Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
lol, thank FSM for simple fixes. The feed line for the turbo has an adaptor and that wasn't tightened down enough. And I figured I'd just let'er buck with the thermostat and all was well, no problems, got up to temp and stayed there. adjusted the idle a little bit, it'll hang around 800-850. Baller. got all the vac lines hooked up and took it for a spin, went and got gas, half a tank for 20 bucks, haha. it's a fun-ass car.

Instead of having a bolt go through the valve cover like it used to, I took advantage of the head being off the car and drilled and tapped a new hole in the back of the head. It goes through to the water passage, but I'm not worried, I sealed it up nice. The bolt is more of a precaution since the CAS is a tight fit anyway. Better safe than sorry, I guess. |
Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Cool, what's the status of the bottom end?
|
Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Just waiting for the rotating assembly to be balanced, then I get it back. Maybe friday.
Then I just have to buy gaskets, and be sure to put it all back together correctly. |
Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Yay!

http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/DSC02561.JPG Here we go! 8:1 forged wisecos, shotpeened rods, block was bored with a torqueplate, crank polished and rebalanced. I'm going to start assembly later this week and take my time and do everything right. |
Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Awesome!!

http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/DSC02564.JPG Going together. I got the head on and found two broken valve stem seals, so I'm going to use the compressed air method for holding the valve while I replace the seals. Just need to get the rear main seal on, then I can put the oil pan on and start dressing the outside of the block. I need the stem seals and freeze plugs, then it can be buttoned up and installed in the car. The problem with having the head and manifolds on when it goes in is that I have to remove the hood. Oh well. small price to pay for making things easier overall. |
Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Mmmmmm sexy.

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Get some thin rope or thick string to fill the cyl just in case a valve drops! Looks megabitchtasticalawesome man!
|
Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Someone else said that also. I do have a large air compressor and all necessary tools at my disposal to use just air.
I would hate for a piece of rope to get stuck on a ring and scratch the walls or something. |
Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
dude its rope, its not going to scratch anything metal. its going to burn!
|
Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Your mom went to college.
And you never know, brah! Also, I would have to buy a rope probably. |
Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Dude, just use rope.... its fail proof.

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
We will see soon enough, I guess.

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
GM Trailblazer knock sensor. Booyah! it has an M8x1.25 bolt, so you get a helicoil for that size, and it threads right into the stock knock sensor hole which is M10x1.25, no need for an expensive "special tap." I got conned into buying one (kidding) only to find out it was the exact same pitch and size as the stock hole, so back to Ace hardware I go to return it (24-25 bucks ). Then you just snip the tip of the bolt and it goes right in. Voila, a brand new knock sensor from www.gmpartsdirect.com for 18 bucks not including shipping.
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/DSC02565.JPG Here's the passenger side, and all that's really left is to install the intake manifold and replace the valve stem seals that are broken (they broke from the lash adjusters being too tight, which also probably had something to do with the detonation which broke the hyperU engine in the first place, holy crap I'm an idiot for not checking the lash). http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/DSC02566.JPG And here's the back side of the engine, I don't know why, but I felt like showing this off, mainly I think it's cause I love the new drainback setup. http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/DSC02569.JPG Henjoy! |

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Sweet! That car should move pretty good with that turbo!
|
Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
It did for about 5 seconds before the old engine popped. This time no monkey business.

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Woot.
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/DSC02571.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/DSC02573.JPG Now it's the easy part. I have valve stem seals and the connector/pigtail for the knock sensor on order, once those parts come in, it's pretty much ready. I bet the 92 octane that's in there is still good. It's only been 3 months since I drove it last. |
Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Race truck motor!!! Nice work!

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
I posted this stuff on SQC and one guy, Phinko, made like 403hp with a 67mm t4 at 28 psi, lmao. I'm destined to be limited to 350. Next big mod will be a magna head with 50mm valves a heavy port job and a big ass roller cam. Booyah.

I just want the exhaust catcher. haha.

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
This post is more for myself than you guys, haha!
I have alot to do and little time to do it in. I finally replaced my valve stem seals, 3 of which I found to be bad. Before I only though it was two. I got the second port on my BOV retapped and got 6ft of bigger vac. hose for all that stuff. I ordered the same catch can that sheides wrote about, I also ordered an accufab BCFPR for a buick GNX, hopefully those parts arrive before go time. Go time would be a week from today (tuesday). I also got a hardware store coupler for my intake pipe. :D Picked up my pigtail for my knock sensor (holy expensive part batman - GM is really hurting if a pigtail is 45 bucks with the discount). What's left before driving is to put the radiator back in, get fluids in it, connect everything, put the O2 sensor back in, tighten everything back down and put my coilover back in the back. Stupid eibachs. Then I have to start 'er up and seat some rings, make sure nothing is leaking seriously and it should be ready. Oh yeah, I need a dumptube welded for my wastegate. That may or may not happen in a week. :) |
Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
All that blabbing and Now I have pictures! :)

Looks nice and clean!!!!

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Sexy. And for your next mod. A 4G64 :)
|
Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Rope in the motor is series business, avoid it at all costs. Looking good, you should put some hose clamps on the compressor housing to IC pipe connection though and a upper radiator hose.

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Thanks John, lol! Those items are happening today. And I used compressed air against the advice of many people. It worked just fine. Someday I'll get a real coupler for the turbo inlet, haha.
