^^do it! RF isn't really prepped well compared to other Race days. If you go on youtube, you can see the difference in prepping on days with muscle cars and days with imports.

Porkys shoot out gets really packed. Last time we waited 3.5 hours to make one pass then another 2 hours for another pass. I hope the 25th is nice at rockfalls. Awd always has traction so no worries there.

^um, if you make power, or launch with any kinda revs, you'd spin them all..BUT, it saves driveline.

I guess I can only speak from experience. I've ran Cedarfall, Brainerd and Rockfalls with almost all the same 60 foot times. With a FWD its a big difference between tracks.

Re: Last rock falls this year?

Ok, benchracer's league is on! Does anyone want to meet up and caravan out there together? I want to go early. I've never done this before so I'm sure I'll do piss-poor, but hopefully the weather will be nice and we'll have some fun :D

Is there a good gas station nearby, or is it best to just show up with a good tank from somewhere in the cities and run that? It's 100 miles from my house there and 100 back, plus some runs down the track, should be good to go on one tank.

Swifty1638 10-19-2009 03:12 PM

Re: Last rock falls this year?

There's a gas station with e-85 in hudson, i'm sure I'll stop to fill up there, and i'll get a full tank to show up with. We should meetat an early time in woodbury somewhere I think, unless people would rather meet up somewhere closer this way, and caravan there. Up to you all. I'm still working out things on the talon, and seeing if funds are allowing me to go.

Kracka 10-19-2009 03:16 PM

Re: Last rock falls this year?

Scheides, you should probably plan your fuel usage and arrive to the track with ~ 1/2 tank of BP93 from the Cities.

Way back in the day we would use the same Cub Foods parking lot to meet at that we used this past weekend for the cruise.

I'd join you guys if I wasn't going to be on my way to Texas!

Time trials begin at 9am so what would be a good time to meet at that Cub Foods in Woodbury? Better yet, what's a good time to get to the track? That worked out really good this past Saturday, I'm game to meet there again if anyone wants to.

What we usually do is try to meet at a gas station around 7am. Meet there, get some drinks/food for the ride. Leave around 7:15-7:30am. We usually get to RF by 8:30-8:45am. Depending on how busy RF will be since it is the last day, probably want to get there as early as possible (8-8:30am) because when we went there about 2 years ago (my second time going) there was a line of cars maybe 2-3 blocks from the raceway.

Re: Last rock falls this year?

I was thinking about coming out to take pics until I read back a page, then decided that I'd probably be appreciated more at work.

I completely forgot, the fact that I've been to CFR and spun my piss-slow car off the line means nothing because you guys have heard that they prep well. Prep is fine and dandy until the 16 year old tool running the burnout box sprays it down so well that the water gets tracked up to and 10 feet past the line. I dunno, maybe I got there too late, and maybe the friends of mine who frequent there have no idea what they're talking about either... But what do I know, I can't even tighten my own lug nuts or keep my car on the pavement. All I can tell you is that I had a bad experience there, and I know people who've had frequent bad experiences there and don't plan on going back anytime soon.

Swifty1638 10-19-2009 06:14 PM

Re: Last rock falls this year?

Honestly, for my first time out, I don't expect much. I want to spin them off the line..saves drivetrain. If I don't miss a gear, and can get a decent pass in, drive home, i'm happy.

Charles, come, take pics..I need some. Keep in mind, all cars must go through tech before racing, so make sure batteries are tied down, cut-off switches are installed correctly (need to get a new one/redo mine) and etc.

Kracka 10-19-2009 06:45 PM

Re: Last rock falls this year?

To elaborate on Swifty's post, batteries must be attached with bolts and metal so no bungee cords. Also, no open crankcase breathers (they weren't that strict on this years ago when I used to go, but things may have changed).

Swifty1638 10-19-2009 06:49 PM

Re: Last rock falls this year?

No dripping fluids, everything must have a sealed container, I don't even think they allow coolant over flow cans to have the drip down hose on them. Must be sealed/contained. Windows all up, all lugnuts on car, etc.

cmspaz 10-19-2009 06:54 PM

Re: Last rock falls this year?

To elaborate on Hughes post more, if you can move the battery at all by hand, no matter how much force it takes, they'll tell you to tighten it. Also, for those of you with battery boxes in the trunk, the box must be bolted down and immobile.

And yeah, fine, I'll see about making it out. I won't know until Wednesday.

Swifty1638 10-19-2009 06:58 PM

Re: Last rock falls this year?

^and to elaborate on his post, it must also be sealed. I don't know if they are THIS strict yet, but some places even make sure it's a taylor box or the blue plastic NHRA accepted battery box, with that vent tube.

blackrosenova400 10-19-2009 07:07 PM

Re: Last rock falls this year?

Well I cant drag, my crankcase breathing is open right now.

Also as far as the coolant overflow bottle goes, I dont see how they could possible force you to close/seal the coolant overflow reservoir, you could possibly over pressurize the cooling system, it has to breathe.

scheides 10-19-2009 07:20 PM

Re: Last rock falls this year?

Sealed crankcase, really? wtf do most dsm'ers do? I will be SOL if they call this on me. Does my catchcan/kracka vent setup work? Right now I have valvecover -> KV -> catch can -> breether tube w/ filter (tucked down behind tranny).

Also just figured out my helmet is only Snell95, so I'm buying zac lunch to borrow his.

Re: Last rock falls this year?

I had an open crank case breather when I wnt last year and they didn't say anything about it. They basically just looked to make sure nothing was leaking, or going to start on fire and let me go. He spent about 3 mins looking at my car.

x2
Here's the link to those of you who have a relocated battery.
http://www.rockfallsraceway.com/techfaq.shtml

They basically look at anything that won't leak or won't fall apart. Surprisingly enough, there are ALWAYS cars that have untightened oil drain bolt, radiator cap loose, etc. If any of that leaks onto the track, than it's like a 15-20min clean up till the next runs and that sucks especially if there ALOT of people. From my experience, if your car isn't leaking and nothing is falling apart, you're good to run.

I just really want to run because I haven't ran the Galant in 2 years since I've got it and plus the E316G and other mods. Not expecting much but just wanna go and see cars run.

I've had the drip tube and an open breather filter on both cars that I've taken there. they don't really check anything. they just make sure you aren't leaking anything. there tech inspection takes about a minute and if my car can pass it just about anybodys car can pass

I went on the last day last year and it wasn't that busy. I was able to get nine passes with a bunch of down time that I took to watch too

Re: Last rock falls this year?

^ Good info, I was worried about only getting in maybe 4 or 5 passes, which wouldn't really be worth it. I want to take a few slow passes at first just to get the hang of things, I think I got just 3 last time I went (first time to the track), and it wasn't that fun. But this time I don't have to borrow a helmet which will be much better.

Gapped my spark plugs down to .020 tonight because it was breaking up, hope to do some logging in the next day or two and everything should be ready to go this weekend.

Anyone know what the rules are on logging with a laptop? Can you strap it in with a seatbelt to the passenger seat?

Remember the knocking noise and how if you had ignition problems I should remind you to check and make sure your coils were still attached? Well, time to check :) At the dyno day the last 2G that went had BAD ignition breakup, he ended up jury-rigging some zip ties around the coils and plug wires to hold them down onto the coil securely, because they were slightly slipping off under WOT. Just a reminder :)

I logged with a palm pilot and docking station just sitting on my center console with no problems from them but I dunno about a laptop. I can't forsee it being a problem.

Re: Last rock falls this year?

Holy crap, I don't think I've ever been to a track where they were so hard core at tech. The guy at BIR didn't even check my battery box or see if I had a nitrous blow down tube. From what I've seen at tech they pretty much wiggle the battery and call it a day, if the battery was relocated I would make sure you have a working cut off switch though.

Oh yea, screw rock falls, come to cedar on Saturday instead!

1QUICK4 10-20-2009 01:41 PM

Re: Last rock falls this year?

My buddy didn't have a battery hold down so RF told him to find a bungee cord to secure it and come back

I've ran out there with hubcaps on and missing wheelstuds which are both against the rules.

They are very relaxed on tech at the rock untill you start running fast, something I've never really had to worry about
