I just picked up a Panasonic TC-P42S1 42" 1080p 600mhz plasma for $799 at Best Buy. Awesome picture, makes the XBox 360 da bomb on 1080p HDMI!!!

Get what you want now without fighting the crowds and then go back after with your receipt for their price guaranty and get refunded the difference plus!!!.

Black friday is ghey, I have to work 4am to 4pm.

But yeah, I'm keeping a new Samsung in back for me until I get off.

If your company is really looking to become energy efficient, tell them to replace all of their light bulbs and recessed lighting with Permlight LED products. I used to work for this company and the energy savings is awesome, and yet it produces the same if not more light than a regular bulb.
I don't work out of an office so I am not too sure what they do there. My closest office is in Austin, TX. The computers we have are Lenovo T500s.

Scheides, I believe Walmart is running a sale for $599 for a 52" Samsung, much better deal!

Be careful when just comparing screen size vs. price. You have to look at the specs between the two.

I have a 50" Sony Bravia 120hz LCD, a friend of mine has a 42" Bravia LCD 60hz, there is a noticable difference betweent two while playing fast paced video games and watching sports.

Again, as Tom and I have both stated, you still have an LCD. One is lit by a cold cathode fluorescent light, the other uses LEDs. Either way it's the same LCD panel. The LEDs are not turning on or off, it's still up to the LCD to block out light to make the screen look black.

Its nice to finally agree with Matt for once. :) Of course this has nothing to do with politics, and we both know about computers and IT Stuff.

But now also dont confuse LED backlighting to OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diodes) that are coming out in the near future. These are poised to replace LCD as they are Carbon Based LEDs that emit red green and blue light based on electrical current, one really REALLY cool thing about OLED is that it is flexable. OLED is amazing stuff. I can't imagine having an 11mm thick display, especially since LCDs aren't exactly big to begin with.

I have seen both LCD TVs in the store and really didn't notice a difference. If I stared longer I could maybe tell that one white is bright, one black is darker, colors being better, but at a quick glance it wasn't anywhere as obvious as 60hz vs. 120hz. But again, given the choice there's no reason to not get an LED LCD over a regular one as long as the TV suits your needs.

Also keep in mind that walmart's tv's are made specifically for them with cheaper compenents, and all around less quality. But with that, the price tag is also less.

are you sure they'll do that with black friday sales? Pretty sure thats a different ordeal than a normal ad, especially if its a doorbuster type thing.

If I go into Best Buy that Friday and the price is lower, I will hit them up for a refund for the difference.

Worst case, they have a 30 day no questions asked return policy. If they say no, I could just swipe the debit card for another just like it and cart it over to the returns desk and hand them the older receipt for a refund of the sale amount LOL.

This is the TV I picked up.

It works just fine. I did the same thing at Best Buy four years ago when I bought my first HDTV. Paid $2200 on Wednesday, brought the receipt in Friday afternoon and got $700 back. Lots of people do it and they know it, the kid at the counter smirked when I came up with the ticket. :redface:

so if its just the exact same screen, and the only difference is the back light, why do the led tv's have a contrast ratio of 2 million to 1, and the normal lcd's are normally around 50k to 1?

so why is it that the same lcd screen magically create 40 times more contrast?

because the leds are capable of turning on and off the help create richer and deeper colors. its called led local dimming, look it up

thats part of the reason led's are so much more expensive, leds are extremely cheap, the program that turns the leds on and off is very expensive.

didnt we just have a conversation like this in another thread, about people correcting other people but no knowing what there talking about?

The way you explained it was as if the LEDs were doing the coloring, not an LCD, and that is why I corrected you. If you want to argue semantics, that's fine with me.

what does the study of the meaning of linguistic expressions have anything to do with tv's.

you must have missed my previous post where i mentioned that the difference isnt the screen its the backlight. or you miss interpreted what was meant when i said that the led's create much much more contrast, which is the measurement of the difference in light intensity between the brightest white and the darkest black.

and local dimming causes the led's to turn on and off, and that is why i corrected you.
