Re: My Winter Upgrades

How did they get at your car was asked earlier, I was wondering that too? Did you leave your garage door open? Or did they get in your house and go into the garage? That still sucks though, makes you feel violated; and yeah I agree it could have been alot worse if they were "car" thieves.

Re: My Winter Upgrades

Garage was open when my roommate went to work in the morning. Whether that be they found a way to open it, or somehow we left it open all night, we're not sure.

Good to look on the bright side. Be glad it's not a honda, or the whole damn car would be gone. Did that computer have any of your personal info or financial info on it? If so, you might consider talking to the bank or what have you.

You also might consider an alarm system that monitors the house and garage, or if you have one for the house, add some sensors to the garage. My folks' house has an alarm system and when a door or window isn't closed it doesn't arm, so you are always sure that it's closed up at night or when you are gone during the day.

Re: My Winter Upgrades

That sucks Brandon! Sorry to hear, but at least they didn't take the car(considering they had a key!). Speaking of that, you left a key for your car in your car?!?!

Halon 05-22-2009 10:31 AM

Re: My Winter Upgrades

I am really bad at losing keys. I misplace them all the time. So with the Talon, since it's always in the garage (garage is supposed to be closed), I leave the key in it so I don't misplace it. Crazy, maybe. But it's supposed to be what I consider pretty secure in the garage (again garage is supposed to be closed), and then my Daily is parked in the driveway in the spot behind it. So I consider it to typically be pretty secure as far as someone just starting it up and driving it away. I guess overall I'm a fairly trusting individual, maybe to a fault sometimes.

Anyhow, better believe that the keys aren't going to be left in that car anymore.

Why not get a key hook on the wall by the garage door inside the house.. Hard to lose keys when they are always hanging on a hook. :)

Yup that is the plan! Something I'm going to go shopping around for this weekend. But it'll be in the house, I'm not keeping it in the garage as that would be no better then leaving it in the Talon.

Well looks like I fouled out another set of plugs, it's missfiring again. I really need to get some sort of ignition amp soon.

On a good note, even with the occasional missfiring, I got my first bike kill today which gave me a big :D Not sure exactly what it was, but I think it was a Buell because it looked somewhat like a crotch rocket but not totally, and had a little deeper sound. That was the highlight of my night!!!

Nice. Im ready to see a 10 on sunday.

Re: My Winter Upgrades

Ha, we will see. But I'm still pretty new to it all, so who knows what I'll run.

Anyhow, the other day the car sounded a bit louder. So I popped the hood to have a look, and there's the turbo, crooked, hanging on by 1 bolt... I'm getting sick of these suckers backing out. In a couple weeks I'm going to take the head off to get it rechecked out by a better shop, and replace the headgasket. At that time, I'm going to drill the 4 bolts holding the turbo on, for safety wire, and that should hopefully be the end of that issue.

Also, just picked up a used (but never actually been used) Arc-2 ignition system off the Link forums for a pretty decent price. That'll probably go on around the same time I'm doing the head gasket. So hopefully that'll be the end of that issue.

Yeehaw :)

I got my new USB Link cable :)

Re: My Winter Upgrades

Well as seen in my other thread, she's down for a little bit due to a shifting error on my part. While this is going on, I will also be installing my new Arc-2 setup. I will also be installing the new lifters I got as well which will hopefully take care of some of the lifter tick I was experiencing.

One thing that I have been thinking long and hard about, is while all this is apart, possibly removing the AC. I've retained it thus far because I would like to have it. But the car has been running hot for the past couple years, so even though I have it, I've never used it. Even this year I haven't used it yet. I'm about 50/50 on the decision right now...

Kracka 06-04-2009 10:29 PM

Re: My Winter Upgrades

Removing it will eliminate a lot of clutter and weight from the engine bay. I regretted removing it on my 1G, but that was my daily-driver; as a 2nd car I'd be more inclined to shed the pounds.

Re: My Winter Upgrades

Assuming you don't drive you're car in the winter.. Just remove it. What else do we have windows for? :)

Halon 06-04-2009 11:08 PM

Re: My Winter Upgrades

I don't drive it in winter.

I think what I'm going to do is leave it in. And if for the rest of the summer, I get to use it and find the car still wants to run hot, then this winter I'm yanking it :)

Re: My Winter Upgrades

What fans are you running? because I was informed of a car that made around 558awhp with a/c and was having overheating issues then went to the setup I'm going to run and never had a problem since... I would look into it because I want to keep my a/c aswell thats why I went with it..

Re: My Winter Upgrades

I have a mishimoto radiator, with 2 10" fans, no shrouding. Not ideal, but it works decent. Hopefully better now that I found I had a blown headgasket also.

Re: My Winter Upgrades

Shitty man, keep at it. Apparantly the shroud works really well.

Check your block and head for flatness.

Re: My Winter Upgrades

Bump! wonder if you pulled the valve cover last night?

Halon 05-17-2010 01:20 PM

Re: My Winter Upgrades

Nah haven't yet. I actually left the dyno day and went home to switch cars and headed to Fargo for the rest of the weekend.

On the drive home though from the dyno day, when just cruising at highway speeds I could feel extra vibrations. If I got on the gas a little, it felt fine. So I'm not sure but something is wrong. That what I'm thinking it is as it's happened to me before, and I think we wound her up to around 8300rpm on that first pull. So who knows.

I will be doing a compression test tonight, and pull the valve cover. I just did a compression test last weekend so I have a really good baseline to compare against. My numbers last week were 155-155-155-150.

turbotalon1g 05-17-2010 02:01 PM

Re: My Winter Upgrades

I lost a lifter the car wouldn't make boost or rev past 4500rpm.

Halon 05-17-2010 06:36 PM

Re: My Winter Upgrades

Compression is 160 across all 4 cylinders. No rockers fell off.

Here's what I did find though.

First look:

Little closer look:

Shit deng!!!
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/P5200352.JPG

The seal on that injector wasn't sealed good against the head. On the last pull I noticed something shooting out from around there, so hmm.... that cylinder was probably running lean. The wierd metallic sound we heard, no idea yet what that was. Could it have caused a spun bearing maybe? I don't hear it free revving, never heard it during a pull, just on decel.

Step 1 is to acquire a new 1600 injector. Anyone have one? Even if I can just use one for testing purposes to see if the car runs decently with the injector fixed.

Re: My Winter Upgrades

That sucks.

Speedfreak 05-17-2010 06:49 PM

Re: My Winter Upgrades

On first look, looks like it went in hard the last time it was installed? Looks crushed physically. Were all th injectors on the rail last time you put them in? Then tightened the rail/them down into the head?

Halon 05-17-2010 06:51 PM

Re: My Winter Upgrades

yeah they were all on the rail, then I pushed them onto the head. You're right, that might have been what happened. Can't blame anyone but myself :(

A//// Guy 05-17-2010 08:01 PM

Re: My Winter Upgrades

Thats poop! Hopefully that fixes the main issue. At least compression is nice and normal across the board.

Halon 05-17-2010 09:10 PM

Re: My Winter Upgrades

Thanks for letting me borrow an injector Shane! I'm going to test it out and see how the car runs with this spare injector.

Also it appears the black plastic cap is the only thing that is damaged, so maybe I can just get a new cap from PTE or something.

craig 05-17-2010 09:25 PM

Re: My Winter Upgrades

Man that looks messed up,hope it fixes it.

Halon 05-17-2010 10:46 PM

Re: My Winter Upgrades

Well Shane's injector is installed, and the car is idling much better than before. I revved it up a bunch of times and don't hear any odd sounds. I'm going to drive her to work tomorrow and see if I notice anything.

And I'm going to try and aquire a new plastic cap for the injector. I think that's all I need.

turbotalon1g 05-18-2010 10:22 AM

Re: My Winter Upgrades

You man beast take it easy on those little injectors next time.
You should destroy that mustang when you are ready.

Halon 05-18-2010 06:23 PM

Re: My Winter Upgrades

Drove the car to and from work today. It's idling better than it has all year, go figure :) Still not a perfect idle, but that might be asking for too much with these sloppy injectors.

Did a couple 2nd and 3rd gear rippers, and it pulls like a (for lack of a better term) raped ape! It misses a little bit sometimes, but it's a tiny miss that seems to hardly affect a thing. I ordered up some OEM plug wires from Brookdale Mitsu. I'm going to see if those cure that.

Called up PTE and asked them about getting a new plastic tip. They are throwing one in an envelope and sending me one free of charge :) So should be here soon, and I can return this injector to Shane asap!

I'd still like to borrow some smaller injectors sometime though from someone. I want to see if the car idles better on smaller injectors, just to be completely sure that most of my idle issues are due to my injectors.
