Re: 1994 Talon TSi
I can setup NLTS also, if you run a wire from your cruise control switch to ECU pin #104.
|
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Maybe, I'm not real sure how hard NLTS is on trannies though...

Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Well I tore the turbo off this weekend, I figured even if it wasn't 100% shot I better freshen it up before I switch to E85. With that being said, I got my brand spankin new PTE 1200cc injectors in the mail today that I got a great deal on (Thanks again Jvsc91Talon!) So I plan on getting this turbo rebuilt and then gettting this thing on the corn ASAP.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...M/IMG00080.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...M/IMG00081.jpg I took the turbo apart and blasted the housings, ran everything else through the parts washer, and will be bringing it all to jhaan_dude tomorrow to have him replace the seals, send the shaft out to get balanced, replace what needs replacing, etc. Here are some before and afters: http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...M/IMG00071.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...M/IMG00072.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...M/IMG00079.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...M/IMG00082.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...M/IMG00083.jpg Also cleaned up the O2 housing, it looked like crap, so I ran it through the wire wheel. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...M/IMG00084.jpg I wanted to get some pics of the wheels and shaft on the turbo but the camera wasn't cooperating to get the detail I wanted in the photos. There was some ever so slight scoring in the shaft and a tiny tiny amount of damage in the compressor wheel where it had touched the housing somewhere along the line. It had a little more than normal side-to-side shaft play and some pretty bad end-to-end play. (like 1/32-1/16 or so) So I am pretty glad I took the turbo off, now I know exactly what I will have and will have the peace of mind that it won't blow up on the dyno once I throw about 100 more HP to it. |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
I've decided to go a different direction with this car, so I got some parts for it! I Picked up a Turbonetics (think its a look alike) Manifold from slowbubblecar, an SC-61 from jhaan, and will be picking up an external wastegate soon from 95talonracer. Then I need to replace the headgasket, I will be going with a permatorque and L19's. After that the only thing I will need is a custom o2 housing (because I am going to try to reroute the wastegate instead of dumping it) and a tune and this thing should be good to go sooner or later

Re: 1994 Talon TSi
looks good! good choice on the turbo I also just picked up a scm61 from him
|
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Looks good! Good luck getting your hood to close with that manifold, they were designed for a 2g, and there isn't enough clearance between the wastegate and the hood on a 1g. And yes, that's a copy of the turbonetics manifold.

Really? I didn't know that, thanks for the heads up. |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Yeah, TKR's brother (Craig on here) had the turbonetics manifold on his 1g and had to make a little extension off the manifold to angle the wastegate down enough to clear the hood.
|
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Well I do know a few good welders/fabricators in my area, so it shouldn't be to hard to figure it out. Anyways, thanks for the heads up dude! One less thing to surprise me down the road.
|
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
send my bro a pm (sn on here is craig) about the manifold. he still has pics of the adaptor that we made for it so it would clear on his 1g

Re: 1994 Talon TSi
that looks stupid easy do. Mike, hit me up if you want any help with it, I have a friend who could whip through that in about 2 min.

Fuck ya, I was thinking it would be worse. I think I would just have Sean do that up quick this winter for about 5 bucks. Thanks craig! |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Picked up this huge ass external wastegate from Kerry (95talonracer) a few days ago.
Also edited the first post to show the dyno sheets from the old setup with the Hahn Super 16g on shitty 91 oct pump. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/IMG00186.jpg |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Picked up a few things the last couple weeks. Got some A1 headstuds, AEM wideband, bigger FMIC (Swifty's) and some KYB GR-2 struts with Eibach pro-kit springs on them, all for about $800. Also going to have an old friend do some upholstery work with the hatch cover I bought from TKR, and the door panels I bought from kerry and have him redo them in black suede to match the seats and carpet. I'll put more pics up when there is progress on some of this stuff.
$200 well spent I hope.... http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/CIMG0146.jpg |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Swweeett! Looking forward to some progress!

Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Well, I picked up some more parts this weekend. Still haven't been able to get anything done on this thing though
Swifty's old Dejon Tool 28 x 11 x 3" FMIC, and the sweet SMIM John made that kicked the competitions ass in the SMIM Showdown last year. I plan on getting the SMIM powdercoated black, and probably have some nitrous bungs installed before hand on each runner. When the car is all done, I plan on doing a back-to-back testing of the stock IM vs the REEF "Race" manifold. http://mitsustyle.com/forums/showthr...ghlight=iroc_g http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/IMG00364.jpg |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Dropped off a bunch of stuff for Primo to do for me. The intake manifold, and 2g throttle body elbow for wrinkle black powdercoating, the turbine housing and exhaust manifold for ceramic coating, headlights to get blacked out, and taillights to be tinted and clear corners to get tinted.

Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Got some of the stuff back from Primo Performance today, they did a great job!!
Manifold: http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/CIMG0188.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/CIMG0192.jpg This is just to show the inside of the SMIM: http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/CIMG0190.jpg TB elbow: http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/CIMG0194.jpg Corner markers: http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/CIMG0195.jpg Tail lights: http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/CIMG0199.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/CIMG0198.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/CIMG0203.jpg For the original plastic on the tail light assembly I plan on using Mother's Back to Black, it brings back the original luster to old faded plastic peices, I tested some on my WRX C pillar and it turned out pretty good so I'm going to use it on these also. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/CIMG0206.jpg Overall everything I picked up today was great quality A++ for Primo, thanks guys!! |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
lookin pretty sweet. any pics of those on the talon yet?!

Re: 1994 Talon TSi
I also need to clean up the mess under the hood. AKA delete anything that doesn't make the car run or turn. I need some help with what exactly I can get rid of, and what needs to be relocated. I have some pics here, and I already plan on getting rid of the firewall pad, ABS, move the nitrous solenoids, and drop the battery. I also want to drop the whole engine harness down out of sight.
From right to left: http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/CIMG0225.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/CIMG0226.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/CIMG0227.jpg Another shot of the whole thing: http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/CIMG0254.jpg |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
the coolent on the pistons is normal when you take off the head. it drips off the head. It does look ok. I would talk to jhaan and ask about the turbo seals. I dont know of anywhere else where the bright green stuff would get into the intercooler piping besides throught the compressor housing. if it was leaking somehow through the head or the valve cover it would be brown chocolate milk, and the rest of your oil would look like that.

Re: 1994 Talon TSi
First order of business. Move the battery to the trunk. Leaves a ton of extra room. Eliminate the cruise control by getting a non cruise control throttle cable (if not already done)
eliminate the A/C. Very easy to do. You may want to pull the motor, it makes it a lot easier to pull the firewall stuff. and clean up the engine bay. The cleanest ive ever gotten mine was when i pulled the motor, cleaned everything up, then repainted the engine bay, and put everything in. |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
You have some fun looking toys there! I'm looking forward to seeing how all your hard work is going to turn out!
|
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
I should have mentioned, A/C is already removed, cruise also. I really don't want to turn this into more work than it has to be, I'm not looking for a fully tucked and shaved engine bay, just something cleaner than it is. Hopefully something that looks about like twack/123abc/4g63tcrazy's cars. I am not relocating any fuse boxes either, I don't want to remove fenders just to swap a fuse.
The fuse by the driver side corner (top right in the 1st pic of post #62) looks like it is all for A/C stuff, can I just rip that whole thing out? |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Maybe the coolant in the FMIC was someones idea of a air-water i/c setup :) Why aren't there any pics of you working?
|
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Nice work and pics.
But lets get to teh important shit, how big of a shot are you running? How long u been doing it? |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
^From the looks of the coolant in the i/c, I would guess he is pushing enough juice to tear the diamond plating off of his floor boards.
|
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Damn, that sucks about the exhaust mani studs. Looks like you're making some damn good progress on it though!
Think she will be ready to go come spring? |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Just take out the upper fuse box it unplugs from the bottom it is just for the a/c
Also take out the fuel noids next to it. Cut the top 1/2 off the power stearing bracket and cut the upper engine mount. (I have it done on both the talon and the wifes hatch) makes it look a lot cleaner |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
ya thats all ac stuff up in the corner. cut the wires and turn the grommet inside out to hide everything and the hole. did you see if there was a crack or soemthing wrong with the throttle body to see if that was leaking coolant?
|
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
I agree with removing that fuse box, and the solenoids right next to it on the firewall. Also if there is anything remaining from the emissions system under the battery, remove all of it and just tuck the battery down in there. A lot easier than relocating to the trunk, and really cleans things up.
Also, is that mess on the passenger side ABS? Get rid of that crap!! |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
I'll reply for Mike.
nope, no pictures of him working, my hands were too dirty to use the camera. I like the idea of just dropping the battery to the K member, no need for a shut off switch. What all is needed to eliminate the abs setup? And he isn't putting any nitrous to the car yet. It is all plumbed in for it, but just not being used. I wish he had gotten a good picture of the puddle of coolant on the closed intake valve... |

Where exactly do I cut the engine and power steering mounts? Anyone have pics? Quote:

Here's the plan for the ABS. I have all the tools to bend my own lines, I am going to order a non-ABS proportioning valve today. What size and length lines do I need and what kind of fittings? to finish the job? I assume I can't just start cutting into the high pressure lines too, so how should I relieve the pressure? |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
I say eff that nitrous kit, that's what blew up the perfectly-running 7-bolt that was in it when I sold this car to that retarded Iowa guy.
I say just put the battery down on the k-member, looks way clean, esp once you get that SMIM on there, it'll all 'just work.' Might wanna look at Kevin's car as an example too, nice setup imho. |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Oh, and I say do delete the ABS, IIRC I yanked the fuse on it anyways when I had that car because it worked like junk on 1G's.
