to hear arguments that the health care companies are to blame for the cancellation of coverage. The last thing any insurance companies want to do is change a person's plan. It costs them time, which includes the most expensive portion, FTEs. If an insurance company can roll over someone's plan with no hand on it, that is the best way for them. It doesn't cost a dime.

And in a year, we'll be doing this all over again,........................

The Dems are only worried about the slaughter that could come in the 2014 mid term elections, that is the only reason for the delay, nothing more.

I agree that at least he admits his mistake, but delaying it 1 year is a pathetic attempt at making it right. He straight up lied through his teeth falsly representing this law to the entire nation, that has to be grounds for some sort of action.
