Phase 2 of garage mods have started. So with the help of Jeremy (supra guy who lives only a couple miles from me), we came up with these final plans for a cabinet arrangement on my back wall. So I took down all my old shelving last weekend on that wall, moved my work bench over, so I'm basically ready to start.
We took his van to Home Depot and picked up four sheets of 3/4" particle board for making the cabinet carcases out of and some other misc supplies (~$120 total). Threw em on his table saw and cut out the pieces to make the initial four lower cabinet carcases. I have them in my garage getting acclimated. Hopefully find some time to start assembling them in the next week or so. Pretty excited to finally start on these! You can kind of see his grey cabinets in one of the pics. Those are basically exactly what mine will look like, copying his design since they seem nice to me. |

Little project we have been working on at work. We were pushed to a different project but cool garage remodel. It now has windows and little finished up. Garage had normal trusses on it and was fully finished off inside with sheetrock. We saved all the sheetrock with minimal damages and added floor joists and the 2nd floor. Garage is 50' wide and 40' deep.

Re: House Projects
fuck thats nice. I need that.

Re: House Projects
Yep they will be 4-5" off the ground. Mounted to the wall. So fully open underneath for things like drip pans to slide / store under.

Got the lowers completely assembled with the backer plates on for screwing into the wall.
I want to make sure I document how I built them and all the measurements, so I nerded out a little in Solidworks. I drew a quick overall sketch of the general goal. Then I drew an exact sketch of all the pieces of these lowers. and assembled it in SW. Next I just need to mount these to the walls and then go buy some more sheets of wood and start on the next pieces. |
Re: House Projects
My garage is done on the new house! We close tomorrow finally!
These new led shop lights are awesome. I put 8 of them in and 2 shop fans for hot summer days. I thought about A/C but that was taking things a bit far lol. I do have it ready for heat but am waiting until next fall to put that in. I have a floor drain and big tub sink with hot/cold water with threaded faucet so I can put a hose into that and wash the cars in winter. Now, if only I had a fun car to work on here...someday again. https://i.imgur.com/ZeLvk5G.jpg?1 https://i.imgur.com/sIpPrFY.jpg?1 https://i.imgur.com/ytXvw4B.jpg?1 |
Re: House Projects
Thats nice you were able to get a floor drain! I don't think those are allowed everywhere.

Started mounting them to the wall. Got the first two mounted. The are screwed into the studs, and I also screwed/glued them to each other. Ended up roughly 4.5" off the ground, drip pan slides under nicely.

Re: House Projects
That's a nice looking garage you have. Looks like one is double deep? That's awesome. I would like my next place to have a garage like that.

Round 2 of the cabinets has started. Went over to supra dudes house on Sunday and cut up 4 more sheets of wood. This should be enough to do all 4 tall cabinets, and almost enough to do the ones that go on top of those.
Also FIL has a bunch of T5 light fixtures he's going to give me. So I'll be using those for u der the cabinet lighting, as well as some horizontal lighting. Pumped for this to be done! |

Closed on our house on March 26th and we've started construction on it before moving in. Plans in the near future are a kitchen remodel, moving a wall back to its original spot and redoing the flooring and trim as well as paint.
Most importantly, my truck fits in the tiny 2 car garage. |
Re: House Projects
Congrats!! Time for some house projects!!

So tonight I started sanding the edges by the wall with a small palm sander thinking it was no big deal. About 30 minutes into barely cutting into the wood and the sandpaper flinging off 5 times. I went to home Depot and rented their edge sander. That made quick work of almost all of the corners. The tighter corners I'll hit with a handheld detail sander.
I also took some more pics of the wall we are moving back to it's original spot. The previous owners hacked this whole house together. Glad to breathe some new life into it. Also, my back hurts like a mofo. |

That's a lot of work! Staying the same color(stain)? Or changing it up?

The parquet flooring in the hallway is getting removed but the previous owners tore out the original hardwoods so we aren't sure what we are going to do there. We would love to put some hardwoods in there get as close as possible to the originals but i'm not sure if that's possible. The home depot guy suggested Bauer Brothers to see if they have salvaged hardwoods. :violin: We are going to re tile the kitchen when we remodel that and I'm going to check the soffit to see if it's removable. There is a light in there so hopefully it's not going to be a very intrusive job. |
Re: House Projects
I need to build cabinets for my garage as well. I sheetrocked the whole thing, installed all the LED cans, heat and A/C, then quit. Still needs mud, tape, paint and cabinets. I have to quit buying car projects and make the garage a great place to work first.
I'm a little hesitant to use particle board on the cabinets as it absorbs any liquids like a sponge, but I'm sure a good oil based paint would fix that. B-man, I'll have to swing over and check the progress one of these days, I need to light a fire under my ass. :D |
Re: House Projects
Yeah plan is an oil based primer sealer. Then I'll use a,latex paint for the top coat.
|
Re: House Projects
You finish those cabinets up Brandon and get any use out of them?
I'm trying to figure out what to do to my garage and think the material you used would be awesome to save some coin and I would like to probably paint match to match the garage color eventually anyways. Any more updates from Pat? haha I need some motivation to get out in the garage and organize/clean and come up with idears. |

Been slow moving but i finally got the cabinets primed. Used oil based grey primer. Stanky stuff!

That looks beastly. Gonna be pimp opening the door to that.

Been working on electrical lately. I have power strips mounted. I have the t5 fixtures mounted. One underneath to light up the work bench surface, and one mounted to shine towards the car for imoroved under hood lighting. Each on their own switch. Still buttoning up that wiring. Also i bought 4 in ceiling soeaker from monoprice ($35/pr). Have our downstairs receiver land sub out therr for testing out. I also bought a used 8" 150w sub off ebay (same as the one im testing out). Hopefully get these ceiling speakers mounted and wired soon. I can fit a max 43" flat screen on the shelf, so im just keeping an eye out for some kinda smokin open box deal at best buy for a 40-43" smart tv (hoping for something around $150).

Re: House Projects
Looking good!
Not that you've used the bench or cabinets much but I see it looks like normal work bench already with tools and stuff sitting on them. How do they be seem to hold up on initial use? |
Re: House Projects
So far so good. I figured I could start loading them up since all thats missing there are doors. You can see i made the shelves the perfect height to fit oil jugs :)
|
Re: House Projects
I did notice how perfect those oil jugs fit in those shelves lol. How'd you attach the shelving? Use pin holes or just some boards on the sides for support to rest the shelf on?
I've watched and read a little bit on making the cabinets like you have and keep going back and forth on what I think I'd like. You're turned out looking awesome though. You'll have to post up how you like the speakers too. I've got just a bosch portable boombox sitting on the work bench or floor depending what I'm doing and it works good and has some decent bass actually since it has a sub in it. But speakers in the ceiling seems super clean and less shit out. Maybe someday I'll figure out what I want and just get a smart flat screen tv, get a sound bar and a little sub and call it good enough lol |
Re: House Projects

Well i took the day off work to get stuff done. I got the ceiling speakers mounted and wired. They sound ok, plenty loud, but really lacking bass. But thats ok because the sub helps there. I tried a bunch of different sub locations and configurations. One of the small upper cubbies fits it perfect and is the best sounding spot i tried. I also grabbed this receuver for free from my buddy who has been helping me. I think this will be the final configuration. Because the receiver is so deep i cant put a door in this spot, so im just going to leave these spots doorless. With the sub, the sound is awesome!
Went to best buy to scope out any open box deals. Biggest i can fit on the shelf is 43". They had a 40" Sharp Roku TV open box for $167. I almost bought it! But i want the biggest i can fit so im gunna hold off for a 43. So no tv for me today. |
