Re: Destroker kit, want to know all!
Ha.
I also agree with taking shifting into consideration. Having a high revving motor might seem cool, but being able to shift at that high of an RPM will be something you'll have to take into consideration. That's one thing that attracts me to strokers. Oh well if I can't rev as high, I make up for it in bottom end torque, and don't have to worry about high RPM shifting. |
Re: Destroker kit, want to know all!
^my thoughts exactly if you setup isn't gonna make power to 9k+ why hold a motor to do it? ESP for a street car.
Have u heard about using stroker pistons in reg 2.0 to get better rod ratio because of the relocated pin height? |
Re: Destroker kit, want to know all!
You'd have to use correspondingly longer rods as well.

Re: Destroker kit, want to know all!
So, any weirdness with install that anyone would know since its a 4G64 block? Didn't the 2.4 guys have to re-mark their cam gears and use a different tbelt or something?
|
Re: Destroker kit, want to know all!
Timing belt and cam gears from 1995 DOHC Galant I believe, might be 1994, but again this applies to the 6 bolt stuff only. However, you can use the 4g63 belt and cam gears if you degree them ;)

Re: Destroker kit, want to know all!
I just happen to know a certain someone with a set of those DOHC cam gears laying around.

Re: Destroker kit, want to know all!
Where can one find these off the shelf custom rods?
|
Re: Destroker kit, want to know all!
As of right now you can't find 6 bolt anywhere as they are no longer mass produced by anyone that I am aware of. 7 Bolt rods are still being made in the 156mm length by Manley, and you can find them from this guy ;)

Re: Destroker kit, want to know all!
So what t-belt do you need to use for the evo application? And what cam gears, those same 2.4 ones?
|
Re: Destroker kit, want to know all!
Magnus has the parts and can build you one of these motors as well. It was something I was looking into for a little bit, but a cheap set of eagles and off the shelf pistions seemed like a lot cheaper and easier option. They do sound and seem pretty bad ass though.

Re: Destroker kit, want to know all!
The Magnus route is a tad bit expensive.

It would be sweet in a light wieght, high revving, auto'd FWD though |
Re: Destroker kit, want to know all!
That's what bothers me as it really shouldn't be, there is no additional machining and the only "custom" piece is the connecting rods. Like I said we will have 156mm length rods in the near future and they will be very cost effective ;)

Re: Destroker kit, want to know all!
^ Let us know when.
It would then come down to a 63 7-bolt or 64 6-bolt 2.2l build, for myself anyways. |
Re: Destroker kit, want to know all!
I was also considering this when I built my 2.4. At the time I did not have a tranny that could shift that high so I scrapped that idea. Still would like to do one some day.
Cost would be about the same as a built 2.0. The only additional cost for most people would be a 2.4 block. Just find a friend that wants to do a 2.3l and then buy a 2.0 motor and a 2.4. swap cranks and you have a 2.1 and a 2.3 |
Re: Destroker kit, want to know all!
2235cc is what I'd be shooting for... 94mm eagle crank with either 156rods / -3 pistons or 159rods / -6 pistons in a 64. This will be my fall (winter) build.
