I thought kiggly loved that motor? I remember him posting about a turbo 2zz he built that made good power.

Re: Evo- no more?

They just leave something to be desired to me. Limited modding/tuning options, weird power band, lots of failures do to clogged cats(not really the engines fault), can't hold too much power. I dunno, reminds me of an old GSR motor with poorly mismatched cams/headwork/parts on it. The K-series swap is common on those cars, so you have all the Honda parts for it available and Honda tuning systems, and it is one of the best 4 cylinder motor ever made.

Not that you couldn't just leave the thing stock and have all kinds of fun.

On a drag strip? I couldn't care less.

They weigh 2100 lbs so you don't need an Evo motor in them.

What about the fact that they're driven by wankers.

Idk about you, but I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I did this.

Re: Evo- no more?

Yea thats true, I couldnt either for a street car, a pure track car its possible though since no one could see me with a helmet on. haha

They are fast. A Spec Miata would be a fun car. Your price guess is 3-4x off but still half the price of a Lotus.

I didnt mean a new miata, I meant an old 90s. haha

A Spec Miata is an older Miata with a specific set of upgrades. The stock models would really blow on a track. They don't have a Mini's suspension--another capable car that is reasonably priced.

The Lotus looks like a Lotus and is reputed to have an amazing chassis/steering feel. Stock it is 220hp and the swaps usually take them up to 280. Supposed to be pretty sweet when upgraded. It'd be plenty of car for me, stock. That's what I want in my next car...something that doesn't need any mods for what I'm looking for.

Re: Evo- no more?

Just to stir the pot, they are starting to extract good N/A power out of the 2zz these days:

http://www.ddperformanceresearch.com...ax_numbers.jpg

I think that's fantastic out of a street driven non-turbo 1.8 liter

In a 2k lb car, with good gearing, that would fly!

I'm surprised that's N/A but it should be easy to get that on an S model--they have underdrive pulley kits and some basic mods to bump them up there. Shane's right that your options for really big power is limited but the power/weight ratio is better than a stock turbo Evo and the handling and aero are on another level.

New boosted 2zz record set:

I know it's not end-all power these days, but it should scoot in lightweight lotus

According to Don Herring the next Evo will be a 2014 model and based on the new Colt chassis i.e. no more Lancer Evolution.

Only time will tell...

Thats some pretty impressive power but I think it looks like a crazy power band and crazy power because the graph starts at 5k...

He said this in the word he's gotten from Mitsu, as for physical documents I haven't seen any. He's the #2 Evo dealer in the country (behind Southcoast) so maybe he has a decent inside line to what's happening?

He also said the rumors of it being a gasoline/electric hybrid are beginning to sound more serious, especially with Mitsu's new commitment to electric cars.

Re: Evo- no more?

So basically the evo is dead..

Kracka 03-18-2011 09:43 AM

Re: Evo- no more?

Depends on how they lay it out I suppose. If they use electric for low-end torque and gasoline (+boost?) for top-end horsepower, and make it a nice seamless transition, it may actually be ok. I'm just afraid of the cost though, the Evo is already expensive enough.

Super Bleeder!! 03-18-2011 10:31 AM

Re: Evo- no more?

Everyone said the Evo was dead after mitsu announced the X would have an aluminum engine as well as being heavier and more luxurious, but they pulled it off didnt they?

Lets wait and judge the next evo after its actually released.

dzuest 03-19-2011 09:36 PM

Re: Evo- no more?

Yeah i guess it all depends on how they set it up.. Remember that MIEV Evo IX they had... had the Electric motors in all four wheels. They put that thing in a rally and it didn't do too bad. From the outside it look just like an EVO IX..

I think it was only capable of like 110 MPH, But it had 250hp and like 350tq. Haven't heard much of it lately though.. they probably scrapped it.
