Your wastegate(s) will provide the extra flow when the turbine runs out. I forsee no problems.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

Didnt Shep or Rau run the y2ks a couple years back? I remember those used to be the rage back in the day. I still say go Turbonetics Thumper or go home!

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

Turbo is reinstalled as of yesterday on the car, and runs. They still used a 270 deg. thrust bearing, and he insists it will still work. I have lost all faith in this company, nad really don't know what to do anymore. as of now, car is in shane's hands. I guess if it blows, it blows. I'm already counting myself out over a grand. If it blows, the car WILL be done for this year.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

That's lame, sorry to hear :(

Just more incentive to go with a legit retailer next time around though. Sometimes paying the extra few bucks is well worth every penny plus some.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

Take the turbo off and sell it now that it is in working order and get something better and something that you know will work and work well.

Yeah, do this.

Swifty1638 06-06-2010 05:49 PM

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

^That was the goal, but as of right now, car is at DB for shane to attempt to work his magic. it SHOULD work had the correct bearing kit been used. I MIGHT try and get it fixed but I dunno right now. I also wanted it done, as I planned on racing at BIR this month.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

Hey what did you pay for this turbo by chance?

Swifty1638 06-06-2010 06:13 PM

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

800, but then the cost of fixing it and welding shit and such has upped it to a grand, and now, who knows. expensive fucking hobby, that's for sure. And it's a costly mistake I don't plan on ever making again.

URV8SUX 06-06-2010 06:15 PM

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

Hmm I had a T4 .68 GTQ70 with a 4294 compressor wheel I could have sold you for less.

Swifty1638 06-06-2010 06:17 PM

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

now im regretting going this route at all. 6765 would have been a smarter choice, and to this day i am kicking myself quite hard for making such a stupid mistake.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

Shit will get better! I say give it one more try on the dyno!

turbotalon1g 06-06-2010 07:28 PM

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

I say give it try and maybe don't run it to the point where it will blow so you can sell it to one of those people back on teh east coast where this shit is hot yo.

But you are right this is an expensive hobby, especially if you don't want to listen to people that know.

I hope it works, I think find the line where this turbo wants to blow and turn it down then at least you can drive it the rest of teh year that is left.

Swifty1638 06-06-2010 09:06 PM

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

That line is like..14 psi..if even. No fucking way will I drive this car and waste it's potential with a shitty ass 14 psi..no offense to anyone else, but this car is NOT FUN AT ALL on low boost.

4g63tcrazy 06-06-2010 09:34 PM

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

Yeah I bet.. You wait for a good 4k before it spools and then when it does it's only 14psi. I never understood why people put big laggy turbo's on cars and run them at low boost.

Swifty1638 06-06-2010 09:35 PM

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

Me either. The turbo doesn't even wake up till 35.

I had no clue. :wedgie:

I was thinking mid to high 20s or something.

Fuck that call them back and get your money or tear up the net with negative reviews if they don't want to help you out.
If they won't do a refund then maybe a trade for another turbo.

If 14psi is the line, don't even install it.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

I can't, in good conscience try to sell it to anyone I know, or most anyone else. I guess as of now, we will see. I'm calling to TEAR them a new one, and threaten a report to the BBB.

Do it. What company did you buy this thing from anyways?

Swifty1638 06-06-2010 10:21 PM

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

miketurboinc. They built it, and I got it from a speed shop in NY since the guy had it ordered for a customer whom never paid for his build, so the guy had to sell off all the parts. I figured it was a legit enough company to sponsor the NSCRA why not buy from them..I guess not.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

Buy new from the manufacture or go home! I learned the hard way on turbos before as well. Hope its running soon.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

Tuning is up to Shane. I called diesel components, and Garret. I guess they come with a 270 thrust bearing and both places agree that there's no reason they shouldn't work. I hope it was just an assembly mistake the first time around and not this time. Only time will tell.

viridionplague 06-07-2010 08:38 PM

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

either way its still pretty shitty, they said they would send you out a 360 thrust bearing and didnt....

We heard your turbo blew once again. Is this not true?

By who? Who said what? Cuz last I checked I was not informed of anything going on with MY car, an I'd be fucking PISSED if everyoe else knew before me.

So did this thing ever get back on the dyno and stay together?

Swifty1638 06-12-2010 06:45 PM

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

This thing has had issues since then..coolant line blew, drain plug on the t-case fell out (NO idea why, as I haven't touched it in over a year) and now it's not making power it should. Found a MASSIVE boost leak at the comp cover to the lower ic pipe though which should help a ton, as well as another leak at the coupler going into the fmic on driver's side. Fixed all of these, and now it rests once again in shane's hands, and on his time. I'm getting really eager though to drive it again..this ponti POS isn't cutting it.

Sucks man, I have been driving my supra. And the blue supra is back together now also. I want to see what this thing will do on a good day.
