Here's a video of the grind when I shift into 3rd.

what about it, sounds like you need a syncro :p

Re: 91 Galant VR-4 "Slutty Paula"

Keep doing it and it will need more than a syncro, it's probably already to the point of needing a new gear though.

Re: 91 Galant VR-4 "Slutty Paula"

Like I said though, it only does that when the rpms are over 2500 when I shift.

So my best bet is to crack open the tranny and to try replace/rebuild it? Idk if that's something I'd feel up to doing by myself. I'm option to advice as to where I should go from here.

Re: 91 Galant VR-4 "Slutty Paula"

It starts doing that at like only 8000, then it move down lower and lower in the rpms as it gets worse. When you need to replace an actual cluster gear shaft it starts getting very expensive compared to just being able to replace syncros.

Re: 91 Galant VR-4 "Slutty Paula"

So what you're saying is bring my trans to somebody and have it rebuilt? A quick google search tells me I'm F-ed in the A with a big D when it comes to trying to replace synchros myself :(

It was grinding ever since I bought the car. And the kid I bought it from beat the living piss outa it :(

I still have the option of selling the car back to him, but I'd rather not unless this trans thing is gonna rack up the $$$ quick.

Yank trans, bring it to a local sponsor, have them rebuild it. Or just have them do all of the work. Easy peasy :)

Or just find a new trans. quicker turnaround and you can probably find a decent one for ~$200-300.

Or just give it to me ;)

This is the option I'm leaning towards right now. Would it be dumb to just drive this trans while I look for a decent deal till it blows up, then swap in something else? Like, is there any reason to replace the trans now as apposed to wait till she blows up?

It won't leave you stranded if you replace before it blows haha

Re: 91 Galant VR-4 "Slutty Paula"

^eh I've got the premium AAA package. They've saved my butt a time or two when my subaru blew up haha.

Anyways, I swapped the winter tires from the aftermarket rims to the stock white rims today, and I've decided to buy some new summer rubber instead of putting the crappy all season tires back on. In the meantime, I'm going to powdercoat the aftermarket wheels matte black. Anybody have any suggestions on cheap summer tires?

Still a little unsure about the gas gauge reading half with only 50 miles on the tank. I checked and it doesn't look like it's leaking fuel and I can't smell anything around the fuel neck. I guess I'll know for sure if it's really running through that much gas or if there's a stuck float or bad sensor somewhere when I run out of gas. Unfortunately, I don't drive the car very much because I've yet to transfer the title or put insurance on it :/

Also not sure what to do about the odometer reading funky. I cleared trip A and trip B at the same time, but I've noticed they read about 10 miles difference???

I have decided to keep rocking the trans that's in there now and just push through the 3rd gear grind until I find a good deal on a trans that I can swap in. I'll keep my fingers crossed that I don't get stranded ;)

The day I picked up my VR4. I drove 177 miles with a slipping clutch, doing 75-800. With 1 or 2 100 mph jaunts and only used half a tank of gas. lol. So the gauge must be off.

Whoa! You were going 800mph for a while? That must be one hella fast vr4 haha. jk man, yea I'll hopefully at least has some sort of conclusion once I burn through the rest of this tank.
