The battery is easy, just weld a small box to the frame rail down there and make brackets to hold it in. Just be sure to scrape the rustproofing off the rail before you weld or it will catch on fire, ask me how I know.

lol interesting story?

before you weld anything you should always clean and prep the area otherwise you will get porosity in your welds and they will be shit

Thanks again guys. If you look at my how to thread on the battery the tie down I made was all kinds of ghetto. The way I have it now is a little better than what I had then and it did pass inspection at the track. I'm gonna come up with something even better tonight and I'll post pics.

Here is what I'm planning on doing although there is a hole in the metal tray that I will use instead of drilling one in the cross member.

Lol yeah I tried taking that off before but the girlfriend always yells at me for it.. Brando, it's the same kind of piping I just re-did it all and painted it with truck bed coating. I still need to do the TB elbow, TB and intake mani.
Anyway I got my battery tie down made. I made an extra bracket for eagle talon guy also. Here is the link to thread once again: http://www.dsmtalk.com/forums/showth...ngine+bay+tuck
It's on the second page, just ignore my first ghetto rigged tie down.

How does that exhaust work for ya? Does it drag on anything? Do you have limiting straps on the axle to keep it from drooping too much and hitting the exhaust?

4g63tcrazy 08-03-2008 01:56 PM

Re: 4g63tcrazy's ride!

The exhaust works great. No I don't have any limiting straps. The only time the axle hits the exhaust is when you lift the rear of the car. When you do that it just rest's on the exhaust and the hangers stretch but they hold fine. I've never had a problem with the exhaust scrapping the ground or contacting the axle while driving.

Thanks. I need a full exhaust on my Laser that's quieter but don't don't want to spend the money on the extra bends and making it a two piece design.

Re: 4g63tcrazy's ride!

Yeah I'd say go for it. Going under the axle isn't as big of a deal as people make it to be on the FWD's. Although if I could give you some advice I would say to make a flange right before the axle so you can drop that rear section when you wanna lift the car. It would just make things easier.

I saw his car today when I met up with him to get the bracket he made me.
It's a very nice car! and i noticed he did quite a few custom parts, and I like that! ;)

The bracket and write up he made works pretty good. I dropped my battery tonight and used his bracket.

That bracket looks really close to the positive terminal, I would want something in between them...
On my 2g I was able to use all stock parts to drop the battery like that. There is a nice screw hole where the battery tray originally was, and I use the stock tie down and j bolt, just about 8-10 inches lower. All I had to do was bend the stock tie down a bit to line up better. All the stock ground wires even reached (barely).

Yeah, I used the wrong hole to mount this. I have to redo that and re-situate the tray and it will sit on the other side of those caps.
