Re: Getting serious about a FMIC, need options...
I just checked, and SLS's 2G kit is only $700 and that includes everything you need.

I agree with Chris, I don't think you can go wrong with the SLS kit for that cheap. I didn't realise they were so cheap now!
|
Re: Getting serious about a FMIC, need options...
I like how the big GReddy kit looks, and it should be really easy to install. If you can find a used one for $400 like stated above go that route, otherwise that SLS is looking good.
|
Re: Getting serious about a FMIC, need options...
Ya know, there are so damn many FMIC kits out there that it really makes choosing hard, obviously. The SLS kits look good, but so does the SBR/Kinetic kit, as well as the Dv/Dt, but then there's the Buschur kit. What about the JR cores on eBay and fabbing your own piping? JR's cores have been receiving great reviews by people. It's all where you want to spend your $$$....

Re: Getting serious about a FMIC, need options...
Check this "total complete install kit" for 1 OR 2 G's for $480.00 off "tunerz" here:
http://www.dsmtuners.com/classifieds...1&cat=7&page=1 More pics here: http://www.clubmitsubishi.com/cool.htm Unless it's a total piece of crap, you can't go wrong you'd think??? |
Re: Getting serious about a FMIC, need options...
That is a fairly cheap looking kit to me plus doesn't even including piping all the way to the throttle body. I'd spend the extra $220 for the SLS kit since with that cheap one you'd still need to buy a hard UICP.

Guess the REAL advantage of going with SLS, in my case, is their reputation of not selling crap! |

I'm getting REAL serious about this unit here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=42610 Any objections? TIA.......... |
Re: Getting serious about a FMIC, need options...
2 1/4" LICP is the only real problem. You could have one installed for the same price from a local shop too, with 2.5" SS piping. :D

Thats pretty how the style of mine is with the pipe routing. I like it. It WILL allow you to keep your fogs too. |
Re: Getting serious about a FMIC, need options...
Oh yeah, that will be long route piping so you need to upgrade the upper and lower stock pipes also.
|
Re: Getting serious about a FMIC, need options...
I like that GReddy, get it!

Re: Getting serious about a FMIC, need options...
Do plan on installing this yourself? Last I remember, you had QPR install an EGT gauge for you. If that is the case, I think a FMIC is a bit over your head. It is not difficult, just a little more time consuming. I have installed several FMICs and I would never take on a custom unit yet (welder will be up soon though...). You would have to find out how the IC will fit, weld mounting brackets on the IC, and then worry about the piping. I would go with a gready kit as even ghettostyle could install it. The kits are made and guarenteed to fit. Unless you have an experienced shop or person do it for you, it will probly look like a hack job. Call Mike if you want custom, order a kit otherwise. Just my opinion.

QPR did NOT install a EGT " gauge for me, <come'on I'm not THAT Lame>, instead of risking metal shavings floating around in my turbo, due to a on car tap for the EGT probe, I was advised to have the entire manifold removed so Mike could install and weld in the EGT probes real female insert, as well as do a factory look cut to the heat shield. They also replaced a missing turbo gasket, that was a hidden issue. QPR Tapped the manifold very professionaly for me, I then "installed the gauge" However to your point I am not a welder, machinist, nor even a GOOD wrench, I do what I can when I can and only when I feel it's not too far over my head. Not that my car is the fastest or "blingyist" at all, BUT it still is the nicest "thing" I've ever owned, and being that I paid $11,000 for it, am still making payments, I'm certainly not ashamed of hiring a pro to help me out when I don't understand it vs totaly fucking it up! That is also why this cars "uptime" has been 99+%, where alot of "tinkerers" and dare I say HACKS have been "down" too often with some serious issues. It's always been a fine line between stretching out, and "Doing it yourself" to learn, and just digging in and fucking it up to "burn". I maybe a bit gun shy, but I'll also be out on the street tonight, doing what I like best, DRIVING, and not in my garage with my head in my hands crying about my damm car! <Hope not anyways, as I'm doing a oil change today, guess "something" could go wrong? Oh wait, Now I'm afraid, is QPR open to do oil changes? JUST KIDDING!> Please Excuse the rant......:-> I will however think seriously about the Greddy kit..... |
Re: Getting serious about a FMIC, need options...
That would be a large no on the oil change thing :) Most anyone is capable of doing decent work. Just take your time, pay attention to detail and don't skimp on things that will bite you later and I know it will come out fine. As far as kits go, the SLS is a great deal. The ebay one will work as well. If cost is also a big issue, JET could probably hook you up as well pretty reasonable for custom and install.

Re: Getting serious about a FMIC, need options...
If you get the greddy kit, you would need to reuse your upper i/c pipe and you might need to modify the bottom i/c pipe a little for the 16g. It was easy for me to install with no big problems or anything.

Re: Getting serious about a FMIC, need options...
After digging around here for days, think I may have found it!
http://www.extremeintercoolers.com/2g_7_kits.htm This kit is 100% COMPLETE, has a nice core, is cheaper and requires very little bumper hacking! Thanks to all for the feedback. Going as "plug and play <not pray!>" as possible with this project! |
Re: Getting serious about a FMIC, need options...

Thanks for the interest in our 2g dsm kit , Our will be as close to a bolt on affair as any FMIC kit can be for the 2g. It comes with full pictorial instructions , and will not require any welding or metal cutting. You will have to remove the power steering cooler , and there is some splash guard , and bumper cover cutting , and thats it !! The hardest part of the install is getting the bumper off in the first place. I will highlight some thing that set our kit apart from the rest: 1. Our J pipe clears BOTH stock fans 2. Foglights stay on 97 up 3. Short route piping , without cutting the core support 4. 2.5 piping all the way to T/B Elbow , replaces all piping 5. Our 25" wide core fill the whole grill with core ( killer loook ) 6. Modular Design , 1 pipe upgrades you to t3/t4 7. No bumper cutting with 7" kit 8. Full Pictorial Instuctions and freidly Service !! The bottom line , is that our kit will be the easiest to install , you will have to cut some plastic , but no metal , Thanks JR Perrott ETS 360 263 3748 call us any time Sounds like a plan! |

Re: Getting serious about a FMIC, need options...
Just got my Eagle Summit running, as plan B, so I don't have to rush the install and I still get to work each day.
I still need to run it buy "high command", <my wife>, but being that it's cheaper than many other install options, it should sell. Any advise on tearing off the front bumper? TIA..... |

Re: Getting serious about a FMIC, need options...
The trick to getting a 2G front cover off is to undo the bolts that hold the fiberglass bumper's supports, not the part that connects to the fiberglass bumper, but the bolts that connect the metal supports to the chassis. There are 2 17mm(I think) bolts on each side. Then you can just do the 5 10mm bolts along the top where it meets the hood, get the plastic fender well splash covers out of the way and do the 2 10mm bolts on each side of the car holding the front bumper cover on, then either undo all the plastic rivets in the from air dams or just cut the plastic since it isn't going back in anyways. Then you can pull the whole front cover and bumper off as one piece, and those annoying lower bolts under the headlights are easy to get at off the car.

Re: Getting serious about a FMIC, need options...
did you already buy the kit? If you are still shopping, I found this on the vendors-reviewed site...

If you look at this picture and see the around 1.5" x 1.5" square holes in the frame on each side of the intercooler, that is where the bumper supports I am talking about slide into. So if you follow those holes back underneath the car maybe 6 inches, you should see 2 bolts holding the bracket to the frame. The bolts are a few inches apart. http://www.mnsportcompacts.net/forum...etimage&id=670 |
