I didn't read the whole thread.. but get over yourself. That isn't that bad of luck, that is CARS in general. We all have our own issues with them, and they all suck just the same. Boo fricken who. |
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
Check your compression yet??
|
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
could be the size of the turbo/mani runners, the 3" ic pipe, the q45, the jmf mani, etc. I dunno. I'm also on a 2.0l, not your fancy shmancy stroker..lol
|
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
could it be your cam angle sensor (or position sensor)?
|
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
tried swapping those..I don't think i've tried a black top, but I can't see how that would really effect it much (between the two)
|
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
to me it seem like something is not gettting enough signal at 8k, try a black top....just my 2 cents
|
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
just throw a 100 shot direct into it, maybe it might just sputter past 7500! If that doesn't work, try a 200 shot!

Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
whats the duty cycle you are running your injectors to?
|
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
about 70%. We think the filter is starting to clog up, as pressure is dropping up top. I can't imagine I'm running out of fuel with my "overkill fuel pump setup".

Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
i wouldnt think so either, and thanks nite i forgot about the free rev thing.....how many grounds do you have? and where?
|
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
What filter are you using?
I'm using a Golan, and am keeping a close eye on it because I've heard of them failing under high boost. |

The car has an almost stutterbox sounding cut out that always hits at 7850-7900 RPMs. When it does it, the car loads up on fuel and runs like shit for a while until all the fuel clears out. Very weird. It isn't a plug or gap issue. It's too bad since the car was flawless on the dyno mechanically. No oil sprarying all over, no coolant blowing out, rock solid coolant temps, no I/C pipes blowing off. His car seemed to move out pretty quick on the freeway though, it would walk away from me until he hit revlimiter or the cut out problem. DSMLink with a stock ignition setup would make things a lot easier. I don't think anyone should run an AEM EMS on these cars, unless they need to run 8 injectors. And if stock igntion can make 1000whp, then why put on a COP system that don't work right 75% of the time. |
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
I sorta wanna test a black top and a stock ignition setup, just to compare. I know that COP works though, it's been proven, and on paper should be better..so why does this shit suck? use all 4 channels on the msd? I dunno.
Sorry for "swerving" a bit shane..the car is rather loose under boost. As I'm sure you heard..the car doesn't like to downshift to 3rd..and sit there at a higher rpm..it bucks sputters etc..then you floor it and it does the same..THEN cleans up and goes..it kinda sucks.. -A. Swift |
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
BTW, I can't thank enough to everyone that's helped me. Shane, Josh, John..etc. You guys have helped it get to the point it's at today..if that means anything.
-A. Swift |
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
I would let you borrow my Link setup and stock ignition setup for a day if it helped you troubleshoot your issues Swifty. But I think you're on SD which it really won't support.
I am jealous that you don't have coolant issues :( I keep a cup in the car now for emptying out my overflow, and refilling the system. |
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
Do what Shane and others have said, ditch COP and maybe AEM. Link should be a lot easier to work with too. Also smaller turbo and bam, problems fixed?
|
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
The COP systems you usually see on DSMs are cheap junk is the problem. You need good coils and a real CDI behind it like an M&W box. And why do COP if it's still going to run wasted spark. Every DSM COP setup I have had here at the shop has had very sketchy wires running to the coils also. Look at Curt Brown's last adventure to th dyno with a COP on the car.
|
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
I would like to thank John for coming by also. He is a great guy to have car problems with.
|
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
maybe it's time i bite the bullet and ditch these 2.7l dodge intrepid coils and get that 300m buschnuts setup..arg.
How can a good ignition company such as MSD suck for dsm's? I don't get it. -A. Swift |
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
Just mount the stock coilpack under the manifold where the AC compressor used to be and it will look just as clean. I don't understand the need for COP.
Congrats on making lots of power though. |
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
cop is way cleaner, and I know if it's set up right IS BETTER. And, I can't do that..alt is back there.
|
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
Who cares, are you planning to win shows?? Might want to fix the paint issue on the outside first.. thats a bigger issue over a couple wires exposed.
|
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
MSD is not a good ignition company. They are the WORST. The DIS boxes fail constantly on every kind of car. The circle track guys will wire in 2 6ALs in case one fails during a race.
|
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
hmm...crap. What do you suggest shane, as I did try a STOCK setup last year. What is this other box you speak of?

Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
Those Sparktech setups are nice on the Evos, they use an M&W box.
|
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
craig had nothing but problems with is talon with the dis box and brand new cop coils he got from work. the box did not work right and just went out one day. so we put the stock coils back on and got a set of taylor 10.4 wires for it. That fixed his problem he was have it was the same thing that your car is doing.
I would ditch the msd, cop, aem. and go with wires and oem coil and dsmlink |
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
I think you should ditch the COP setup swifty. You have like 8 votes to your 1 vote by yourself suggesting it. You never know, it could be the whole problem. And like Peter said, if your worried about looks you should be focusing on getting your body fixed before you worry about having 4 plug wires under your hood.
|
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
That's not what I'm concerned about. I know they work. It's the fact that WE TESTED A STOCK IGNITION AND IT DIDN"T WORK!
|
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
just food for thought
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newb...l-results.html anyone tried that ignition? |
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
But I thought that's when you had grounding issues. As Josh said, you've checked those things off and not ever coming back to them. Maybe there were two issues, and you've fixed just one.

shane, wanna revisit the dyno, and try out a stock ignition setup, if I can find one? I wanna put this fucking crap to rest.
-A. Swift |
Re: Will my fricken' luck ever change?
I have two separate sets of good wires you can use, Taylor (RED, they match!) and stock mitsu. I'll bring them to Minneapolis next weekend if you haven't tested anything by then. I don't have a spare coil pack anymore though, I'm sure someone does.
