Re: Swifty
Hey, not having a job is mega difficult. Can't do anything, always wondering, broke.

Re: Swifty
So get a job ;) I see plenty of "now hiring" signs on a daily basis.

I'm a mover again until I find a better job (or dare I say a career?). But whatever the job, it sure is nice to have money coming in.

Re: Swifty
Just getting any old job isn't always as easy as it sounds. Shit, I was on unemployment most of the summer mostly because there is NO carpenter jobs out there right now. But, I still looked and ended up turning down quite a few jobs just because I made more money on unemployment than I did working, didn't make any sense to work more 100% more hours to make 30% less money, especially with a child on the way.

Re: Swifty
This whole "job" thing is a double edged sword, you have the people that actually want to work but don't have the knowledge/education or the communicational skills to obtain even the simplest of jobs; then you have the other people whom have the knowledge/education and the communicational skills to get jobs and they are just too fucking proud or lazy to start out beneathe where they think they should be.
I have fired many people that are over joyed to be on unemployment, and won't work for the whole 18 months they can get it, it's only when they can't afford to put $5 in gas in their cars that they will go out and try to get a job. It's pathetic really. Then I have the 1% that sends me reference letters the next week after getting let go asking for my reference to help them get a job. 9 times out of 10 I give them a good recommendation, because most of them are good people and workers, but have a hard time with policies and procedures or call ins. From my readings of Swifty talking about work over the last few years it seems as if he wants a high paying job that he likes, that he has a good amount of time off to do fun things, and then isn't very hard or stressful. I could be way off but I think that is why he gets crap sometimes. Who knows. Everybody is different from each other so I don't really pay too much attention. But as was said above, even with this economy there are jobs out there, you just have to be on top of your game and be ready to go in and look an employer in the eye and tell them how you can both benefit from you getting hired. I know those are things I look for when hiring people, 50% background/education & 50% character/personality. Sorry for the off topic. |

Thing is, you can't do nothing and expect to get there or fuck up, get fired for it, and expect to keep a job. |

I "actually want to work" and I have a college degree in an area that I feel could help many types of businesses. Manual labor is not the cat's meow, but I'm doing it to make some money. I'm not "too fucking proud or lazy to start out beneath where [I] think [I] should be." Maybe you are talking about a different sort of individual, but someone who's graduated with a 4 year degree or higher has already proven they have what it takes to get a big task done. They have a right to feel like they should be placed above the janitors when they look for a job. |

When I went to my new employer I was straight-up and said I'd take up to a 10% cut but would expect a good 1 yr review. They ended up offering me only 5% less (presumably because they liked my attitude) and after 18 months I'm now back to where I was. 5 or 10% pay cuts are obviously easier to deal with at 80k than 35k but the same principle applies. |

Allegedly his account got hacked or something. Whatever, I got some comic relief out of it.

Re: Swifty
Swifty threads deliver.
Sucks that his account was hacked though, and that he has to wait a week to defend himself... again. |
