Example: if you are in an accident with another car, it does not matter that you crashed the car. It is the company's insurance policy that picks up the damages, not yours. This same concept can be applied to your instance. |
Re: Speeding Cameras
Interesting. Too bad that was a year and a half ago and by paying the ticket myself I legally consented. I wonder if that court deal ever went through and those were proclaimed unconstitutional. I bet if they were, I'd get my 142 bucks back now! :)

Re: Speeding Cameras
If you want to make the roads safer start with banning cell phones and make it harder to get a license. Fuck these cameras. They're 100% motivated by money not safety.

Re: Speeding Cameras
I don't like how the gov't is making steps to control our lives for the idea of "SAFETY".
In truth, this is basically similar to the alcohol prohibition. Seat belt saves lives, no seat belt, get a fine. Bush tapping phones. And other stupid laws. |

Re: Speeding Cameras
Wait... aren't the red light cameras off because of the whole fact that they can't prove who's driving the vehicle? I thought it was a local state law that prevented camera's like this. I haven't heard about this in a while maybe the changed the law by now, regardless I would like to know.

We have the worst most ass backwards setup ever conceived for usage of public roadways. It's really pathetic. Speed does NOT cause accidents, it causes more severe injuries when accidents occur. What causes accidents? Shitty drivers. SO what can we do about shitty drivers? Lets start with a *little* more education. Who here honestly remembers jack shit from their drivers ed. class? Most drivers do not understand the simplest of driving tasks. How to work a 4 way stop, how to use the left lane to pass and keep right at all other times, how to yield to a vehicle that has the right of way, how to signal a turn, etc. Distractions need to be kept to a minimum. I routinely drive 10-15mph over on the highway, but I do so safely because I am conscientious and pay attention to what the hell I'm doing. I can go miles with the radio turned up and not be able to tell you what song was just playing because I was paying attention to the road. I cant and wont drive while on the phone. Look at countries like Germany. They have their shit sorted out. Freeways that are built to handle traffic at 100+mph. Cars that are built for such conditions and inspected for safety (especially brakes). A drivers license is much more expensive than it is here and much more difficult to obtain. And a DWI isnt a slap on the wrist and a small fee. In Germany, a country in which everyone drinks beer (it's even served at colleges and drank on lunch breaks from work), the blood alcohol limit for operating a motor vehicle is 0.00 and punishable by revocation of your drivers license for several years. I take driving seriously, if I didnt I would take the fuckin bus. And BS like this in the name of "safety" really ticks me off. I know tons of people that dislike driving, and because of this they find other things to do while driving, like being on the phone or doing their makeup or whatever. People like this should be offered an alternative to driving to keep them off the roads. Speed enforcement is not only attempting to correct the wrong problem, it's trying to correct that problem the wrong way. I dont need a sign and a camera to tell me what a safe speed is on a given road; thanks, but I can think for myself. |
Re: Speeding Cameras
Jesus CVD..... well put. I agree with it 100%, for instance I hate people who don't know how to merge onto highways. If an accident occurs it's not because they're speeding it's because they're doing 35-40MPH at the end of the on ramp and I'm at risk because I'm stuck behind them trying to figure out how I'm going to merge without getting rear ended because the other drivers aren't paying attention to what's coming off the on ramp.
There's plenty of cases like that I observe every day. I try to be the most observant driver, even when listening to music. I always know who is behind me, who's in front of me and if someone is in my blind spot. A lot comes too from profiling vehicles and keeping them in the back of your mind incase there’s a sporadic driver which has saved my ass many times. I just think people don't take driving nearly as seriously as they should and in some ways aren't as aggressive as they should be (ie. doing 40MPH at the end of an on ramp or slamming on their brakes at a very early yellow light) as weird as that sounds. |
Re: Speeding Cameras
Agreed. Merging is probably one of the top 3 problems with drivers here. I would say that the other two are situational awareness and lane discipline. Unfortunately NONE of those items are on the drivers test nor are they even taught most of the time.
I was on Facebook the other day and was absolutely horrified to notice there was a new group called "If I had to retake my drivers license test I'm not sure I would pass." The test should be much more difficult, and it should need to be retaken every 4 years, along with an eye exam. |
