Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
so the week leading up to the track i was fighting a boost leak issue with my intake manifold and egr leaking, after a long painful week I got them fixed for the most part.
I got my oil cap and catch can setup installed: https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._8769473_n.jpg It works fantastic and I'd recommend it to anyone, plus Hal is a great guy to work with. Track day was awesome, getting closer to making the car consistent and learned some things. Here is my best pass of the day and my fastest ET ever: https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...45885749_n.jpg This is slip is what I feel would of been my best run ever if I could of stayed in it: https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...85702372_n.jpg My CEL came on from the knock sensor and i had to get out of it, but I got back in it problem free and still ran a best ET 11.44@115. To be honest today I was ready to sell the car, it has quality parts on it and is setup well. Then I went and got gas ran into a 600 rocket and walked on it a bit, then on the way home from the parts store I ran into a gsx1000 and I got raped, it was pulling a wheelie past me. I posted on the link forums that I learned a lot about racing and my goals, I realized that all the guys running 10s on baby turbos weigh a lot less than me, to be honest they are tin cans usually in the 2600-27xxlbs range with driver. I know on slicks, I could do a 11.2, maybe an 11.1 on a good track, but without more power or a lot less weight I just don't know. Anyway, I'm just gonna throw some random parts I have laying around on the car, change my gauge layout and we will see how it does next year. Thanks to everyone who has helped make this possible and thanks to everyone that showed for the track day, its been a long time since a big group of DSMers have been to the track together and I don't know the last time there was more than 1 fast DSM there at the same time, it was a blast! |
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
So bigger turbo and spray?
|
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
You sound defeated man! 11.4 is pretty epic on such a basic setup IMHO, be happy! Plus you got to actually rip down the track at all...enjoy the times you've had and just keep having fun. :)

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
I can't remember, are you currently on a small 16g?

I pulled of an 11.2 with almost the same setup as you. There is more in it the way it sits, why not leave at higher boost? |

I actually missed it but my fastest pass was 11.42@120, I guess I do have more left in this. :woot: |
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
What needs to be done to hit 1.5's on the autobox?
Needless to say, get the 60' down and you'll be barking at 10's |
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Looked at the slips. That 11.2 was a 1.59 60'.
|
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Looks like some good times to me. When you raced it, did you leave it full street weight or take some crap off like exhaust, seats, etc?

I left everything in place, I'm not like the honda guys pulling everything out possible. Plus I like to run it as it is on the street so I know what it does for the most part. |
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Any videos of your passes?
|
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
NO I'm not cool enough for anyone to just give me a go-pro and I don't own a vid camera or camera person.
|
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
I think I took some with brads phone. I took a bunch vids with his phone. Ask brad

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
^Thanks man. I'd love to have any pics or vids anyone ever takes of my car.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
This was the only video I found on my phone. The gf might have gotten a couple too, I'll check with her tomorrow.

I don't care about the people who can't drive there setup's or wanted cars that were better at freeway pulls. I ordered a 9" electric fan for my trans cooler last week and it showed up today and I got an orange gear display. I'm also pretty sure that I'm going to get rid of my custom programmed/chipped TCU and do the kiggly mod also. |
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
You're gunna fry your clutches often driving on the street the way you like to if you kiggly mod.

Also strange because munchgsx and a ton of other people have had no issues and they have all driven a shit ton more miles than I have. |
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Sorry I should've said *could*. You know me n know I just started learning about autos. If Nick or Carl says differently, I might listen to them .
But I did come across this video a while back. I'll warn ya the guys camera skills suck. skip to 1:30 http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=plpp&v=86nkmt_CmPA |
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
I just need to find a ratchet shifter and make sure that they can downshift in the same manner they upshift then i will get it done.
|
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Now that I think about it, high power with low pressure allowing the clutches to slip too much might cause that guys problem. I'll PM Kiggly n see what he says.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Shift box?
|
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Yeah a shiftbox would be sweet. :)
|
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
I've never heard of the kiggly mod frieng clutches. High pressure shifts should be easer on the clutches but harder on everything else. if you can find the the plugs you could easiely wire up the kiggly mod to a extra set of plugds and swap back to TCU when not at the track.

I just looked up the shiftbox plus and it lets you program up shifts. Instead of guessing when to shift with the Kiggly mod. Because of the shift lag, I found it not as easy as you'd think to shift when you want. So with the shiftbox you could pinpoint exactly when the right time is. Even if it's several hundred rpms early. Additionally, you can wire it with a TCU for street driving. Really sounds like the best thing for street / strip cars. Carl, have you had problems with shifting early or late with the Kiggly mod? |
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
I have my automatic setup with my maft pro. As soon as I hit a set amount of boost (curently set at 8 psi), the maft pro triggers a relay. The relay moves the circuit over from the main pressure solenoid to a resistor. The resistor acts like a fake solenoid so the tcu does not go into limp mode. Now since the tcu is no longer controlling the main pressure solenoid, I have full main pressure on the clutches above the set amount of boost. This is also nice as it retains smooth shifting when just driving around town.
Originally I had this set up with my maft pro based on tps voltage. There has to be something out there that could trigger a relay based on a 5 volt reference. If there is, setting it up this way works quite well. |

Any chance I can get this shift box crap out of my thread, mods?

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Well I picked up an old Hurst Quarter stick ratchet shifter and I've got a line on some Corbeau seats.
I think that if I get those seats I'll probably take out the back seats since they are fixed back seats. Oh and I weighed the car at scrap place and it came in at 2980lbs, not sure how accurate it is, but I don't have a reason think it is off by a lot. |
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Quote:
Was the 2980 with or without you? my damn 2g (and driver) need to do on a diet so I can keep up with you. |
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
2980lbs without me
3140 with me All weights with about 1/2 tank of gas. |
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Sounds about right. Mine was 3200 with a full tank and me.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
So over a decade later its time to step up, T3 manifold babay!
South Florida Performance, going ol' skool especially for this price. https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...49303182_n.jpg https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...33431673_n.jpg The previous owner painted it with some crap, I think I'm gonna get it blasted and do it in some crappy black spray stuff for this year and next winter get it coated professionally maybe, unless I can find some good deal on ceramic coatings this winter, but I'm out of the loop on ceramic coatings. |
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Looks like it's cracked and been re-welded a few times.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Is that the one from Humes' car?
