The car runs great and rides nice. As long as he can nip that cancer in the bud it'll end up being a great car.

Someone needs to sign up the car the the dyno day, so they can base line it.

Congrats!! For some reason I still just cant see you driving an X. haha

Someone already dyno'd it :) I asked shane to verify the motor was healthy, and this was the first thing he thought of: toss it on the rollers, throw a few tweaks at it and see how it responds. His only comment was, 'it needs more mods!' LOL

red is pull #1, green is pull #3 after exactly two changes to the fuel map and a few other spots to see how she responded.

If you compare this to murlo's baseline, it's pretty much spot on:
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25695

Needs a testpipe and some sort of an intake, but I cannot decide wtf I want, almost everything seems to have some sort of compromise. Need to sell more stuff before I can do anything, so I got time to decide :)

I've made a few friends along the way and so far things are looking bright for getting the bodywork done, rims fixed, and interior completed. Give me a few weeks, hopefully I'll have made some progress.

Gotta take it to the dealer first though to get some issues sorted.

Afraid I had the same thought...I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, but the uicp doesn't look that good from the photos. I'm surprised that people would do that when UR makes good looking stuff for pretty cheap.

It actually doesn't look too bad. I took some close-up pics of the exhaust yesterday morning and decided that while it's not ideal, it is decent, and best of all it is FREE! I'll be sticking with this catback for a while.

Aside from the rusty welds, the UICP looks decent. Bling ain't everything you know :) I'll take it off for the trip to the dealer, and bring it by primo while its off.

Murlo26 05-03-2010 10:51 AM

Re: Scheides' New Beater

honestly i didn't think the car was too bad personally. I think it was a great pickup. Just needs some tuning/mod love.

Then a good clay bar/waxing!

Thanks man! I washed it last night, holy crap do the imperfections jump out now. Friday it was covered in rain/dirt so it covered them up quite a bit.

Aaaand the car just puked out all of its power steering fluid. GREAT! Looks like its coming from the nose somewhere, on the cooling line. Boo.

Suck!

scheides 05-03-2010 01:31 PM

Re: Scheides' New Beater

omg this is kinda unbelievable. The hose clamp on the coupler that attaches to the FMIC was kinda sticking out and rubbing on the power steering cooling loop tube...and wore a hole in it. Unreal.

Re: Scheides' New Beater

man, for the paint condition, curbed wheels, and now the PS leaks? What other issues will rear their ugly heads!? This just doesn't seem to be promising to me..but, hopefully knowing you, you'll resurrect her from ashes.

Dang that sucks! Should be an easy fix but still. :/

Luckily scheides has the know-how to deal with any minor problem. There's a reason I went with a brand-new X...all of those little things cost a mint to have somebody else fix.

Re: Scheides' New Beater

^ lol... Paying someone to fix easy jobs like that is kinda sad.

40k over 25k. Easy decision for me.

At least it will be a easy fix.

Low 30's unless you're buying an MR. My car had every option for 34.

scheides 05-03-2010 02:43 PM

Re: Scheides' New Beater

I bent the offending part of the hose clamp back a bit, its a tight spot so some JBweld and post-it notes will have to do for now. There's a napa very near my office, hopefully this holds together.

Know how and the tools to do something are two very different things.

There are jobs that I did on my X that would've been cheaper to pay someone to do it because of the tools i had to buy.

You pay for everything with either time/money. No way around that. Some people prefer to spend their free time not wrenching on cars. If i had unlimited tools i would do a lot of stuff myself. I love working on cars.

I park in a ramp. I can get away with a few things, but not much. I wasn't thinking about having a car hobby when I bought the condo.
