Re: Best Job Perks
i work 901 3rd ave, and like someone said before, it's really cool to work downtown, specially on winter time, you can go on the skyway and buy food or whatever you want withouth freezing, lol, the only thing that sucks is that parking is really expensive,

Re: Best Job Perks
I install gutters in the St. Cloud area. Our shop is on the outside of town so when most people are comming into town I'm on my way out which, is nice. I've been at the job long enough to know how to get every job done. I consider this a perk due to my boss not having to yell at me to get things done or worry that it was done wrong. Another "perk" is that we are at up to 5 different houses per day so it is always somthing new and not the "desk job".
The downside to this is that I work outside everyday. During the summer it is usually pretty nice however, our work truck (not my responsability) has a hole in the floor and a heater which barely functions. This leads to a misserable time through the winter. Anyone hiring? |
Re: Best Job Perks
Lunch breaks with the girlfriend are a "perk". I also get out of the office a lot and during the summer I don't do hardly anything.

Re: Best Job Perks
I guess my only really big perk is that I am head of the repair dept. The repair dept consists of ME. So I have a very unstructured schedule. I get done what needs to get done and then look for ways to improve the process. I still have a direct boss, but he is really cool and usually let's me go about my business without too much interference. I've got a desk and a workbench. So I don't have to spend all my time at one or the other.

Re: Best Job Perks
well I am currently taking a sabatical for school (lol I only work in the buisy season for yachting) my job is alot of work but it does have perks.
I work at a yacht pleny of hot chicks in bikini's (gold diggers and members daughters who are my age). I get to work with Million plus dollar yachts and occationaly go on them. Hot chicks in bikini's. its only 5 miles by car and about half a mile by water from my house. my boss is pretty cool. hot chicks in bikini's. I get alot of connections with the richest people in town. and yeah did I mention that I get to watch Hot girls sunbathing or while filling up their jet ski's :) lol though I can't get caught watching or even sitting down. cons: can't sit down at all. constant work, no brakes. haft to work weekends. I do all of the bitch work for the rich people. and it can get really fucking hot weeding gardens outside all day in direct sunlight w/o a break. some members can be dick's. but overall it is pretty good. |

Re: Best Job Perks
I can more or less define my job where I work and make of it what I want. Company truck is nice. And the company buying beer and playing CoD all friday afternoon are also good.

Re: Best Job Perks
My perks are probably access to my dealership's resources, such as the lifts, tire mounting/balancing machines, air compressors, brake lathes, etc etc. Good, cheap way to get some of the more 'advanced' stuff done fairly easily.
Cons is I'm stuck changing oil most of the time during the day. I fucking hate changing oil...and every new guy is a goddam moron. You'd think after 3 months you wouldn't have to babysit people a few years younger than you, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I also get screwed into working about 3 saturdays a month. |
Re: Best Job Perks
Pros: Well I like what I do. I solve engineering/fabrication/construction problems and give contractors a hard time when I feel so inclined.
Cons: I froze my ass off today because the contractor works slower than slow and I had to oversee a heavy lift. A twenty minute job took two hours. I'm spending a grand at Gander Mountain tonight if I have to. I'm not freezing again. |

Re: Best Job Perks
I work at Brach Candy company. Pro's are I sit on my ass and get paid $18.85 an hr to watch a machine package gummi bears or fruit snacks. I also get all the free candy I want and they gave me a laptop with wireless internet. I never get bored at work.
I also work for a underwater welding company that works on barges on the river. Thats cool cause I get to use all the scuba gear and welding equipment whenever I want and dont have to pay for anything. Its also a very good experiance in my opinion. Its fun wearing a suit that is 70 degrees and jumping into water that is in the 40-50 degree range. Gotta love heated diving suits. |

Re: Best Job Perks
Underwater welding, now that pays some heavy coin if you find the right employer. I wish I would've gone into the SEAL program, that's probably what I'd be doing right now. Hopefully in a warmer climate though.

Re: Best Job Perks
My boss which happens to be my uncle, charges $175 an hr for underwater welding. If its a non local contract there is an 8hr minimum and it is $950 for an 8hr block of time. I see all $46.19/hr of it because I havent gone to school for it and I didnt have any experiance when I started. The guys that have degrees and experiance are making close to $90/hr. Makes me want to go to school for it although I couldnt see making a career out of it. Its a good hobby job. But owning your own business is insane with the amount of money you make. You also need to be on call 24hrs a day but its worth the pay. I like the 3-4am jobs where everything is pitch black and there are huge lights all over. Also for those of you who didnt know it, diving in the mississippi sucks balls. The water is so dirty that you cant see your hand 5 inches in front of your face. If you get lost underwater you usually have to dive deeper (because of the weights that you wear) to the bottom and basically get your helmet down in the sand to see which way the water is moving then go north, south, east, west, from that point. Its pretty freaky the first couple of times but once you get use to it then everything is good. Its definately an experiance I would suggest!

Re: Best Job Perks
Under water welding is crazy, I would like to try it some time. But for my job working on my car after 6pm is a big one.
