Re: 2006 Corvette
Not sure when the guy is going to get back to me about those brakes, maybe he decided not to sell them anymore. Anyway, it's been a long time since I posted an official update.
First thing I wanted to do was get the z06 bi-mode exhaust installed. The new X pipe and mufflers are full 3" from the header collectors back, instead of the old 2.5" with the Corsa. Old vs new X pipe: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/.../exhaust_2.jpg New muffler on left, you can see the vacuum actuator which opens the valve for straight through mode: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/.../exhaust_1.jpg To get the actuators to work on-demand I had to install a controller box in the rear bumper area, and route a vacuum line from the intake manifold. The homelink visor buttons which control garage doors operate on the same frequency, so I setup the middle button for quiet mode, and the third button for loud mode. When you open it up at a stoplight you can hear it get a lot deeper and rumbly. Next up was painting the ugly gray aftermarket intake manifold. I wanted to paint it black for a stock/sleeper look. Before: http://i322.photobucket.com/albums/n...222_225834.jpg Got intake manifold off: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...intake_off.jpg Intake apart: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...take_apart.jpg Painting: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...ke_painted.jpg Installed: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...ngine_bay1.jpg Next up was the harmonic balancer. The car had a 25% underdrive pulley which I think was causing some weird issues, maybe with the alternator spinning slower. Also it was a solid metal pulley with no damping ability, so I went with a stock diameter ATI superdamper pulley. I got the old bolt out and was afraid I took out a piece of the crank, but it turns out it was just some loctite hardened: http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...crank_bolt.jpg I decided to pin the crank just as an added safety measure so the pulley would never spin or wobble. Since the crank is forged, this was a major PITA and took over an hour: http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...ank_pinned.jpg Lastly I decided to convert my car to E85. I installed a boost a pump because I was afraid I would max it out, plus a set of 880cc injectors. Out with old injectors: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/..._injectors.jpg In with the E85 today! http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...medium/e85.jpg Car is running great so far, has a little trouble idling just because the fuel trims aren't quite right yet, but it cruises fine and will be driving up to Minneapolis on Monday morning to drop it off at the tuner. Really excited to see what kind of numbers it makes. I think the tuner will be doing mostly street tuning for driveability purposes, but I'm going to see if I can do a few dyno pulls later in the week just to see where it's at. I'll have to see if DB has an hour or so free for this. |
Re: 2006 Corvette
Id say shes running rich by the e85 puddle under your exhaust :D
|
Re: 2006 Corvette
LMAO! After I posted the picture I noticed it looks like I spilled a bunch of gas or something (but the puddle was there before), and I was thinking about this picture you posted a couple years ago:

Re: 2006 Corvette
Haha I was thinking the same thing, but the puddle was obviously there already!
Cool as hell man, I was going to ask what was with the BAP, hopefully you see some decent gains out of the conversion and new parts. Boo on the brakes, but I'm sure you'll get to them sooner or later! |

Re: 2006 Corvette
OMG i didn't realize it was a targa top or whatever it is called. i want one.
Intake mani looks awesome Let me know what time you get in/up here monday, i want a ride after the tune. |
Re: 2006 Corvette
Most vette's are targa aren't they?

Very cool.

Re: 2006 Corvette
OMG, can't wait to ride in this thing. Will it be fully tuned and ready to rip for the cruise?
|
Re: 2006 Corvette
Holy crap I forgot about my awsome Microsoft paint skills!
Sweet, you are making it to the cruise! Quote:

Re: 2006 Corvette
Car is tuned and runs way better now. There was an o2 heater circuit issue but that's fixed and idle after start-up is night and day difference. Got 21mpg on the drive home with a strong headwind which is pretty awesome for E85 in my opinion.
I don't have dyno numbers but I'll try to post up some airflow and IDC numbers in the next few days. Haven't had a chance to go WOT yet, too much crap in the car on the drive home and roads were wet. I have some NT05 tires on the way, hope to install them before I come up for the cruise. |
Re: 2006 Corvette
double post.

Awesome.

Re: 2006 Corvette
i like how the mitsu symbol on the caddy looks like 2 little fishies jumping away from a shark fin.
must be that radioactive water under the front of the car |
Re: 2006 Corvette
damn, 21 mpg on e85 is definitely not bad at all!

Time for moar traction:

This thing is fantastic!

Re: 2006 Corvette
Found out the car is @ 80% duty cycle with the 875cc injectors, and pushing roughly 105 lb/min of air. Can't wait to get it on the dyno!
|
Re: 2006 Corvette
mmmmmmmm :D
|
Re: 2006 Corvette
1000hp????????
|
Re: 2006 Corvette
No, won't even be close to that. Not sure why, but the car doesn't make nearly the whp per pound of air as a DSM/Evo. Maybe the MAF numbers are inflated somehow, or the translation from Hz and temp to lb/min was wrong.
|
Re: 2006 Corvette
You sob. Sorry we couldn't T&C this weekend but your new setup is fucking insane. Car freaking rips, can't wait to see it on the dyno!

Re: 2006 Corvette
Good times this weekend, car seems to be super reliable and rips pretty good. Only race was between Spaz and I; was hoping to line up against Scheides or Leasure at some point too, but maybe another time.
Another pic of engine bay: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...engine_bay.jpg |
Re: 2006 Corvette
very cool! that beast must tear through some rubber ;D

Re: 2006 Corvette
That picture = bonahhh

Re: 2006 Corvette
So now that the word is out, how about some more pics of the install process, what does the FMIC look like....vertical flow? How much air does that thing flow, how much more boost could you run if you wanted to, etc.
|
Re: 2006 Corvette
Good god man.. should bring this to boost for boobies this weekend!!!
|
Re: 2006 Corvette
I knew you doing a blower on this. When I heard you were messing around with the crank pulley. Glad to see its boosted now. This thing must rip now. This thing going on the dyno on dyno day?

I'm not really sure what boost I can run safely. The pistons are 11.5:1 compression ratio which is pretty high, but I think with E85 I could probably run 10psi and not worry too much (double what I'm running now at 5psi lol). Compared to most Evos, my dynamic compression is still pretty low in comparison. Hell, the next owner of my V ran 9psi on pump gas on 11:1 stock motor and his is still doing great. The main limiting factor is the fuel pump. The Z06 pump is basically a Walbro 400, plus the boost a pump should be good to around 700rwhp. I want to basically max it out and quit there for a simple setup. Don't want to mess with a double pump setup, or aftermarket fuel rail and lines, etc. It just becomes crazy expensive and unreliable past that point. If I only end up with 650rwhp, I'll probably put a smaller pulley on it next Winter and run 7psi or something. Quote:

Re: 2006 Corvette
Couple pics added.
Took out all the air shrouds, there was one under the bumper and a huge one that separated the radiator from the old air intake. Now it's pretty much open: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...hrouds_out.jpg Got the supercharger mounted and awaiting the FMIC install. You can see the brackets below where the intercooler sits. The -4 SS line in the middle is the paxton drain line which I zip tied down low, I have to change the oil in it every 7500 miles, but I'll probably just do it every Winter when I do oil changes (probably every 5000 miles): http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...r_test_fit.jpg Here is where the install got interesting. The base model is straight forward, but the Z06 has an external oil cooler, which the previous owner installed on my base model for road racing. I didn't want to delete it, so I came up with some new brackets to have it mounted between the FMIC and condenser. I had to move the FMIC brackets about an inch forward, but everything fit and I was really happy. I know they are right up next to each other, but I was seeing 170* oil temps and only 175* coolant temps on the highway which is way colder than I expected. It's a huge f'in oil cooler, at least 6"x24". http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...il_coolers.jpg I have an 8 rib pulley setup I'm going to install next Winter as well, I got it with my 8 rib crank pulley but didn't have the motivation to install this time. Apparently it's a huge PITA to get the PS and Alt pulleys off with the motor in the car. |
Re: 2006 Corvette
It has a blower now! Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.
|
Re: 2006 Corvette
That's going to haul ass with 650 hp! Do you know how much it weighs?
|
Re: 2006 Corvette
That's too bad you can't make It to B4B. My girlfriends dad is a big vette fan, and I've been trying to talk him into some fun stuff for his base '07. He has a '63 as well (which is beyond mint), so maybe he will do something fun with the new one.
Was hoping some lsx and blower action, could maybe help in his decision haha :D |
