Because I like cheap and reliable transportation.

Re: Why do you own a DSM?

I got into it because it was a nice car and quite fast (for the time). Now I know too much about them to get rid of it and have to learn everything over again. My DSM is more of a toy for me now. I also don't like doing the main stream thing, otherwise I would have a TT Mustang or camaro. I have a 01 Lincoln LS for a daily driver.

I have mine becaue I am stupid also. I wanted to go fast and didn't realize trying to go fast won't have you going anywhere at all except for the bank. I might be getting out soon as we are getting a house and I don't have time, but I would need to get rid of a lot of stuff.

Reliable is the last word ever to be put in on or near the word DSM

Malfunction

That is what it means to me

I think he got this import cars confused with Honda. He should be shot for using reliable and DSM in the same sentence. Just Joking.

I don't own one anymore.
I keep getting them because they don't leave me alone, and I feel bad for all the beat-up ones I come across.

Re: Why do you own a DSM?

I have a good friend that was very into DSM's so I knew if you wanted to TRY to go fast with them they will always sit on jack stands. Once you get out of the 12's it seems like they break on a daily basis.
I actually bought my first DSM when my woman needed a temporary car. When I got transfered to MN I sold the FWD DSM and swapped the engine/trans into an AWD DSM. This winter turned out to be pretty weak so I'm just about ready to sell it and buy a nice daily driver. I can't make up my mind. I've been leaning towards a high mileage Z06, '03+ Cobra or something similar. Decisions, decisions.

DSMs are just as reliable as any other car.

Think about it, if you beat the PISS out of a Honda, it would break. You mod a car, it will break. Plan and simple.

Re: Why do you own a DSM?

My GVR4 really isnt a DSM

It gets me to college every day, through snow, wind, rain, bad drivers, zombies.....etc

None of my DSMs ever left me on the side of the road, the had the decency to break as soon as I got to whereever I was going, which is ALOT more then I could say about my old lumina, or my camry for that matter.

And in all reality, the only parts that ever broke were ones far beyond needing to be replaced
"oh, that clicky axle can do another 5,000 miles before it needs to be replaced"
"oh that old looking coolant hose will hold up just fine"
"brakes? what brakes?"

seriously, even when i broke the tranny, it still shifted in to most of the gears, and it still got me around.

The ecu caps issue is the only one that I could really say mitsu really screwed up on

Nope.
I tried to keep mine stock, really. But first the turbo went, then the motor, then the alternator, then the throw out bearing sepperated, then 2nd gear went to hell. By this time I had replaced all of those parts with upgraded parts, neccesitating further mods such as injectors, fuel management, intercooler, ACT 2600, etc. Those upgrades also neccesitated further repairs. Clutch hydrolic system went to hell, more boost blew the head gasket, pressurized cooling system blew coolant and heater hoses.
This massive and tragic downward spiral all started with inherant flaws in the quality of the car that I started with. For 4 years I dumped enough money into it to have bought something REALLY nice. Now I sold it and consequently have something really nice. The end.

I own a DSM because the 90% of its life as a lawn decoration is awesome and when I actually get to drive it...its great!

Re: Why do you own a DSM?

Because I was sick of owning slow cars. I owned a 1983 vw gti, a mazda mx-6 and drove an integra for a short period of time. I really wanted to build a turbo'd vr6 corrodo, but I couldn't find a decent shell to start building. I need a car, and it was almost winter. My buddy Jay owned Matt Jannush's old GSX at the time, and convinced me that picking up an AWD car for the winter would be a good idea.

I've DD'd my DSM's always, it's a good reason to get shit done quickly. I've had two now, and both have had 20g's on them. What can I say, I like awd and 300whp cars that I can afford!

Re: Why do you own a DSM?

I just didnt want to buy a Honda or an Eclipse GS and I wanted something that could make power without anything done to the motor. I was right on the edge of just buying that GS and not doing anything to it, then the GS turned out to be crap and the next couple of days I found my DSM and got that right away. I kinda of regret it. Only because I've spent way more money on repairs than on the car itself plus the parts. And it's a lot of fun when it's not broken. I just want to break into the 12's and leave it at that for a couple years, since it's my only car and I drive a lot! :D.

They are cheap and fun, and most of them look nice. Course my non-DSM-DSM looked nice but thats besides the point ;)
