Well I just learned this but as part of buying a new used car you have insurance for the first 30 days you have it but you should get your insurance to cover it soon for :bs: reason like sway got pulled over for.
Thats all hunky dorry, it still doesn't mean jack. I had my license taken away in June because of that "law" that I believed that they didn't. I had proof and all that shit. I was supposed to lose my license for 30 days. I STILL DONT HAVE IT BACK! You see to get your license back after such an occurence requires you to:

Take the written test again ($18.50) DID THAT

Apply for a new license and take a new picture ($21.50). DID THAT

Send in proof of insurance on a vehicle you own. ($5000) not really worth it.

So basically I have the choice of not driving. I could pay the $5000 which is what I have left to pay on my 2G. Then I could pay for liability only insurance which still screws me. All in all, be very careful, and never do a plea bargain where it will put a No Proof on your record.

I'm not sure, but it would be logical that the 30 day rule only applies if you have insurance on a car already and you buy another one. I know when I've bought cars using a loan they ask for "proof of insurance" (on another car) and then you have 30 days to get the new car insurred.

Why would you need to pay it off? Did you default on the loan? You should still be listed as the "owner" of the car even if there's a lein on it.

I had insurance on a previous car I got jacked.

As per your other post- the yearly premium would be $5000, because a NO PROOF is considered as bad as a DWI. at least in insurance terms. THe only way it would be cheaper is if I paid it off so I could put liability on it.

So anyways, Sway, be careful they always pick on the people that are doing it the right way.

I still don't understand what the problem is. I've had modded DSM's since 1997 and I've never been pulled over, despite have a loud exhaust and no front license plate.

You have to drive them on the street (which requires they be running) to get pulled over. :whipped:

Kougar 09-13-2004 02:05 PM

Wait a NO PROOF is as bad as a DWI in terms of insurance rate hikes? Shit.

I've been pulled over for a loud exhaust in my beater car. In the conquest, I've been followed for a while but they have never done anything, and that thing has a 3" straight-pipe into a muffler. I didn't drive it that much though.

I've had no problem in the 2 years I owned my 98 GSX (red). I had it modded at one point.

It's all in how you drive. And you should know that you need insurance, or proof of insurance immediately. Yeah, you can fax it in to avoid the ticket, but I always have my insurance agent fax me/email me proof right away so i can carry it.

Anyway, I'm tired of ppl bitching about tickets that are their own fault, or at least they should know to fix ASAP.

sway 09-13-2004 10:43 PM

No shit its all in the way you drive. i had done nothing wrong, used blinkers and the whole nine yards, he only followed me around a corner before turning his lights on, so it had nothing to do with how I was driving. the point is, the cop was a dick, and treated me like i was scum.

unreal808 09-13-2004 11:26 PM

How about driving in the right place at the wrong time, like try driving down around red rock on a friday night, driving a dsm cops look at you like you are a big donut hot out the oven. ;)

Goat Blower 09-14-2004 07:33 PM

Why were you pulled over? Unless you have a whiskey plate or aren't wearing your seatbelt, they don't pull you over for the hell of it.

A//// Guy 09-14-2004 11:34 PM

I thought legally they cant pull you over unless there is something wrong.. bulbs out, swerving, speeding ect. They have to have a reason to pull over I thought.

sway 09-15-2004 03:54 PM

his reason was no front license plate...

A//// Guy 09-15-2004 04:58 PM

Did he do a U-turn? Im assuming he had to or else he couldnt have seen your plate.

sway 09-15-2004 07:05 PM

no.. he was parked on the side of the road and i drove past him.

jdr_fatbob 09-15-2004 08:36 PM

ha its funny how you will get follwed around in a fast car but they wont even bother if your drivng a conversion van.
