Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Putting the battery down on the K member is super easy. I just used self tapping screws to hold the tray down, then used the stock tie down and bolted it to an existing hole in the lower frame rail. I had to pull some of the wires down a little farther to get them to the battery posts, but that just cleaned up the firewall a little more.
Another benefit to keeping it in the engine bay besides the cut out switch, is you don't need to rewire anything, and you keep 100% of your trunk space. |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Heard from Gosh today, he said he could see that the head gasket did in fact blow, he could see it on the deck surface of the head apparently. He is going to pull it all apart, hot tank it, install new seals, guides, etc. and install some Supertech dual valve springs I'm going to pick up.
I never really got a really close look at my cylinder walls, but I asked my brother to check them out today, and he said they don't look the greatest :( I will check them out myself hopefully on Friday when I am in town again. I don't want to pull the engine, but I will if it means doing it the right way that's what I will do. Hopefully I can just re-ring the pistons... |

Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Ditch the three solenoids up by the brake master cylinder fluid reservoir.

Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Got some new Valve springs today, brought them to Gosh. He said my valves weren't sealing well before so he's gonna fix that also, along with everything else.

Re: 1994 Talon TSi
My engine bay is a good example of what you can get rid of, without moving the fuse boxes. I did extend some harness so I could better tuck the main harness along the firewall.
1G AWD ABS removal: 2 lines not available from Mitsu, get from junkyard. I got the 2 other lines and the NON ABS proportioning valve from Brookdale. I think I have some more pics/info on the first page of my Talon project thread. Your intake manifold looked really good when I saw it at Primo! |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Got the A/C fuse box and emissions deleted today, I used heat shrink on the wires and did it right, then put the grommet back in the hole inside out like Mark said, it looks good. Got my Primo tinted tail lights installed, got all the padding junk off the firewall also. I am now working on dropping the main harness and dropping the battery along with a few other things and mounting my H.I.D. ballasts. Also ordered a JM Fab coil pack bracket, an AEM 35psi boost gauge, and some Taylor 10.4mm plug wires.
Also got my turbo back from being re-built, sold my old FMIC setup along with the piping. I will post pictures soon |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Mikey, I found some old pics from when I had this car that I thought you might wanna look through, back from 2002-2004. Bought it in 2002 stock w/ 63k miles on it...intake and exhaust in mid 2003, turbo, injectors, afc, maf-t, and FMIC in 2004 (IIRC)
End of page 1 thru page 4 are the new ones: http://www.scheides.com/gallery/1G If you look at the close-up of this pic, it kinda confirms that it was a 20g (when I had it) going by the casting on the comp cover: http://www.scheides.com/gallery/1G/DSCF0226?full=1 |

Also, that turbo wasn't on it when I got it, the numbers don't match up, the Compressor housing elbow in different, and mine wasn't polished when I got the car. So the dyno graphs on the first page of the thread were in fact with a 16g (Small 16g compressor wheel) on shitty 91 octane pump gas and probably a boost leak or two. Thanks for the pictures though!! |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Here are some pics of the cylinder walls. There is visual scoring, but a can't feel it with my fingernail if I scrape if side to side or up and down the walls. I think I may be good, what does everybody else think?

(.0015 was the smallest there was on the feeler gauge) |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
It doesn't look too bad, but I think as long as you have the motor out and apart a hone and a set of rings may not be a bad idea.

I just want to see you get this thing back on the road ripping it up. |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
95tsi and I got the engine out last night, thanks again dave! And I brought it to Gosh this morning. Working on getting the engine bay cleaned up with some Engine Bright right now as well as painting a few things to freshen it up some. Won't have pictures posted for a few days because they are all on my cell phone right now.
I will also be working on getting the ABS out, though I just had one question. The non-ABS prop valve has 6 holes in it, where do they all go? |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
There should be one in and two out for the front, and the same for the rear. The front-most line coming out of the master cylinder is for the front brakes

Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Pile of junk that is no longer needed:
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/IMG00435.jpg Random ass wiring, most of which was connected to nothing at all. (other people's hack jobs FTL): http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/IMG00436.jpg What came out of the old fuel filter: http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/IMG00439.jpg Some sort of Blitz EBC or something that I didn't even know was in the car: http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/IMG00437.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/IMG00438.jpg Cliche' pic of engine being out: http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...t/IMG00453.jpg Also, while trying to get the FIAV bypass installed during some down time, I found out that 3 of the screws are seized like a bitch. I even hit them with PB Blaster about 15-20 times randomly throughout the weekend and they still wouldn't come loose. I also sanded down the K member and hit it with some spray paint while the engine was out, as well as doing some really deep cleaning on everything. Didn't get much else done this weekend due to a wicked stomach flu. |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Way to go taking all the extra crap out of the car
On the fiav I always use a impact screw driver it takes them right out |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
That blitz box is from one of their boost gauge/turbo timers. When the car was broken into they stole the small LCD screen from in front of the shifter, but not the actual control box...classic. Blitz wouldn't just sell me the screen, so I never really got it replaced before I sold the car. I can't speak for the rest of that mountain of wires though, holy crap.
|
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
The rest of the wires were from what looked to be a CD changer, a big ricer shift light, a pretty nice Alpine car alarm that unfortunately never did work, some wires that used to go to the Dejon Tool dual stage boost controller for the High/Low boost switch, and also an old school Jumptronix A:F/volt gauge that I haven't taken out yet.
|
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
That big ricer shift light is nice ..I want it. I'm gonna put it on in the ponti.
|
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
Oh right! After it got broken into, I used the insurance money and bought two of those alarms; one for this beast and one for anna's 9-sec lancer ES :P
it was pretty nice when I put it in (audio king did, actually) but I'm sure they cut some wire and couldn't figure out how to get it to work again...those things are touchy. :( |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
OK, so I found this little diagram while researching on where the lines need to be plumbed for the ABS removal. Someone let me know if this looks right.
I am guessing the two holes that face downward in the picture, are the two that face forward real life. http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f8...untitled-1.jpg |
Re: 1994 Talon TSi
