I would have gone crazy and probably ended up in the back of the squad car. UGH this is ridiculous!

Im sorry Kracka :(

Did the guy get a ticket for having headphones on? Pretty sure thats illegal.

Hopefully things get fixed up with no frame damage. I doubt there is anything totally bent out of alignment but its hard to tell without seeing it.

I think the windshield and rear door glass not cracking is a good sign that things stayed solid and straight.

As far as I know the other driver was told to go home and was given no citations which is very frustrating.

You should have his insurance info, I always take down addresses off the cards too, just in case I need them at a later date.

Yep, I think it's going to cause long-term pain and suffering. Who knows if you can even work for the next year. ;)

Re: All we wanted was some BBQ...

The initial estimate from State Farm came back at $8,340, but they're arguing about a few of the things so I will need to fight with them a bit. The body shop is pushing them too so it shouldn't be a problem. All said and done I expect the final repairs to be right around $10k. The body shop said they have not found any serious damage yet and besides for sheet metal and paint the car is in really good shape considering.

I'm also a bit peeved my agent, or anyone at State Farm for that matter, hasn't contacted me today. The body shop has been in constant contact with me but I'm the one reaching out to my insurance company.

Same thing happened to me, I was kinda in limbo for a few days there. It sucked, but each time I called my agent I got through and he was way cool about everything.

Did you deal with your actual agent or some 1-800 call center?

That is a good amount of damage. Must be getting close to a total

They said it wasn't even a consideration once they looked at the car with my insurance adjuster.

I think a total has to be 75% of the value? At least thats why they didnt total my M out when it got hit in the parking lot.

Mine was at 7k of damage and the car was only worth maybe 11, still not totaled out.

Re: All we wanted was some BBQ...

Yeah, I knew it wouldn't total out. I've seen cars around the same value with worse damage than that get fixed. She'll be back and looking good as new in no time!

Sucks the insurance is jacking you around though. They tend to not like it so much when you don't use their "preferred shops" but there isn't anything they can do to prevent you from taking it where you want.

I thought they usually did the "get three quotes and we'll give you the lowest amount"-thing. Sure you can go wherever you want but it might not cover the repairs.

Sorry to hear about this Kracka. Too much carnage around here. Sounds like you are on your way to getting it fixed up better than ever.

Nope. By law you can take the car where ever you wanted to have repaired and as long as the shop charges are within industry standard there is nothing the insurance can do about it. State Farm had to send out an adjuster since they don't accept the quote prepared by a non-State Farm affiliated shop. Things will get worked out though, they're obviously in agreement with the big stuff and most the little things, just a few other little things need to be forced through :)

Reasons like this are exactly why I don't use affiliated shops or things like Progressive's concierge service. Shortcuts are guaranteed to be taken and the work will generally be of a much lower quality.
