http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._7953531_n.jpg Getting there. Need to do some minor wiring, add the front bumper and airdam. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._5284358_n.jpg |
Re: Rebuilding the 87 Conquest TSI
Started the car and turned it around......Still needs some tlc.....
Installed the gas tank, changed the fill tube to tank rubber hose and added a anti-roll over vent. Anti-roll over vent has to be installed to vent the tank when you remove the charcol canister. Gas tank caps only allow to vent "IN" not "Out", the valve will go both ways but will close when liquid or alot of pressure hits it. The top left hose is the vent line, it wraps around and that little white ring near the zip tie is a fuel filter. Then it goes to up and sits above the gas tank lid, see next picture. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._7048651_n.jpg Because I didn't want excessive fumes building up in the fender I added another hose which takes all the fumes and liquid if any to the ground behind the rear tire. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._5840114_n.jpg |
Re: Rebuilding the 87 Conquest TSI
Need to add 2 bolts per side on the airdam and wire the horns.

Re: Rebuilding the 87 Conquest TSI
Since it has been on the road the following has been done, with-in a month lol...
Gr-2 Rear Shocks Suspension Tech Lowering Springs Painted The Valve Cover Yellow Accel Coil KDM Turbo Discharge Pipe Rotella T6 Wix Filter Red Top Optima Battery 105/110 Amp GM Alternator Alternator Bracket Two Alternator Charging Wires Fog Light Mod Update from yesterday! Hit 5,000 rpms the other day and noticed a pop in the car. There was a ton of vibration but no knocking noise. Thought a jet valve got stuck open. Pulled the valve cover and check everything. All up top seemed good. Checked the flywheel to see if it came loose, but that was also tight. Today I pulled the oil pan out and noticed a balance shaft bearing has walked out of where it's suppose to be. Since the shaft was rubbing the bearing it flared out the bearing. See the picture. Its not suppose to be out that far, its suppose to be flush. So now I will be ordering everything to get rid the the shafts altogether. Each way roughly 15lbs, so 30lbs off the rotating mass is like having a 1 ounce flywheel lol... Plus the oil pressure will go up once there gone. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._3151714_n.jpg 6 piece Balance Shaft Elimination, Jet Valve Elimination, Valve Cover Gasket, Oil Pump Gasket, Timing Cover Gasket Kit, Oil Pump O-Ring and Oil Pan Gasket = 110 bux shipped. |
Re: Rebuilding the 87 Conquest TSI
Yep, Balance shafts make the motor nice and smooth, but things like that can happen.

Re: Rebuilding the 87 Conquest TSI
Pulled it all apart today. Just need to clean up some parts and wait for the parts from "Dad" vendor on SQC to come in the mail. I'm removing the yellow paint from the valve cover.
Paint will be Intercooler pipes "Wrinkle Red" Valve and timing cover "Wrinkle Black" Other parts and brackets normal gloss black. |
Re: Rebuilding the 87 Conquest TSI
Its been on the road for 2 weeks. Wrinkle black the valve cover and timing cover.
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...9_720951_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._4303359_n.jpg I have Eibach Pro springs coming and rear d2 fixed strut tops also coming in the same box. |
Re: Rebuilding the 87 Conquest TSI
Added some parts to it, including these rare hard to find death mounts. Stedebani only made a few on the first run and then stopped making them due to everyone complaining they were too stiff. They are rated at 95A durometer.

The above mounts were making the radio controls vibrate "noise" on the factory wheel. http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._6642978_n.jpg Eibachs in the rear and Suspension Tech lowering springs on the front. Also just painted it flat black yesterday lol. http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._3838469_n.jpg http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._6260132_n.jpg 240Z bolt on master cylinder reservoirs got rid of the single corner mounted one. http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._7917832_n.jpg Will update the first post shortly with a mod list! |

Re: Rebuilding the 87 Conquest TSI
FYI, the '88-89 Starquests have a different steering wheel with radio controls on it. (read no fake chrome/peeling or noise)

Re: Rebuilding the 87 Conquest TSI
I like the way it looks with the flat black paint. Love those motor mounts too...lol

Re: Rebuilding the 87 Conquest TSI
