Re: My Talon
3 new things I added to the car, pics soon :)
|
Re: My Talon
Deleted power steering because the bolts broke! (grrrrr)
Removed Windo washer bottle I got a new windshield! (it has been severely cracked since owning, and made my car look super ghetto) New black housing headlights (BEST MOD TO DATE) Tinted rear brake lights and third brake light (Thanks Kevin!) Pics asap. |
Re: My Talon
Saw the car last night, very clean and liked the headlights! Nice to finally get a face to the name as I am a very forgetful person with names.
|
Re: My Talon
The car looks nice. Is that a Pontiac GTO in the garage?
|
Re: My Talon

Yes, that is a GTO! It's a 1970 GTO base model, 400 with a 3 speed auto on the floor. My mom bought it brand new :) It has girl options like: vanity mirror, rear speaker, etc lol. We have all documents for it, like the window sticker, mainteance stuff records, and it sits in our garage. It has a small transmission leak, hence why it isn't driven. Well, I drove it three times in the last 8 years just around the block about 2 months ago. |
Re: My Talon
I deleted cruise control today with a shiney brand new non-turbo non-cruise throttle cable. I have to say this is one of the most suprising mods I have done. The car feels sooo much more responsive, and the pedal just seems more sensative, and reactive. I guess 16 year old cables might stretch a little, plus that stupid linkage the cruise uses probably doesn't help crisp response. So a combo of brand new cable and no linkage has surprisingly made the car feel a heck of a lot better to drive!! I was surprised!
|
Re: My Talon
^i might have to do that to then, how much was it? and from where?
I am intrigued to see your car this weekend, its gorgeous |
Re: My Talon
You don't have to actually buy the non cruise cable. You can still use your stock one for the CC. I will show you guys at the cookout if you want. All you do is have to make your own little bracket.
|
Re: My Talon
I actually have the NT cabel off your car aaron, before it was sold to you :sasmokin:
Kevin, glad to see you like the headlights..just remember in our little race, who got them first :jjj2a: Also, I just rebuilt my shifter setup..and modded it too..feels much more notchy and sturdy..ask me how I did it..and I'll show you at the cookout -A. Swift |
Re: My Talon
I got the cable right from brookdale, they stock it now :) Also, I'd say my favorite mods to date:
Black housing headlights: Car just looks SO much nicer, newer, cleaner. NON-Cruise cable: Better/crisper throttle response! Kpsorts: Lowered 1Gs are hott, as is adjustability. Shep tranny: Actually being able to ship at redline haha. And yes, Swifty you beat me by a couple of days for the headlights! Winter goals: 20G/Tial 38mm DSMLINK 1000cc FP Manifold Ceramic coat manifold, exhaust housing, and o2 Convert ebay dumped o2 for tial 38 |
Re: My Talon
Notchy? gross. I'll pass.
|
Re: My Talon
perhaps notchy is a bad word...more-so it feels sturdy, and SOLID.
And by a few days? I had them installed on my car back in january..the car just wasn't out driving yet, since the manifolds where all pulled off of it, and I still had the A1's to install. :bling: -A. Swift |
Re: My Talon
^stop jacking the thread.
I will try it out at the cookout and we will see how it feels. Kevin nice car, cant wait to see your car. Even if its not the first 1gb i see. |
Re: My Talon
I just have to pull the axels and a crossmember, and then I can remove the engine and tranny.
Why am I doing this? Kinda just for fun, and to clean and repaint the engine bay!! I am also gonna address as much little stuff as possible. I will probably hack up my bumper to improve airflow to the radiator, and make an airtight airbox for my air filter, as well as some sort of air scoop for my air box. |
Re: My Talon
I will see if I can find a pic of my old black 1g. Depending how you routed your FMIC, you can put the air filter right in the front bumper. I made short route piping (cut a hole near radiator) and cut the inside of the engine bay near where the filter was. I then manuvered piping down into the fenderwell and had my filter right in the bumper. I didn't make an airtight box or anything but it worked well. I am not sure if I showed it to you back in the day...
My chances of actually finding a pic are 5% though. On a side note, I didn't notice any difference personally when I got rid of cruise control, PS, or AC. |

Also, I used to run a "Buschur Cold Air Intake" that put a cone filter right in front of the tire. Sucking up water a few times made me decide thats a bad idea. The filter itself is staying in the stock location, But I want it to get fresh cold air so an air box is needed. I will enlarge the stock sidemount intercooler piping hole, and by that I mean get the sawzall out. I'm gonna probably run 4" or 5" dryer duct from the bumper cover to the air box. I will post pics as I go! Engine and tranny are sitting on a pallet infront of my car :) |

Re: My Talon
Sounds like an amazing ride that you will never part with.
You have to show me those little things you did with the car, i know for me its what makes me happiest. Also i wouldn't mind a ride in the car. |
Re: My Talon

I had it for a couple of years without any problems sucking up water. I used the "sawzall technique" as I was fitting a large intake pipe down there. I had to cut a lot out and use the tin snips around the fender area as it was a little tight. May go easier if you use the sawzall from the bottom. |
Re: My Talon
Update on painting the engine bay: Welle's said they could NOT put my color in an aerosol can beause it had too much pearl in it, something about the nozzle would get clogged and end up with a shitty result...
I was pissed about that, I dont have a spray gun, and I dont know anything about that so, for now, the engine bay is not getting painted anything, just cleaned a lot. I have been in the bay redoing the wire loom for the harness with new loom and tape. |

Do you have air tools? If you do, I can probably borrow you a paint gun. I believe mine is from MAC but you could buy one for pretty cheap.I haven't painted a car in a while though so I would have to look. I usually buy paint, reducer, etc at sherwin williams in bloomington. The paint store should be able to tell you how to mix it. Oh, and if you do paint it with a paint gun, make sure you have a water filter on your air line. |
Re: My Talon
Hey kevin, what are you doing tomorrow? I would like to take a look at your car and i could show you the way my car is cut for cold air, it might help give you ideas on how to do it better.
|
Re: My Talon
hmmm tomorrow as friday? I will be doing nothing before 2pm.
I just need to wetsand this stuff, hopefully have pics up. |
Re: My Talon
i'm making steak now, then i should get of my ass and fix the car.
|
Re: My Talon
^lol wtf? I'm hungry now, thanks.
Where's the pics kevin? Perhaps you can help me re-do my fusebox and such to clean up my engine bay too, and then i'll mask off the motor and re-paint it gloss black (don't have room for a motor pull right now, until I find a place to purchase) -A. Swift |
Re: My Talon
It was good. but car still isn't fixed, i fail.t

Re: My Talon

|
Re: My Talon
Ugh, that timing belt motor mount bolt is too shitty looking, time for a new one :) And that mount itself is too dirty... ugh.
|
Re: My Talon
Picked up a C+R Racing radiator and spal fan for $80 and my purple valvecover! Woo hoo!
I've also started a new "real" job as a machinist, I am currently trying to juggle two jobs and 60 hours a week, so far it's been fine! I can't wait for my first check. Should have a lot of extra money to waste and save now. But the car into storage on Saturday, right before our first snow fall!!! LET THE MODDING BEGIN!!!! |
Re: My Talon
Just read through the thread, great work! Love clean 1g's. Can't wait to buy another one.
|
Re: My Talon
Nice, what snow fall.
|
Re: My Talon
It "snowed" like sunday morning, just some flakes. I miss the car already... But it's cheaper to drive my Honda and keeps me out of trouble.
Turns out I'm gonna have ALOT of extra money, my winter plans were: 20g/dsmlink/1200+cc injectors... But an FP setup is looking great... |
Re: My Talon
So far I've gathered a Tial 38mm wastegate, I am ordering an FP Race manifold tomorrow, and unless a great deal comes by I won't be getting any car stuff till probably the new year.
|
Re: My Talon
wow man sound's like its gonna be a beast.
looks good |
