Only time will tell. 1g's may hold more value simply because 2g's have the strut tower issue and will most likely all be junk in 20-25 years. Then again, I guess a rust free 2G will probably be really rare........ |
Re: Will DSMs Ever Be Valuable?
2Gs are for girls.

I hope none of you are thinking about this as an investment. You will spend more money maintaining it in the next 20 years than you will make even if they go up in value. I would also argue that dsms aren't the "muscle cars" of today. Not many cars will ever go up in value. I have experienced it but that was just a timing issue. My honda insight is worth a couple grand more than when I purchassed it over two years ago. Obviously the increase in gas prices caused this but I don't think that there will be a big following for DSMs in the distant future. There isn't enough demand right now to justify it in my head. |

Re: Will DSMs Ever Be Valuable?
I'm not suggesting they will be worth like $20,000+, I just mean more valuable than the piddly $1-5K they got for now, depending on condition.

Like Momin, I also have a rust-free, salt free 1G. Non-rusty 1G's I think WILL be hard to find eventually. Lots of them are trashy, and the clean ones will be hard to find eventually. As long as I own mine, it will never see winter/salt.

I agree. Something with a larger than 4cy engine. I just don't see the demand right now to justify a comeback in the future. If they were more polular/special, maybe I could see it. Nothing against dsms, I just don't see it happening. Those of you who think they will be worth more, how much do you think? |
Re: Will DSMs Ever Be Valuable?
One key thing that needs to be mentioned is the reason why some people get into DSM's in the first place. I bought my first AWD Talon when I lived in Duluth and couldn't get anywhere on those hills on the winter; I didn't want a truck so I bought the next best thing.
It was all downhill after that; but when I bought my first DSM a 16G was considered a huge upgrade. Nowadays the turbos of choice shit out 16G's. With that being said the valuable DSM's will probably be the 1G's like Mo's or Brandon's that have never seen snow and aren't all dented up. |

Ok,
Mustang, Corvette, Viper, Camaro, Caprice, Impalla, Trans Am, LTD, etc. |
Re: Will DSMs Ever Be Valuable?
Fair enough. No imports in that list? It was the 90's. Kind of a big shift in sport/fun cars.
I guess they wouldn't have too much value but I am sure they will be sought out. I'm only 31 and I feel the urge to find cars I used to own. |

My view may be off by the fact that I come from a Camaro family, but my father is also a goodmark/dynaocorn/sherman body parts dealer, so I have a gerernal idea of what is in demand right now. |

As far as demand goes, I look at the for sale threads and the prices. If the car was in demand, you couldn't find one for $1500. The price also justifies that it is not that special. A supra on the other hand.... Imagine how many miles would be on the turbos if the cars lasted that long... I just don't see it. Time will tell. |

same example, a 17 year old kid owned a camaro back in the day, but damn he loved vette's. now that hes older and has a good paycheck he can decide between his highschool (sentimental value) car, or the one he allways coveted. |
