Re: The Gun Thread

I am looking at getting a handgun in the next couple of months. Right now I have my eye on a CZ75 in 9mm (preferably their SP-01 variant). The only thing is, I would like test one out, and I can't seem to find anybody who has this particular gun in stock. Any suggestions where to look? I've been to Bill's in Circle Pines. Does their Robbinsdale location have more selection?

Re: The Gun Thread

Well, I fired the CZ this weekend... didn't really like it all that much. Slide release requires you to use your off hand and it felt a little stiff on the whole. I also fired a Sig p226 in 9mm. I liked the mechanics of that gun a lot better, however the grip was a tad too fat for my hand. Additionally, I tried the Springfield XD-M in .40. I liked that one the best of the 3, but am not super crazy about DAO.

I think this coming weekend I am going to try the Beretta Px4 and Taurus 24/7 (both in 9mm)

Re: The Gun Thread

I own a Px4 in .40 and love it. Plus you get an actual safety unlike glock/xd/etc

I have a FN Browning HP 9mm that is forsale. It's got custom rosewood grips and is a very sweet semi-auto.

Re: The Gun Thread

I love my Sigs. P225 and 226. The 225 is going to be my carry gun, it has a much thinner grip than the 226 (single stack mag). They don't make it anymore, I think the 229 is the new version though.
I think eventually I want a gun in .357 Sig for my carry piece.

Re: The Gun Thread

Those .357 Sigs are very loud and have a big muzzle flash. I like 'em too:)

How much for the Browning HP? Pics?

Re: The Gun Thread

Over the last two weeks I test fired the Beretta 92, Px4, Springfield XD-M, Sigsauer P226, P229, 225, Taurus 24/7 and HK USP (in 9mm).

I really liked the Sigs but the 226 was just a tad fat but 225 doesn't carry enough ammo for my taste. The XD fired incredible, but I really want an exposed hammer (plus I'm not a super huge fan of striker fire). The USP came up the best for me and my initial groupings were the tightest with this gun. I am probably going to pick one up unless I can get thinner grips for the 226.

CVD, I have a good friend (the kind I would trust my life to) that use to carry the 225 and now swears by the 229 (in .357), so I think you are on the right track.

Just bought this a few weeks ago, thought id post up. I bought a Smith and Wesson Ar-15 that shoots 5.56 or .223. Just bought a red dot for it and man this thing is fun to shoot. Came with 2-30 round magazines.

I'm starting to look into getting a regular old boring AR-15 one of these days. My buddy recently purchased a Mosin Nagant 91/30, and an AK-47. I'd love to find someone with a ton of land in the middle of nowhere and do some long distance target practice.

AwdGSX13 02-16-2009 12:24 PM

Re: The Gun Thread

yeah, i hope once i can get some more money together to get a better scope for long distance shooting. Luckily i have a buddy that lives in Montana in the middle of no where. It was a toss up between this and an AK-47 and about $500.00 difference. I ended up with this because it felt like better quality and would last longer. My buddies SKS is what really got me into wanting an assault rifle.

I went to the gun show at the convention center yesterday and sold my FNH Hi-Power.

I was looking at picking up this

But ended up leaving with this.

I went with the Remington because there are more acessories and more bird barrels out there for it.

Sweet.

My buddy went to the show yesterday. I really wanted to go but I'm in Fargo for the weekend. :(

Just incase those ducks try and sneak down my hallway at night ;) You can duck hunt with 00buck right?

In all seriousness though, I have the original stock for hunting and will be picking up a 28" duck barrell and possibly a grouse/pheasant barrell.

Brandon - I am a member of a range down in Fairibault that goes out to 600 yards. Hell of a drive and muddy in the spring, but let me know if you want to get together some time and head out there. We usually have the place to ourselves except during hunting season.

Nice shotty Brian, I just bought a mossberg 500a for a house gun. It's in desert camo, but at $260 brand new I couldnt pass it up. Also recently got a Saiga 12 :) Now I just gotta get to the range to play with some of these new toys! I've got at least 4 new guns that I haven't played with yet.

Re: The Gun Thread

That'd be real fun. Longest I've ever shot from was 500 yards in the military with an M16A2. It's been awhile, but I'd really like to get back into it.

I'm realising how difficult it's becoming to find AR-15 upper receivers. They appear to be going like Hot Cakes.

I've decided I want a Lightweight Mid-Length. I don't know what brand I'll end up with yet since they are getting real hard to find. I'll probably just end up getting it from whichever company can get me one in a somewhat acceptable time limit, which isn't the way I want to chose, but oh well.

I will definately hit you up come spring though.

AIM is a good company, not much of a selection but good prices/products. I havent done much research but I think the CMMG uppers are good:
http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/U...ssemblies.html

If you want something really worthless you can even get an upper in 5.7x28mm :)

*edit: Just read that AIM is out of stock. Oh well, you could call and see if they have any coming in soon.

I'll be needing a new upper for my AR (jackass gunsmith fucked up the chamber and now spent cases get stuck). What I'd rather do though is grab a Sig 556.

May as well throw up a post with my latest acquisition, a Smith & Wesson 99 Compact (.40 cal) with tritium night sights. Might make a good carry piece pending extensive range testing.

Might as well join in.

Here's what I got this last Christmas - SA 1911-A1 Loaded. I still want an AR15 too. I did pick-up a Rem 700 in .223 and a Ruger 10/22 along with the 1911. I would like to try and stretch out the Rem .223 one of these days too. I shoot my 1911 and Ruger in the backyard - 20 acres. :-)

More than welcome to. Want to tentatively plan for the end of March?

I just started looking for a new AR15 upper now that I can afford it. Sadly it seems I'm about a week late. Anywhere and everywhere that sells AR15 anything is out of stock due to the new assault weapons ban legislation they just announced. Yay.

All the parts I used to build my AR15 a few years ago are selling for double the price now, if you can even find them. Even though my AR15 is broken I could probably get what I paid for it. People are nuts right now.

Re: The Gun Thread

you can find plenty of the AR15s around here. Right now all I have for guns is my Stevens model A 12g and then the new 40 cal Glock that I just bought.

Where do you guys go to shoot? I know I can look up local ranges on google, but just wondering if you have any favorite places. Out in the country or at ranges mostly?

I really want to get back into shooting, I used to go with my dad and shoot his shotgun and 22s for fun, but I'd like to get some accuracy with my xd40, I sort of suck over 20 yards haha.

I was really into target shooting for a while. My friends and I usually go to Bill's in Circle Pines.

I have a Glock 17 & 23, a Para .45, an NAA Guardian .380, and a DPMS target .223 (bull barrel). By the time you have that many firearms you also have a safe and a few thousand rounds on hand...an "arsenal" as the press would say.

Re: The Gun Thread

A few thousand rounds?? holy shit man.

I have a Cooper .223, Mossberg 695 bolt action 12 guage for deer killing, a 12 guage trap gun, a couple of .22's, and a 20 guage and I maybe have 100 rounds laying around total unless I'm about to go hunting or target shooting lol

I was in to IDPA for a year and would go through a case (1k rounds) of 9mm per month in practice. I've done courses with LFI (Ayoob's school) where we'd run through 400 rounds/day (that actually hurts if you're shooting anything above a 9mm).

I have a habit of being very serious about my hobbies but I also switch them up every few years (home theater, car audio, private pilot, handguns, and now cars). I guess it's the way I roll.

goodhart 09-22-2009 04:14 PM

Re: The Gun Thread

Damn, 1k rounds a month gets to be pretty spendy...

I guess I wouldn't be shooting that Five Seven I've been wanting if I shot that much.

Re: The Gun Thread

I shoot at a private outdoor range in Faribault. It costs me $50 per year for the gate code. The best part about it is most of the time I'm the only person there, and can do whatever the hell I want.
I'd like to get into more competitive shooting but I just don't seem to have the time. Instead I just head out there once in a while and blast at steel targets.

goodhart: you must primarily be a hunter to have so little ammo laying around. I have a rack of ammo in my basement that's pretty much stocked floor to ceiling. Even I was starting to think it was strange to keep that much ammo on hand until prices more than tripled.

Yeah, just a few years ago a case of 9mm was $325 or so for the decent stuff. Throw in range fees 2x per week and you can see why I only kept that up for a year or so. It was clear I wasn't the next Wyatt Earp and I was burning way to much money on it (I still own the car when I spend money on it...ammo is just gone).

Aviation was the same reasoning for me...easy to drop $5-10k/yr and you don't have anything to show for it other than memories. That's okay for a while...

Went shooting today with PolishMafia and A////Guy, it was pretty fun. I brought my xd40 and Pete brought his 9mm, not sure what kind, maybe he'll chime in. Anyway, the three of us went though about 200 rounds in about an hour. Almost $20/box for the brass .40s&w, I forgot how expensive it was.

I'm sort of bad since I only go about twice a year, but I took a picture of my target. One 10 round magazine at 7yds (haha) and one at 15yds. You can sort of see the labels next to the holes in the white. I did better than I expected I guess, only one in the white at 7yds, and 50% in the white at 15yds.

The other pic is just a pose when we were finished, we're not actually retarded.

Oh yea, my dad just picked up an M1A, that will be fun to shoot on Christmas vacation out west. I can't imagine shooting things at 500 yards away, blows my mind. Of course I probably won't be accurate over 100 yards, lol.
