I haven't gotten that good yet. Maybe in a year or so I could do some stuff like that. But right now, as fancy as I can get would be letters one color, and the rest a 2nd color, kinda like what I did in this last one.

But next I'm going to start playing with Candy colors, those seem to look pretty sweet.

You got some mirror black for a player?

Re: Powder results

Do I ever! Black just happens to be how we roll over here. I got Gloss Black, Mirror Black, Wrinkle Black, and soon we're ordering up some Flat Black.

Austin said we're going to be coating all of Colin's (off hmt) charge piping for him in flat black. So I'm sure we'll have some extra flat black after all that.

How's this coming along? I've been considering getting the rims on my bike pc'd this winter. how much would you charge to do them some kind of blue?

Looks like you are getting the hang of powdercoating. I'll have to check it out if I see you around.

Halon 09-04-2006 10:06 PM

Re: Powder results

Well I'd have to know how big the rims are. Because if they don't fit in the oven, well then I can't do them.

I though of something I wanted to get powdercoated....but then I forgot what it was!!!

the front rim is 17x3.5 I think. The rear rim is 17x5.5 I can double check if need be.

Re: Powder results

That's too big, I can't fit anything that big into my current oven. Maybe someday when we're done building our future oven.

All I know is if you get any of that fucking powder on my car, there is gonna be some drive-bys happening up in blaine ;)

Looks really good man, I just may have to have you do some stuff for me as soon as I get some money, b/c you already have all of my parts in your garage.

I have the tarp on the front of your car. Even though you said you didn't mind, I'm still trying to keep as much off it as I can!

Well I had to take off my wrinkle black cover because it had a crack in it and oil was leaking out of it. I'm going to try and repair it with this aluminum filler stuff I have.

But since it came off, I had a Hyundai cover laying around that I'm going to be throwing on the car. I've been trying to figure out how to make a color to match the Black Cherry color of my car. My idea was to use a transparent/candy red, but with a Gloss Black base coat instead of the typical white/silver/chrome base you'd typically use with a transparent/candy color. Here's the results. It looked like absolute crap before I coated it. I was actually a little worried on how it would turn out because of the poor condition the surface was in and I couldn't get a lot of crap off the surface because it was just caked on it, even after a couple hours of prepping it. But I think it turned out just awesome. If you're just looking at it dead on, it looks pretty much like a gloss black (like you'll notice in the 3rd pic), but once it gets some light on it, then you see the maroon look (like in pics 4+). I think I'll be doing all my piping this color as well. I'm real happy as this was my first attempt at using a transparent powder. Let me know what you all think!

First 2 pictures are just of the gloss black base coat. Then from pic 3 and on is with the transparent applied. In pic 3 you can see how it basically looks like gloss black. But then when I turned the flash on in pic 4, you can see the maroon reflect.

One of these days I'm going to be getting an HVLP gun so I can start ceramic coating as well!

Looking good! You should have ground off the hyundai though! Are you going to polish the letters?

Halon 03-23-2007 09:58 AM

Re: Powder results

Nah I'm going to leave it just as it is. I think they HYUNDAI on it is kinda funny personally! I to find a fitting to go in the pass side of the cover where there typically is a fitting for blow-by to exit!

You don't even have a Hyundai block in yours playa.

He was probably, hopefully working on my Shortblock and didn't want to be caught in the act of working on the Top Secret Six-Bolt 4G63 LS1 E4TR!

Looks good man! How has your older stuff been holding up?

Halon 03-24-2007 01:34 PM

Re: Powder results

Well my old pipes got ruined when I opened up the radiator cap when it was still hot, and blew hot coolant all over and stained the old pipes. Those were also my first pieces I ever did, and I think I slightly under-cured them, so they needed to be redone anyway. My wrinkle black one was holding up well, except it had a crack in it causing oil leaks. My gloss black one Swifty has. I did some piping for a guy with a lexus probably about 4 months back, and his stuff still looks good. I'm keeping this stuff for awhile so we'll see how long it lasts. Hopefully awhile though!

That black cherry vc looks great! My car is the black cherry color as well and I really want to find a color that matches the car. How does that match? I was thinking about this color https://host532.ipowerweb.com/~rosey...banburyred.jpg

btw your work is great! You should become a vender on the boards

Re: Powder results

I travel too much to ever really make this a business. It's a hobby, nothing more. And I can do one-sies and two-sies here and there on the side. We mainly keep the basic neutral colors in stock (Different blacks, gun-metal, silver, almost-chrome, clear coat). If some one wants something done in a different color, I'd have to charge to buy the powder because it's not something I have or will probably use much of in the future.

About wanting to match the black cherry. I have not found a powder out there that matches the cars color. You can buy powder tint, that will darken the color, but I went a different avenue and tried this transparent approach. It does not match perfectly due to it being darker with the black base. If you shine direct light onto it, it matches fairly well, but in just plain old light, it is pretty dark. But I like how it turned out.

Prices, well when anyone actually wants something done, not "oh in a month maybe", but actually wants it done now, then just hit me up and I'll let you know!

Did some lugs today for my best friends civic. I don't know how well they will hold up to wrenches though.

I also did a set for Brownman, but didn't get any pics. Maybe he'll take some pics of them installed on the car with his black evo rims.

Doing my intake and UIC pipe now. This is the base coat in Almost Chrome. 2nd coat will be the Transparent Red. Should give it a "candy" appearance.

Halon 08-03-2007 12:11 AM

Re: Powder results

Well I am going to need to buy more of the transparent red. It's not sticking to the pipe very well, and I wasted a ton. Damn

Halon 08-03-2007 03:23 PM

Re: Powder results

I found more of the red. The pipe turned out like ass. Time to strip it all!

My nuts turned out good, but now they are chipping like crazy, so i don't know, but i like them and appreciative of you doing them for me.

Halon 08-03-2007 05:46 PM

Re: Powder results

Ya, I was thinking they'd chip. Powder Coating is strong, but if you put a wrench on it i'd expect it to prolly chip.

Well stripped it all off. I dunno I think maybe my home/hobby setup isn't ideal for doing those candy colors. I ended up redoing everything in a gunmetal color, and gave it a gloss clear coat as well.
