going to put a hot pink vlave cover on the talon. (thanks brandon they are great) also will buff the car for the very first time. we never did it after kevin and I painted a few years ago.

Also got the last 2 fittings for the -8an lines for the evo so that will be going in in the morring. along with the taped hot pink fuel rail

Last Minute Prep for Mitsu Cookout

So what last minute stuff have you been working on in prep for the Mitsu Cookout?

For me I have been working on the Talon after taking it out of storage and have been busy with cleaning, cleaning and cleaning. May turn up the boost a bit on the EVO for the dyno challenge.

I may have to enter two cars there this year! Talon will be at the swap meet (for sale) for sure.

Took a quick pic this morning in my driveway.

POR 15 all the pieces that make up the rear

Clean up the wiring from the MS2 system and make it looks nice(yes, ms2 works!!) Tune it a little...

find a boost gauge to go over 20psi

Found a sun roof with a detachable switch from U pull, install that

Clean, wax, detail, drive, repeat...

Almost there...:1smiley.php:

Last year didn't make it but this year will be there!!

Energy bushings are in.
4 bolt swap is complete
Cleaned up the whole rear suspension with POR 15 (feel like I should try to put a mirror down to show people what it looks like)

Finished painting the rear brakes, need to install
Then car can sit on 4 wheels

need alignment because I pulled everything apart and now need readjustment

ECU wiring is almost cleaned up and found a good place for my new ECU (sits in the cup holder or center console)

Had all day to work on it. I am going to be close on making it this year.

Well the head is off of my car and I am trying to finish putting that back together, put a new entire convert assembly in including a new top, install component speakers, clean, tune, and install new front a arms, ball joints, and tie rod ends as well as the camber kit!!

Re: Cookout is close! Any major plans?

I'd like to get my 850cc fuel injectors installed, install my new Energy Suspension rear diff mount bushings, and a good detailing. I was hoping my new rear strut tower brace would be here but no luck. Oh, I should probably get the cone scuff off my front bumper too.

I got my car all buffed out today so it's all nice and shiny now :) I'll attack the engine bay on Friday because it's hideous under there...

FIC 850cc injectors installed and dialed-in, boost increased from 6k RPM+, fuel/timing maps retuned!

Come Saturday I'll detail the car and maybe get my rear diff poly bushings installed :)

Car starts, runs, and moves! see you guys at the cook out!

My interior is all ripped apart I don't know if I should put it back together.
However I do have a roll bar that could be installed.
Should I put that in before the cookout?

I thought about doing my radiator hoses last night, then decided MEH and didn't do it :P Maybe tonight or saturday.

I've brought turbo to the cookout for the last several years, but now I have TWO beagles and Anna's out of town...can't decide if I should bring them or not....

I had wished to FINALLY finish tuning the talon and have the cage installed, but time has just run out. So, I'll jsut bring it out as-is. I'm already assembling a new list of mods/parts for over the winter, including a new ported/polished head, better springs/retainers, cam gears, kiggly main girdle brace, and to clean up the engine bay more/paint car.

How about you leave the thing alone, get a real tune, and just drive the thing sometime before the earth runs out of fossil fuels.

scheides 08-22-2008 12:09 PM

Re: Cookout is close! Any major plans?

No offense Swifty, but when's the last time you went WOT in your car? Get that thing tuned so you can have some fun with it already! Being in perpetual mod mode does not mean you should never tune it!

:D

A//// Guy 08-22-2008 12:11 PM

Re: Cookout is close! Any major plans?

Haha that is impossible.. Im thinking he either cant drive stick so the car just sits and gets mods over new mods, or maybe hes scared of the power that might be made if he does get it tuned.

polishmafia 08-22-2008 12:31 PM

Re: Cookout is close! Any major plans?

Swifty, I thought you said you couldn't find 110 race gas anymore, so you're car was undriveable... Don't put 89 in there cause you might blow the welds off the manifold!!!

Let's see.. what do I have left?

- Interior detail
- Engine bay is cleaned, but needs a polish
- Remove front plate LOL
- Full wax/detail exterior
- Detail wheels
- Reapply front badge on grill
- Rewire driver side city light
- Install new splash shield on both front wheels

And I think thats it. :/

Re: Cookout is close! Any major plans?

Well, I was gonna show up. But, I need to tear it apart a lil bit and see if anything was wrecked when my balance shaft belt came off and was stuck on the cam gear... So, chances are, I'm out. Might show up with my friend and he's gonna be running his 1g on the rollers.

Swifty1638 08-22-2008 02:07 PM

Re: Cookout is close! Any major plans?

I have gone WOT actually..and it pulls decently...but it's half the boost this gas can run, and it also doesn't shift well(meaning in the next gear it breaks up, sounding like a subaru-just needs more time spent tunning up top)

I have been trying to tune this over a few weeks now, but stupid shit keeps popping up, like BnS running outta gas (now they have some) and rain, then MAP not finishing off their new dyno cell so I can finish the tune!

Re: Cookout is close! Any major plans?

Tonight's plan:
1. Tuck main wiring under intake mani - DONE
2. Get rid of the oil coating the entire engine bay - DONE
3. Remove silver heat shield on hood - DONE
4. Change custom flexy hose to a real lower radiator hose
5. Fix MAJOR oil leak from bottom center stud on manifold
6. Go drink with Peter

EDIT: I left my tools in Maple Grove so 4 and 5 have to wait until tomorrow.

Oh yea and I'll have Paco with me.

I moved all my crap out of the house and put it in the garage, i didn't think i would be selling anything at the swap meet/dyno day, but i have enough stuff to where it takes up as much room as sams civic, my car is ready and its gonna be.

I'm going to change the oil and filter tomorrow, and probably give it a hand wash.

As if it'll help it look any better...

Re: Cookout is close! Any major plans?

I got my engine bay sprayed down with cleaner and a hose, scrubbed all the bugs off my front bumper, got most of the tar off the skirts...

She looks better than when I bought her, I can tell ya that!

But tomorrow night I'll have to clean off cone scuffs...

Re: Cookout is close! Any major plans?

My evo is all clean! Thanks Hughes for the help/handwashing lesson! :D

Installed new radiator hoses last night and this morning, detailed engine bay and finally cleaned up all the oil overspray I had from my oil feed line. Then detailed wheels, handwashed, claybared, handwashed, waxed, and cleaned windows. I try and keep my car pretty clean, but it feels SO GOOD to get it *this clean* at least once a year.

Re: Cookout is close! Any major plans?

well just got back from the Dyno Challenge and took second over all. I think the evo has 370+hp in it easy, showed up with a couple minor mods and too low of boost. First pull was only 25 psi, turned it up but not enough on the second pull and it made 26 psi, third pull i turned it up again and made just under 28 psi and 361.8hp. Not bad for a third pull :)

Talon got some kind words I feel the $7500 price is reasonable. Felt good to drive it.

Thanks to Cher for driving it today.

Now I need to detail the evo for the show. Man the rims are dirty!
