Re: Project Lex
Ebay clutch ftl, haha. Nice on turnin the boost up!
|
Re: Project Lex
All I bought was a chinabay 6 puck disk, reused stock pressure plate. Just a cheapo setup because this tranny can't take too much power anyway. The clutch is already pretty close to its limit. It's a good thing really cuz it helps prevent me from running enough power to grenade the stock tranny.

Re: Project Lex
Well the wedding is over, and the new house is built. Still have a lot of crap on my plate but hopefully can start to tinker on the car a little bit now.
So since I've been stuck in North Carolina for the last week, I've had a lot of time to think about what I want to do next. What I've decided is I'm currently real happy with the way the car is running, and still fairly satisfied with it's current power level. So rather than spend a bunch of money to make it faster, I've decided I'm going to instead start working on its appearance. So I started looking at numerous pictures to basically find a setup I like and to try and copy. I want it to look nice, yet still keep it simple clean and well fitting, nothing over the top. So with that being said, here's what I've decided on. - OEM 97+ side skirts and rear bumper. - WISE front lip on my 92 front bumper. - Trunk lip spoiler - Paint Job (same color, or maybe 1 shade darker) Here's a pic of the car I'm basically copying. http://importzx.ho8.com/Images/sc300lip.1.jpg http://www.clublexus.com/gallery/dat...m/DSC01378.JPG http://www.clublexus.com/gallery/dat...m/DSC01663.JPG http://www.clublexus.com/gallery/dat...m/DSC01376.JPG Couple other cars with same lip and similar look I'm going for: http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...k%205spd/1.jpg http://racecomposites.com/images/sc.lip.2.jpg http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...3/IMG_0214.jpg http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...3/IMG_0217.jpg |
Re: Project Lex
This one look sharp, I approve!
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...k%205spd/1.jpg It could just be a better pic, but I think I like this one the best. |
Re: Project Lex
lol i didn't like that one, I liked the first car you linked too.
Gonna look so seksi!! |
Re: Project Lex
^ yes I like this car also. The rear spoiler is one of the things I like best and think it's better then the stock lip spoiler

Re: Project Lex
Hey im thinking about getting a n/a 2j to swap into the mustang. Just wanted to talk to you about your car and you megasquirt and if thaeres anything you would change. Pm me or let me know on here either way

Re: Project Lex
I'm not going to be the best one to talk about MS to, I struggled to get it going on this car and I still don't understand a lot of it. Tachyon on here probably knows much more than me.

Re: Project Lex

Got a set of FD rims for $150 that will be used for my drag setup. They are the lighter (non-reinforced) version which should make for a pretty nice poor man's drag setup. Apparently they weigh 13.8lbs each (15.2 if they were the reinforced). Will eventually get some slicks mounted on them. Thanks for the rims Nick (Cornfed2.4).
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1344903575 Here's a pic of Supra who used these for a poor man's drag setup. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g2...d/DSC_0092.jpg |

Small update.
Was bored last night so decided to install the 2nd 255hp. Everything appears to be working fine, and fits great. The Y that I bought, not really liking it because my hoses had to go all loopy just to ensure no kinks. So will probably rework it this winter. Also went over to Kerry's today to swap springs with him. Suspension is now stock Supra springs all around, with some new Bilstein shocks. It's known as an excellent poor mans suspension setup for an SC. Car sits a little higher than it used to now (had eibachs before), but about 1" lower than stock. Should be perfect once I get some side skirts and lips put on the bumpers. Also leaves room for some more rubber. Car feels like a "Lexus" now with this suspension, I'm loving it so far. The old shocks were trash. |
Re: Project Lex
Looks like you need tabs :) Thanks for stopping on by today.

Decided to clean up the front calipers.
Before, during. and after pics attached. Although I haven't applied the clear yet, will do that tomorrow. |
Re: Project Lex
Looking good!

Re: Project Lex
Sweet!

Re: Project Lex
Those calipers look awesome!

Re: Project Lex
Not that anyone is really following this anymore, but figured I'd throw some updates out there.
Car his been running phenomenally, with the exception of a caliper bolt backing out during the cruise (which comes down to my dumbass fault). It is officially parked for the winter and will be undergoing some changes. Other than coming out for some test drives here and there, I'm going to keep it garaged until I'm done with everything I want to do. I'm tired of driving it around half done. So here's the plans: - IS300 COP ignition (purchased) - Build a front facing TT style intake manifold (materials purchased) - SC400 3.26 rear diff (purchased) - LSD for rear diff - 350z 6spd manual trans swap kit (purchased) - 350z 6spd CD009 vintage transmission - 350z Clutch/flywheel setup that can hold some decent power - OEM 98 side skirts and basic lip kit for front and rear bumpers - Paint - Wheels - Bring to Shane with 600+hp aspirations! That's about it. This may take longer than just this winter to complete, but next time it's out and about it should be a different animal. |
Re: Project Lex
Heck yeah.

Re: Project Lex
Fukkin' right.

Re: Project Lex
This thing already sounds beastly at WOT when you flyby. Can't wait to hear it when it's done!
|
Re: Project Lex
More like seksi.
|
Re: Project Lex
Plan on doing a thicker head gasket or arp's for once you turn the boost up?
|
Re: Project Lex
Awesome! Can't wait to see it finished up.
|
Re: Project Lex
Damn it! I meant to get a ride in its current form.
Sounds like a great setup for next steps, can't wait! |
Re: Project Lex
Sounds like a sweet GT car in the making!
|
Re: Project Lex
Thanks all. As for HG, nope sticking with the stock GE gasket and stock 10:1 compression ratio. Going thicker HG puts the squish numbers outside the ideal band. I'd rather have higher compression and ideal squish vs. lower compression and not ideal squish (see my thread from a month ago for more details on that). I have the dog point MAP Ultimate Duty head studs already.

Re: Project Lex
06+ 350 transmissions are supposedly better than the early one.
|
Re: Project Lex
You still gonna get a lift? I bet it would make your swap a ton easier...
|
Re: Project Lex
Yup the CD009 (06+) version are the ones that are supposed to be badass. Hoping to find a used one in the $600 range. Otherwise a brand new one is only like $1600.
Lift, yeah I still really want one. Just not sure exactly when that will happen. And still not 100% sure which lift I want to get. |
Re: Project Lex
Good plan B-man!

Re: Project Lex
Managed to squeeze in about 2hrs of work on her yesterday. Result is the rear subframe sitting on the floor :)

Little bit more done today. Got all connections/etc. disconnected so the rear subframe is completely out. Driveshaft removed. Mid portion of exhaust removed. Rear ABS sensor wiring removed (For good). Muffler heat shields removed. Just lots of little misc crap removed basically.
With the underside fairly exposed at this point, I was actually pleasantly surprised by how little rust there was considering this thing has over 160k miles. Mainly just in spots where the rusty fasteners were, are little spots of rust. However I was inspired by this project: http://i747.photobucket.com/albums/x...g?t=1311369242 I don't have the skills or patience to go to that level, but still, makes me want to get the underside of the car looking nice too. So I will be trying to take my time and replace anything rusty (fasteners, clamps, lines, etc). Coat things like control arms, subframe, diff, etc so they look like new again. Replacing bushings with poly ones where it matters, and probably just OEM in some spots to keep it feeling like a Lexus. And may consider sanding and putting some sort of undercarriage coating, but not sure yet if I'll take it to that level. Here's how I left it tonight, as well as some shots of the underside of the car showing the small areas of rust around fasteners. http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1352430387 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1352430387 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1352430387 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1352430387 |
Re: Project Lex
looking good. I thought the first pic was your car when I first scrowled down. I really want to pull my rear subframe undercoat the car and powdercoat the old parts I may use this as inspiration.
|
Re: Project Lex
If you have some pointers on undercoating, lemme know! I'd love to just do a black undercoating or something. I just have no idea what kind of prep is involved, what kind of product to use, etc.
|
Re: Project Lex
Where is the lift!!!?
Where is your car from, the rust doesn't seem terrible for a 93. |
