Then when the headgasket blew, he thought maybe that was the cause. He lists some details in this thread, you may want to PM him for other info. Hope it helps! |

Yeah, that's the car. I fixed all the stuff wrong with it as well as some other small things not listed there. Whatever it's doing right now has nothing to do with running rich or flooding, that's a pretty simple fix. When I did the headgasket, I inspected the cylinder bores very closely, all looked very good. The head and block deck surfaces were straight and in great shape, it simply had an old stock gasket which eventually failed. There was no signs of detonation on the piston tops or even large carbon build-up from running rich. Except for a choppy idle, it ran great while I had it. This isn't something I've seen before.

I smelled gas when it died on the freeway, and even the tow truck driver said why it smelled so gassy. The non-start issue is the main problem now, and if its had fuel issues, and I'm smelling fuel...kinda sounds like a fuel issue. Possible f.p.r. problem?

It's possible that the diaphragm in the FPR blew out and the fuel is getting back into the intake manifold through the vacuum line. I had that problem on my car a couple years ago, but I was running an Aeromotive FPR at the time. What fuel pump is in it?

Since its been a while, I figured I would post up a little update.
The talon has been taking a nap under a blanket of snow, until today when my family mechanic stopped by. After a few minutes and a compression test, we found out it had none in a couple cylinders....compression that is. I guess the lower timing belt pulley wiggled loose a bit, allowing the belt to jump some teeth and bend some valves. So, I will need a head, and then we will check over the rest of it as well. |

When I get it back I'm planning on fixing a couple cosmetic things. Need a new driver side end piece for the spoiler, a front bumper cover, and maybe a new driver side fender (its orange peeling). |

Well here are some pics of the talon in all its glory (up on the flatbed...lol). I picked up a head today (thanks to iceminion), and have to get all the fluids, gaskets, belts, from my pops (bday present). It didn't get picked up friday, but will be out early this week, and hopefully back by the end of the week.
(notice in the first pic, the talon decieded to take a nap on 35w North....haha) |

It's got brand new ARP's, and you can reuse the Cometic. I still don't get how the pulley wiggled off.

Well unless the timing wasnt done right. The marks are off at least 4 teeth from eachother, I havent even had a chance to see how far off the main pulley is, and the belt shifted over an 1/8th of an inch. It just doesnt magically do that, especially since the timing was just done. It takes something drastic to do that.

The timing belt was done right, my only thought is the main pulley bolt backed out somehow, which doesn't make any sense either. Let me know what you find out.

This weekend I'm hoping. It's been an asston of work fixing the stuff that shouldn't be broken. It's pretty ridiculous actually. I couldve had it done today but my friend set the timing a bit off and we didn't realize till I had pretty much finished up. A couple hours on saturday and it should be done. Oh and I need a new o2 sensor if anyone has got one lying around.

So another quick update, and yet another set back.
Got it all buttoned up this morning, checked timing, filled with fluids and it was the time for the moment of truth. Sat in it, turned the key and she popped off. The only problem was....ROD KNOCk!!!!! So yep, after all the time spent, I come to find out the lower end is shot. Needless to say I'm quite upset over the whole ordeal. Pretty fed up with this hunk o junk that I bought. So back to square one, going to get a motor and swap it in, and hope for the best next time around. |

Almost 100% positive it's rod knock, timing was dead on, no noise from the tranny, it's a lower end knock. I'm almost at the point where I'm done with it. Just sell it to someone with the time of the day to fix it. I have time, but my patience with this car is nearing it's end. Plus for the money I paid for it, I haven't even gotten to put 25 miles on the car. And this all couldve been avoided if there wasn't shotty work done by the previous owner.

I know exactly what you mean man, I think I got close to 20k into mine on shit that was fucked up by previous owners, I bought mine 3 years ago and I have put on 6,000 miles.

OH and theres were the valve came from, it knocked the spark plug up as well, and stripped it out pretty bad. |
