Yes you use the brake switch because it reacts faster then the speed sensor. then you actually use the anti lag feture to pull enuf timing that you dont blow through the brakes at the line. when you let off the brake pedal timeing instantly comes back on and off you go.

Re: Carl's 98 auto AWD project Black Magic

Nice! I'll have to look into that. I heard the autos pull timing, and you can switch to a 5 spd. ecu but I thought that was a 1G issue only.

I forgot about doing that, I'm gonna wait till I can actually make some consistent track visits or get time to work on the car.

Yeah I wasnt planning on doing it but the relay was still there from before. Just had to run a wire up to the brake pedal and plug it in. Thanks Todd

I was planning on haveing the turbo in today after work but my gasket kit didnt come in yet.

Re: Carl's 98 auto AWD project Black Magic

Had the whole day to my self today so I got alot done and it is almost ready for the road. I got the turbo installed Tursday after work , and got the FMIC mounted up last night. I spent most of today Swapping in my HSK 272 cams and installing MAPerformance High performance Head studs. Both wen in better then I exspected.

I still need to finish plumbing the intercooler. And I am picking up a radiator (mine started leaking) and 1000cc injectors from TKR on monday

Nice work. What method u use to switch cams?

The good old leave the belt on and pull the gears off? or the whole T-belt job way?

I had adj cam gears so the whole T-belt way. I kept the old belt so I just marked the belt where the notches were on the cam gears and marked the crank pully so lineing everything up was easy.

Re: Carl's 98 auto AWD project Black Magic

I got the car out on the road today on stock injectors and wastgate pressure . Over all everything seams to be working good. I still need to do a boost leak check since spool seams a little slow and boostest in link is about 5psi high. So I'll probly pick up a 2.25" cap for the turbo this week and do that before I do mutch else. Full line pressure shifts are working good. wideband and gauge are functioning like they should. car is running pig rich on stock maps right now so the car feels prety slow compaired to what I'm used to but already better then the t25 with ALOT left in it.

Injectors , E85 and 30PSI to come.

It is awesome. Even at wastgate pressure the car is fun to drive.

I did a boost leak test after work and found and fixed alot of leaks. Aparently some of the T-bolt clamps I got with the FMIC were to big for the pipeing. I knew they were all the way tight but I thiought they would seal. I thought wrong. I had 3 leaks at couplers. Got those fixed alog with a new O-ring on the biss screw. I think it should be alot better now. I dont know If I'll get the car out for a test run tonight or not.

Re: Carl's 98 auto AWD project Black Magic

I took the car to run a few erands this afternoon. The car drives amazing. idles dead on no surge very good street manors. I did a few WOT pulls at wastgate pressure and the car pulls pretty good and shifts firm. I did notice that the car needed to be completly floored to downshift and that the loged TPS in link was only around 90%. so when I got home I adjusted the TPS per dsmlink directions and I now get a true 100% TPS now so hopefully it wil kick down a little easer now. The stock injectors are completly maxed even at wastgate pressure so I will be picking up some 1000cc or bigger injectors and adding some E85 soon.

I'm sure I'll be out that way. Aarons always trying to get me out there too. I think this car will do more cruising then the old one.

I always forget to add to my other updateds that the AC blows Ice cold too. A must have for a black car with leather interior.

That won't be too hard, just don't dig too far into this one!

Re: Carl's 98 auto AWD project Black Magic

Its been a wile since I've updated. Over the last month Ive just been driveing the car on nice days makeing sure everything is good to go. Ive found a few minor things to fix but over all its been good.

Last night I installed some FIC 1050cc injectors and got them close to dialed in. They still need a little fine tuneng at Idle but thats been hard to do because my front o2 is a little lazy. I will be installing a translab shift kit and Alto end clutch kit after I get back from boost for boobies tonight. I also bought a used set of Eibach prokits on KYB AGX struts that will go in once they arive.

After I get a good base tune on pump gas I will start tuning on E85 and we'll see what this setup really has in it.

That would be awsome. I'm hopeing for 11.99.

The car ran awsome to and from boost for boobies. The injectors are dialed in good and the car is pulling pretty hard at 20 psi.

Re: Carl's 98 auto AWD project Black Magic

11.99 is easy, even if was a 5 spd.

I figured it was time to update this since I have some track results.

The car went 11.842 @ 116 at Proving Grounds. It is very consistant running 4 11.8's on sunday cutting 1.7 60ft on 18" street radials

It was a blast compeating in the stock apearing class. The car just needs a little more to be very competitive in that class.

Future mods will be Rebuilt 1G throttle body, evo3 intake, more efficient FMIC and a VW brake vacume pump. I"d also like to do a little weight reduction the car weighs 3220.

Since the last update Ive added
translab shift kit
ALTO red eagle end clutch
Eibach Pro Kit lowering springs
Tuned the car on E85 @ 30psi

Re: Carl's 98 auto AWD project Black Magic

Well, I had some minor upgrades planed. But they will have to take the back burner. Yesterday my tranny started acting up. Delayed reverse and major flare shifting into 3rd. I was hopeing it was just a TCU issue so I changed my settings so that I would have full line pressure full time and kept heading to work. After work I stoped by TKR's and picked up a 1g Throttle body (one of my planed minor upgrades) After leaving there the problems just got worse. The TCU was in limp mode so I stoped and reset it and kept heading tward home. By the time I got home the tranny was slipping very badly and trans temps were climbing higher then I have ever seen them.

So at this point in time I think my trans is in need of a full rebuild with some of the standard upgrades. I am priceing a few things out right now and will update with my future plans.

If anyone has a 2G AWD Auto Trans for sale let me know. I wouild really like to get the car back on the road and to the track again this season.

3rd and OD have always had a little flare so I'm not really suprised buy it. I always just blew it off as the TCU trying to shift "smoothly"

I challanged Swifty but we never drove our cars on the same day so it never happened. But I really wanted to do it. I also Challanged Ryans camaro and a older style supra from work with nothing happening but talk. I have to get mine back together and end the talk.

I Took my transmission apart today. I found pretty mutch what I exspected. The front clutch pack was totaly burnt out. So I will be ordering up a master rebuild kit, kickdown band, and Kiggly 5-friction front clutch kit tonight. I am still hopeing to get back to the track this season.

I have attached pics of the front clutch disks there is literaly no linieng left on it. 2nd pic is burnt disk comaired to a good one,

on a side note I rode in Swiftys car last weekend and HOLY SHIT! if that thing got traction it would be unreal.

turbotalon1g 08-16-2012 05:42 PM

Re: Carl's 98 auto AWD project Black Magic

Have you never heard of a supra? They are kinda known for not having traction or at least owners that just want big power and have no idea of what to do for traction.

Shane has a low mile trans for sale....
