This is why E85 can't be run in "normal" cars no matter how you tune them. It will destroy the aluminum and rubber components.

Most new cars are E85 capable... older cars that dont use the different materials for lines, rubber seals, etc can not use E85 because of what Hughes is talking about. Not so much "normal cars" but old cars are not capable of using e85 safely unless you redo the fuel system, engine gaskets...etc.

Ethanol is the same as any other alchohol based chemical. It contains water.

For those of us who run s/s valves, bronze guides, etc. it's not that big of a deal, but we still run cast iron cylinders, steel shim headgaskets, cast or moly rings. The long term effects are the problem.

Ethanol fuel is a stopgap technology until hydrogen powered cars become mainstream, however long that may take.

Well since I am the one driving my van getting 30mpg on ethanol and you are ignorantly spouting off on the internet your knowledge, with no facts of your own, I will maintain that I get better mpg with ethanol.

I'll believe you once you explain how it is possible. Ethanol contains less energy per gallon that gasoline.
