Re: Borg Warner Turbos
50 trim turbos are the best for 2.0, I've had B16G E316G, 50 trim on a 2.4, scm61, this HX35 in bolton (acts like a 50 trim).
I have read from a lot of members too that they agree 50 trim sized turbo is the best for street strip cars, low end enough for the street and on high boost enough for the track. have you checked any PTE billet 50 trim things? |
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
If you're really wanting 50trim sized, an S256 is supposed to be somewhat similar.

PTE makes a super nice looking billet 5557, and another I can't think of right now. Go to EvoM and send Mike@awdmotorsports a pm, I talked to him about that turbo last fall and it sounds amazing. Otherwise a 68HTA would put down almost the same numbers, but faster spool and for cheaper. |
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
Isn't the title of this thread Borg Warner turbos?
Start your own PTE thread elsewhere!! Haha, kidding kidding calm down don't cut me. |
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
Hahaha, well if you guys see any good threads about the s256/259, that aren't cluttered with crap posts, please post um up!!

He is right though. S256 have eclipsed 500whp on DJ at around the 30psi mark multiple times I will search and edit my posts. |

Re: Borg Warner Turbos
Found a guy making 470/405@30psi on a S256
I believe its bolt-on housing, with forrester SMIM, built 2.0L. I wanna say E85 cause hes from IA. |
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
Wow, that's pretty impressive. Link? And on what dyno?
|
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
I believe link and DJ, sorry i forgot to add that.
|
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
I meant do you have a link to any dyno sheets or anything?
|
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
no, i just ran across it somehow and remembered u wanted info
|
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
Okay, gotcha. Thanks for the info though!
|
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
I'm sorry, I forgot what the Classifieds and PMs are for. It won't happen again because I'm sure some asshole Admin will ban me for it.

Re: Borg Warner Turbos
anyone know if bw is planning to make vtg turbos for the aftermarket section? I was thinking with e85, it might be possible to push those type of turbos.
|
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
You can push anything... just a matter of how many parts you want to buy...

Re: Borg Warner Turbos
http://www.diesel-plus.com/turbo_sea...ner%20Airwerks
Nice link for anyone looking to get BW/Airwerks turbos directly, without going through BEP. Of course these will come in there standard exhaust housings however. No Mitsu or .70 T3 housings like BEP offers. These suckers are fairly cheap. One thing else that I have recently learned is BW turbos typically come with 270 thrust bearings. However BEP offers a 360 upgrade apparently. |
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
Sweet mary and joseph, that is fucking cheap for those BW stuff.
Good find. Boo their prices on Holsets though. |
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
http://www.full-race.com/articles/bo...fr-turbos.html
Sounds like FR is working directly with BW and making some fancy new stuff. Interesting stuff I think. They are supposidely designed from the ground up, to incorporate all the latest and greatest technologies, but I'm sure you'll have to pay for it all in the end. Interesting reading though I thought, and figured I'd share. |
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
Super Bleeder posted this in the shoutbox this morning. Really cool stuff their doing.
|
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
Yeah definately sounds like something interesting to follow. I'm sure you'll have to pay for the R&D effort that went into them though...
Just some other random info as I ended up purchasing a BW turbo for my new project. Here's a little info on how I chose mine. I'm 98% sure this is all accurate, but if someone finds something I wrote is wrong, please feel free to correct it Some off the shelf ones I was considering were: S300SX 83-75 Compressor: 60mm inducer, 83mm exducer, has ETT, rated at 68lb/min Turbine: 75mm inducer, 68mm exducer (old style) S300SX 88-75 Compressor: 62.99mm inducer, 88mm exducer, has ETT, rated at 75lb/min Turbine: 75mm inducer, 68mm exducer (new style) S300SX 91-79 Compressor: 66mm inducer, 91.4mm exducer, has ETT, rated at 82lb/min Turbine: 80mm inducer, 73mm exducer You'll see how I noted NEW and OLD style. The turbine wheels on each of these turbos have the same specs, but are actually different. Here's a little pic showing the difference. The one on the 88-75 is pretty much regarded as the better of the two. In fact some are saying for this sized turbo, it's the best designed turbine wheel on the market today. http://www.full-race.com/prototype/t...75vs8875-2.jpg I was looking for decent top end, while still retaining as best of spool as possible, so I was stuck on those two. Then I found out that Full Race made a custom spec one that pretty much filled that gap for people like myself. They basically took the 88-75 (better exh wheel) but put a different compressor wheel on it, and called it the 84-75. S300SX 84-75 Compressor: 61.4mm inducer, 84mm exducer, has ETT, rated at 72lb/min Turbine: 75mm inducer, 68mm exducer (new style) That's it, just figured I'd share some info for anyone else interested in these, and to hopefully answer some questions to those who've asked me for more info on the turbo I chose. Also a nice dyno comparison that was done, between the 83 and 88 turbo, using the 1.0 and .91 exhaust housings. You can see why I opted for the .91 http://www.full-race.com/prototype/t...%20vs%2091.jpg |
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
I really like to see some dyno comparisons against the turbos that are competing against.
Every test is always diff. so they have to infer it would be better if it ran more boost or would do this. They seem promising, but thats about it. |
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
I'd love to see dyno comparisons also. I'd really love to see a comparison of the new PTE's vs. an equivalent sized S300SX. Real apples to apples comparisons, but those are hard to come by. So unless someone else has done it, or you can afford to do the testing yourself, you just gotta make you decision based on the best information you have at hand. I'm just sharing the information I've found.
Also it seems (from my research) that the longevity of these center sections seems to be a bit less troublesome as that of some of the competition which was a plus for me as well. |
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
^Oh fo sho man, great thread.
Shit if it wasn't for you and the random mentioning of BW turbos i wouldn't know anything about them, your thread is the most helpful though. |

Re: Borg Warner Turbos
Their new EFR stuff is looking pretty cool. I like the idea of integrated bov and internal wg to simplify the piping. I wonder what they will cost in the end.
|
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
I'm uber interested in the pricing for this new EFR line.
|
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
|
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
Pricing to be released today!!!
|
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
Yeah I'm excited to hear what they will cost. Depending on the cost, I may have to reconsider my turbo option. If the added cost of the turbo is easily offset by the cost savings it would induce (i.e. purchasing and plumbing WG's and BOV no longer needed), I may reconsider. And while it makes the turbo itself a bit more complex, it simplifies everything else and cleans up the engine bay because of those same things mentioned above (no external BOV's or WG's, and their respective plumbing).
But if they cost $2500, then well I'll just stick with my simple 84-75 :) |

Re: Borg Warner Turbos
I kinda want one!
|
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
Sorry, I don't think any of these come with cute blue wheels... :D
kidding kidding!! |
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
Haha billet is what really is the hotness behind that blue, and these ET comp wheels are sexeh! All the other stuff sure sounds pretty amazing on paper; I just hope the built in BPV/BOV doesn't SUCK like the ones that come on the stock vw turbo comp covers. Anna's car came with one--for reference, a plastic 2G BOV from a '97 w/ 140k miles on it held boost better. Seriously. And we're talking 18psi, not 30+ like a lot of us would intend to run these turbos at!

Re: Borg Warner Turbos
Side note: brandon, hella awesome tech info in this thread, mad props!
side side note: you still have flexfuel mafia in your sig, time to convert your boat to E85? Winter project? :D |
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
oh man, got to learn a new name scheme.
I likey these. |
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
Did they release any pricing on them? I would really be surprised if they cost less than a 1G DSM.
|
Re: Borg Warner Turbos
I'm scouring my normal sites everyday and putting up the info here as soon as I find anything out. And so far no pricing...
Here is however a graph someone had made based on compressor maps, comparing different sized comp wheels to what the maps claim they flow. Just some eye candy, take it for what it's worth: http://forums.evolutionm.net/attachm...bo-airlfow.png |
