Re: Project Black ValentNine
The Evo IX turbo isnt a bad choice either. Especially with a stroker ;)
Is it weird I'm as excited to see what Scheides does with this as I am my own car? lol |
Re: Project Black ValentNine
I have a Manley forged crank in my other block if your block is ok, its the 88mm stroke

Re: Project Black ValentNine
Nice valentine day story. Welcome to the 2 evo club. Sounds like a fun project, 2.3l - ef3 - e85? Will this replace the VW wagon/truck?

Re: Project Black ValentNine
Nice to see you back in an older Evo Scheides!

Re: Project Black ValentNine
With all that said, I have some amazing news! Just heard--the block is salvageable! Wahoo! I have been shopping everywhere from a stock longblock to a 2.3L long-rod I-beam stroker setup. In the end, KISS wins. I MUST keep the budget tight on this build and I don't have any plans for a massive turbo setup, just a good fun evo. SOOOOOOO, I woulda-coulda-shoulda done a 6266/2.3L/big cams etc and I woulda-coulda-shoulda done a stock longblock (but couldn't find one) so here's what I decided to do for this build. YES its a little mish-mash of stuff but overall I'm following an award-winning recipe that I've seen kick my ass all over BIR the last 3 years, plus a little of my own ideas:
Original block will be line-bored and fully machined I found an OEM 88mm crank locally Molner H-beam rods (good stuff--google them!) Wiseco HD pistons 9:1 Stock IX head w/ stock valves (cleaned, machined as necessary) GSC 5039 valvesprings Stock IX cams Stock IX turbo That's the motor build. I have a few other monkey wrenches to deal with next, I'll update on those when the motor is done. :) Also, I read back through my posts and I guess I never came out and said this...Rosey had the car at RS motors; Ron is who diagnosed the crankwalk. He had the damn thing half apart and with the state of my garage and the weather, I asked him to finish the job. Ron has been an amazing help and as lofty as my goals are of putting this thing back together and fixing it with my own hands, chances are it'll stay there and keep being put together by Ron & co...I WANT to be the one to fix it but I just don't have the time :( Still, it will get plenty of fun time once its back together, so its not so sad! Plus Ron is kinda an ok guy ;) |
Re: Project Black ValentNine
Woo. Good that the block is still good to use

Re: Project Black ValentNine
Jealous!
Glad to see someone on the boards pick this up. I was trying to talk knoxville into buying it. If I had money I would've bought it too. Congrats and can't wait to see you cruising around in this. PS. You need a bigger garage. |
Re: Project Black ValentNine
oh yeah!
so is this gonna be a baller daily or STS race car? |

Re: Project Black ValentNine
Just have Ron copy his IX RS recipe for 10's and you'll be set!
