I have a fully built Shep tranny. My car is also pretty light, so that relieves a lot of stress on the drivetrain. I have decided to make my DSM more of a fast daily driver and start saving for my GTM. I am hoping for a daily driver that puts down 500whp on pump and runs 10's (on race gas).
450 whp is pretty easy, just a 50 tim and a stock motor. Of course you need the supporting mods, 2g MAF (easiest), SAFC, injectors, FMIC and exhaust. |

Brian is the king of breaking trannies.

I actually met Brian when i bought a tranny from him last summer. I ended up blowing that tranny out. He had given me enough other parts to build another one but that is the one that blew out for the guy that bought my car. As much as i thought i'd never get rid of my GST, i don't miss it one bit. Ain't nothing like stepping up to the plate with AWD! Was nice on the highway but at the track it sucked. |
I went though 7 or 8 transmissions this year.

Well, Joe can't drive :D He did get better towards the end, but he liked to do stupid stuff when he first got his AWD. I think it was only 4 trannies or so though.

i'm with you on that one. i broke my first tranny this fall, and in goes the $1000 LSD. hopefully that will last a year. |
No kidding I'm with these guys. I replaced a perfectly good stock tranny with an even better built-tranny. Its not that had to keep everything in one piece.

Re: hey jet........BUSTED!!!!!
When i broke my 3 GST trannies, it was never the Diff that broke. It was always the output shaft and the top of the 1st/2nd gear shaft. Has anyone ever had to take apart a 'built' tranny to see what was actually done in it? As far as i know, there is no company that makes aftermarket hard gears for these trannies. I know TRE does a process of shot-peening to harden stuff. I'm just wondering what they're actually doint to them to make them stronger. When i built mine, i always did it by the book with the endplays and preloads on the bearings. What usually killed my tranny was wheel hop though. It didn't break right at the time of wheel hop but wasn't long after. I had all the motor mount mods, etc.. and still couldn't prevent it. I don't think any tranny is built to withstand wheelhop.

Re: hey jet........BUSTED!!!!!
anyone know if a 4g63 can fit in these K1 Attacks? i know they have the option of having a H22 motor, but who really wants a car that looks that good with a honda motor.
|
Re: hey jet........BUSTED!!!!!
1) The H22 is a pretty cool engine, has some decent torque for being a Honda. 2) Yes, a 4G63 will fit. 3) Life does exist beyond the "DSM"
In a car so light and small, a high-revving and very responsive engine would probably be more beneficial to one with a load of torque. |
Re: hey jet........BUSTED!!!!!
Dre is looking at putting a 4g63 into one. I had checked it out and one would definately fit in there. They put a ford V6 in them over in Europe. I was looking at putting a VQ35/40 in one. Should be great power and it is an aluminum block (maxima or altima setup).

Re: hey jet........BUSTED!!!!!
tom, just go read the attack forums, they have covered it all engine wise

Re: hey jet........BUSTED!!!!!
I still know where you can get the alluminum 8 from the infinity Q45 pretty cheap. (like 750) Wouldn't that be similar? Comes with the nifty 90MM TB as well;)
|
Re: hey jet........BUSTED!!!!!
The 1UZFE or 2 or 3UZFE (v8's) from the Lexus' would be a good motor also and they're cheaper than the Q45 engine (at least the 1UZFE is)

Re: hey jet........BUSTED!!!!!
I saw that too, it's linked through a NABR thread. I didn't post anything because I'm actually a *nice* guy. (I'd post a smilie, but I don't see an option for it.)

Re: hey jet........BUSTED!!!!!
Yeah after i posted that i saw the post on attackforums, I wish i had good credit because that would be a fun project except for waiting a year and a half just to get the parts. Why do they keep saying you need a doner car, I understand for the engine but why wouldnt they send all the parts?
that would be an awesome car to convert to AWD, someone might be able to beat shanes time with a t-28, lol. |
Re: hey jet........BUSTED!!!!!
The donor car is to keep the kit cost down. They use a lot of stuff from the accord, rear suspension, guages, engine, wiring harness, etc. They actually have the kits in stock now, no need to wait.
