The liabilities behind making these and machining someones knuckle could be huge. I am no engineer so who knows what could happen though I am sure mine will be fine. For me to make up for the time it takes to make this kit and for the parts (front/rear calipers/rotors/lines/brackets) I figure this kit would cost $2000-$2500 and at that rate there are better kits out there for less money. |
Re: Brembo stopperz
You had to machine the knuckle? What was machined?

I guess with track time they could be exposed to significant heat, but dust boots/pistons seals dont melt. The wheel/wheel bearing also absorbs heat. We will see, I think they will be fine but if they are not, I will make a set out of aluminum. |

You can see it here, the shiny metal on the caliper mounting tabs, stock brakes bolt onto the other side. The back side that you see here normally has steel casting flash around the bolt hole. I had to machine them flat so the aluminum bracket could bolt up on this side instead because the rotor has so much offset to get the caliper away from the wheel spokes. |
Re: Brembo stopperz
Oooooo, I see. I didn't realize that bolt on from the other side.
Is there a reason you didn't put the head of the bolt on the aluminum side of the brackets? |
Re: Brembo stopperz
Yeah, personally, I would have kept the brakes painted how they were/left the viper sticker on. Looks unique that way.

Re: Brembo stopperz
Maybe this is a stupid question but, won't the rotor move a little bit since the wheel studs are smaller than the holes? Eventually won't all that banging around cause issues?
|
Re: Brembo stopperz
Brake rotors always have play and are able to move around until the wheel is torqued on.

Wow this looks awesome, nice project!

Re: Brembo stopperz
Got the calipers wet sanded and buffed with the decals on. Kinda thinking maybe I should switch to red decals like the STi's have. Idk, I can always peel them off and switch them later.

I like the gold/black combo

They look really good!

Re: Brembo stopperz
Awesome, looks very nice. Makes me want to repaint my Fadedbros.

Re: Brembo stopperz
Looks great. I was planning on doing a custom BBK on mine, then lost interest. Having a bridgeport has got to be nice, aluminum is a real pain to work with.
