Re: My Newest project....
How much are you looking to spend on a turbo?
|
Re: My Newest project....
Ya know. I am not sure. I have been looking at turbos that range 300-600. I would like to keep it closer to the 300 if possible. But I know that limits what I can look at.
Really, I guess right now I am just looking for something to get the car running and driving. But I would hate to buy two turbos. One now, than one down the road. And I have been trying to read up on turbos for the DSM's. But still trying to learn on that stuff. I found a couple 16g's on tooners, and also a PTE GT3255bolt on turbo. But couldn't find much info on it. Like I said there is a bunch of options out there. I am just unsure of what will fit my application. |
Re: My Newest project....
Well..did a little work tonight seems as how I had some spare time. I finished cleaning the old gasket off the front case. Installed the BSE and reassembled the oil pump. I also installed the ARP main studs tonight that way I can take it back to the machine shop tomorrow. Hopefully they wont have it long. I guess I will find out what his work schedule is and go from there.

Re: My Newest project....
Good choice on getting it checked out after the main studs. Better safe than sorry.
Bolt on MHI turbos are going to be more in your price range. Could also look for a T28, which should be able to net you your 300hp through a FWD. However, I believe they are a little harder to find, compared to 16g's. |
Re: My Newest project....
Well. Got a couple packages in the mail today. Got my DSM Link and my complete gasket set.
So tonight I socketed the ECU and installed the chip. And now I am just waiting on the motor again. I have never spent so much for something so small. lol http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/v...psb1858dc1.jpg And installed. http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/v...ps32ea2351.jpg Cant wait to start getting stuff back together. |
Re: My Newest project....
Well. Picked up my block from the machine shop today. He said he had to do very little to no work on it, but did run the hone through it lightly to make sure.
So when I got it back I started moving everything to my house. I was using my buddy's garage. But it gets to dang dusty to assemble my motor there. So i brought it home to my little work space lol. http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/v...ps588d867a.jpg Its a tiny closet in the bathroom. lol. But it works good. Clean, nobody messing with it. and its got its own door. lol. All I did tonight was put the crank in. Got everything assembled and it looks good. Spins real nice. http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/v...ps7e0902be.jpg Hopefully will get a ring compressor tomorrow and get the pistons installed. |
Re: My Newest project....
Nice, good work. Gotta do what you gotta do sometimes.
|
Re: My Newest project....
Well. Did some more work tonight. Got most of the short block assembled. Not gotta order head studs, timing belt kit, and water pump.
I also picked up a Greddy18G with the Mitsu housing on it. It was rebuilt so hopefully I wont have any issues with it. http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/v...ps86fc6500.jpg http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/v...ps5ca1fa6a.jpg |
Re: My Newest project....
looks good!
|
Re: My Newest project....
Came home at lunch to some boxes sitting on the porch lol. Got my OFH, non cruise cable, engine bay wiring harness and injectors.
So I couldn't wait, I put on the OFH. Took like 2 min. lol. When I ordered it from JNZ I got it with new gasket and bolts, so it was easy. http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/v...psab0f93a2.jpg Now o get back to work. Sadly. lol |
Re: My Newest project....
Thats awesome, during lunch break haha
|
Re: My Newest project....
Well...Spent most the day cleaning up the eclipse seems as how it was nice out. Got alot to do before dropping the motor in. But when I came home I had a package sitting outside.
It was my new to me turbo. lol. Greddy 18g with the Mistu housing with a fresh rebuild. http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/v...pse369d5ed.jpg http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/v...ps0b037d5e.jpg I gotta redo the wastegate bracket. I dont know why but someone welded some washers to it to space it out. Now just gotta finish putting together a parts list for the rest of the fuel system upgrades. |
Re: My Newest project....
Does anyone have any suggestions on a new fuel pump for my 2g. I was planning on getting the same old Walbro that I always have. But was wondering if there was anything out there that was better for about the same price.
I have been trying to search but i must not be using the right search terms cause I dont find much. |
Re: My Newest project....
For that turbo, I'd just rock a 255hp as it's more than enough to support that (giving you room to grow), and is still one of the cheaper options out there for a brand new pump.

Re: My Newest project....
So tonight I went and picked up the head out of my car that way I could clean it up and see if it needed any work.
I was hoping to just have it cleaned up at the machine shop, but it dont look so good. The intake cam is rusted. The rockers dont look good. But I believe if I just soak them in something they will be ok. However, when I flipped the head over the one cylinder dont look good. The rest are carbon'd up pretty good. But the one has some rust on it. I was hoping not to rebuild the head as I really didn't plan on it in the budget. But tell me what you guys think. http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/v...ps394aa517.jpg http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/v...ps57224929.jpg I am hoping I can save it without to much work. If I have to I will rebuild, or maybe find a good one for cheap. I dunno. |
Re: My Newest project....
looks tough :/

I am gonna pull the valves on that cylinder and see how it looks. Hopefully its not to bad. |
Re: My Newest project....
So I am trying to get a few things squared away with my fuel system. Running the Evo 560's will I need to get an AFPR? I know I will need to get one if I get the Walbro 255.
I was hoping that I could at least get the car running and driving for break in on the stock pump and regulator. This head being in rough shape kinda threw me off. So if I can run stock pump and FPR it would give me the extra money to get either a new head or rebuild this one. |
Re: My Newest project....
Youre going to be on pump gas right?
|
Re: My Newest project....
considering he's only running 560cc injectors I think it's safe to assume he will be running pump gas.
As for running the stock pump and fpr you should be able to get by for a little bit for break in. you can adjust for the 560's with link so things will run okay but I would keep boost low until you can get a walbro 255 |
Re: My Newest project....
Who built the turbo? That's an eBay turbine housing on it. I would just run a Walbro 255, that will be plenty for the 18g. That head does indeed look rough as is, will you be sending it out to get cleaned up and checked out? It may be fine underneath all that carbon and rust.
|
Re: My Newest project....
Why do you say its an ebay turbine housing?
I had the info from the guy on tuners on who had rebuilt it..but i cant find it anywhere..but you saying its an ebay housing kinda makes sense. That would explain why someone welded spacers onto the wastegate bracket. As far as the head goes...its more than just what i have in the pictures. Cams are rusted, rockers look horrid, and i dont even wanna know what kind shape the lifters are in. But i got a buddy that has a complete 7 bolt head that he was gonna sell me. So i just planed on doing that than eventually completely rebuilding this other one |
Re: My Newest project....

And i def plan on keeping boost low. I am hoping that the wastegate is around 10 psi. Ive been trying to find out exactly how low the wastegate is set but i get different answers all over the place. |

If you have limited funds, find a cheap stock head in good condition and run a smallish fuel pump on whatever injectors you want. The injectors have nothing to do with if you need to run an aftermarket FPR. If you decide to run a 255 right away, the pump could overrun the stock regulator and you'll get a bit of extra fuel at idle, but nothing that will ruin your motor. If you have to decide between a head or regulator, buy the head and just run a stock regulator for now. |
Re: My Newest project....
I thought the price might be a bit much on the head but he wont budge on the price. And i havent been able to find one somewhere else. There is a guy on tuners selling some but he wants $150 for them.

So on the head situation, a guy on tuners has one, $150 plus shipping. And its complete minus valve cover. He sent pics and it looks good. I found another one, supposedly great shape, $225 shipped. I dont know what to do cause I dont wanna over pay, but I dont have much time to think on it. |
Re: My Newest project....
Well. I found a head for cheaper. Another friend had one laying around as he 6 bolt swapped his 2g.
Also, I finally got rid of my beater civic, and my non running stratus so I was able to order a 255 pump and AFPR. So for now the fuel setup is taken care of. Now I am just playing the waiting game. Waiting on parts from all over. lol. Hopefully soon I will have something. |
Re: My Newest project....
Thats awesome 2 cars for a pump and afpr ahaha i love us car guys
|
Re: My Newest project....
Yeah. And its not like i got rid of good cars lol. The stratus was the one I posted about not running. The civic was gonna be a fun car. But it had major rust issues. So it had to go lol.

Re: My Newest project....
Well. Started to get some parts at the house so I figured I would get some work done. First I had to go over to my buddy's garage and redo the steering column wiring on his 69 dodge pickup. So once I got that done we pushed the eclipse back in.
I quickly started getting parts off the car. Took both fenders off, hood off, pulled carpet out. I hate seeing that this was a black car and had such a shitty paint job done on it. http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/v...ps10823ec2.jpg I also wanted to get one thing done while I had nothing in the way. So I welded up the trans mount I got from Fejery4491..he was awesome enough to go out, cut off the one on his parts car and send it to me. http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/v...ps1bb7fde2.jpg So I am gonna let that sit tonight. Than tomorrow I will run the new to me engine bay harness I got. And hopefully get the ecu in and floor pans cleaned up. |
Re: My Newest project....
any plans to repaint car? sorry dont know if you've stated that in the thread already lol
|

As for right now. we are going to sand down the car and just shoot a quick sealer primer over it. The paint booth at work is tied up for the next couple months. So I gotta wait. |
Re: My Newest project....
You're doing an awesome job bringing this car back!
|
Re: My Newest project....
Nice, it should be badass when all done
|
Re: My Newest project....
Glad to see that trans mount in there! Glad I was able to help. Car looks great, keep up the good work!
|
Re: My Newest project....
Thanks for the compliments guys. I only wish I could bring this car to a level of some of the builds I see on here. I envy some of the work you guys do.
But sadly, I still have a lot to learn on some things, so i do what I can. And when I hit a road block, i just get on here to look through the builds to get some more motivation. |
Re: My Newest project....
We all can learn more man, if I had a dime for everytime I wanted to throw a wrench at the evo...
|
Re: My Newest project....
Well..Got the engine and all the parts over to the garage tonight. Now hopefully I will have the energy to get some things together soon. I am probably gonna wait till this weekend to get parts on. But we will see.
|
Re: My Newest project....
Well..Finally got some time to work on the car a bit today. First off I assembled most of my intake. Still gotta find my throttle body. I know I had one lay with the rest of the parts, but all I can find is my 1g one.
http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/v...ps9bddd185.jpg I think it looks ok. I also started running the engine bay wiring harness that I got. And I also received my head today. So now I should be starting to get alot done. |
