Re: Project Lex
I didn't keep the car long enough to know how long it lasted haha.
But I just texted the new owner, he said it died on him after sitting all winter. I installed a cutoff switch on the battery so it would last longer, but he forgot to do that and killed it. So I guess you just have to be a bit more careful with them compared to a normal battery, if you can get 15lb lawnmower matteries every year for $25, that's probably a better route. |
Re: Project Lex
Corbeau's ftw. LG's are like the wide fat man seats of the Corbeau lineup too.

Got the seats today after a slight boondoggle of them being shipped to the wrong address. None the less, I have them and the brackets. I unwrapped them quick just to check em out. I think they look great. I sat in one and it felt perfect. Very comfy, bolsters on the bottom part aren't over sized so they're easy to get in/out of. The side bolsters for the upper torso area are a great fit, not too snug, but not overly loose either. Also I was pleasantly surprised to find out the reclining uses a lever. I thought I'd have to deal with a dial like on the Evo 8 seats. The lever will make for much easier/quicker reclining when taking the kid in and out of the back seat. You'll also notice I paid the extra couple bucks for the upgraded dual slider brackets rather than the single slider.
Hope to get at least one of them installed over the next couple weeks! http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1440730250 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1440730250 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1440730250 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1440730250 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1440730250 |
Re: Project Lex
Those look nice. Black seats might look odd though.....
|
Re: Project Lex
You should just have me drive you around to help blend them into the interior.
|
Re: Project Lex
The seats look nice.
That lever is nice. Those dials are one thing that is kinda a pita to deal with as a passenger, takes forever to recline! |
Re: Project Lex
Those will be nice! Going to replace the carpet first before you stick them in? Or dye it black?
|
Re: Project Lex
Brownman, did you miss the part where I'm redoing the interior this winter to a new color scheme?
Peter, I'll be doing that this winter. The seats in general were planned for this winter, however since I'm going to try and race at PG, thought it might be nice to take advantage of the weight savings these offer so going to do the seats a little sooner than originally planned. Plan is to just dye it black. I have been reading how heavy the stock carpet is though, so there is actually a good amount of weight savings to be had by replacing it (30ish lbs savings) So I'm considering that, but at the same time if it weighs so much because it's helping insulate the interior sound wise, I hate to replace it just to have it ruin the quietness inside that I'm really enjoying. |
Re: Project Lex
yeah my bad.
Can't wait to see it done. |

Passenger side is in!
So I had read about how bad a lot of these seat brackets were, so I was expecting install to be a little bit of a PITA. Well I was wrong, the Corbeau brackets fit perfect. 4 bolt holes to attach to the seat lined up perfect. The 5 holes that go to the stock location lined up perfect as well. Install was an absolute breeze! I also busted out our highly inaccurate bathroom scale. I weighed the stock passenger seat at 56.5lbs. I weighed the replacement seat at 29lbs and the bracket at 11.5lbs. Not quite the weight difference I expected, but again this is my chinese bathroom scale. I also predict the stock drivers side seat will be heavier and be a more significant weight savings. The seats fit in the car great, feel comfy, a hair more difficult to get in/out because of the torso bolsters but really not that bad. Overall very good first impressions, couldn't be more satisfied. Only negative things are that the seat belt clip sits a little high, but whatever I'm sure they have it like that to clear the worst case scenario seat with super high bottom bolsters. And also it takes a little bit away from the sleeper-ness of the car, but that's kinda to be expected. Bosses stamp of approval. Pregger Wife even said it felt snug yet comfy, and she's packing an extra person right where those bolsters are! http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1441072383 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1441072383 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1441072383 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1441072383 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1441072383 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1441072383 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1441072383 |

Drivers side is in! Drivers stock seat weight a bit more, 68.5lbs. New seat was the same weight of about 40lbs with brackets. So 28lbs savings, plus 16lbs savings on passenger side, total of roughly 42lbs. Not as much as I had expected, but still a nice weigh loss. And I think I'm going to like these seats better than stock, win win!
Here's some pics. I'm glad this car has the auto steering wheel retract when you turn it off since you do have to lean forward a little more to get in/out. Makes it an absolute non-issue. http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1441329947 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1441329947 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1441329947 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1441329947 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1441329947 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1441329947 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1441329947 |

seat height might be like an inch higher. there looks to be a couple washers i could remove to lower it a hair, but just going to rock them as is.

11.6 @ 131 mph, 2nd run (best run) in this car.
Real happy with the trap. 60' obviously needs work, been spoiled with awd in the past. RWD feels like a different animal. Either way still happy with mid 11's. |
Re: Project Lex
Definitely have a 10 in that car once you get the 60' down. Should be doable with the NT05R in back. Nice work so far though!
|
Re: Project Lex
Thanks man. Got the tires down to 20psi. Might try 18 tomorrow. Getting a bit of wheel hop. Will see how it goes manana.

Re: Project Lex
I thought this car was black all this time until I saw it at BIR today. Looking really nice and clean. New seats looks awesome.
|
Re: Project Lex
Did we meet? Sorry been running into a lot of people. Car broke first pass today so 11.6 remained my best. Not sure what happened, wondering if my clutch fused to the flywheel.
|
Re: Project Lex
No we didnt. I just walked passed it. No one was around.

Ah ok, I been in the tent selling shirts.

Back from BIR. Overall I think a very successful first track visit in this car. It wasn't perfect. I have a lot of learning to do when it comes to launching this car, my best 60' of the day was a 2.1.
My goal was really to just make some nice clean passes in the car. I was expecting 12's and 125 traps. I surpassed that with a best of 11.6 @ 131. If I can get that 2.1 down to say a 1.8 which I think is a very achievable goal, I'd be knocking on the door of 10's. And also getting the setup from it's current 20psi setting up to 30psi, I think my traps will be in the upper 130's. This will put it pretty much exactly where I had my old Talon at which was my end goal of this entire build. Similar power / track time as the Talon, but in a vehicle that is much more comfy / quiet / old man friendly / sleeper-ish. Break down on how it went. First "thing" that happened was we fucked up the front lip taking it off the trailer. That was super sucky, but it sort of fell back in place fine so it's not so bad. maybe I'll just get some carbon fiber band-aid stickers or something as a funny fix. First pass was a 12.1 @ 127.5 with a 2.2 60'. This was in full street form (even still had the sub in the trunk). Car weighed in at 3460lbs. Launch was horrible, lots of wheel hop, NT05r's still at 30psi. Second pass was an 11.6 @ 131.3 with a 2.1 60'. I removed a bunch of weight for this. Pass seat, sub/amp from trunk, all trunk carpet, rear seats all came out. Car weighed in at 3320lbs. This was my best pass of the day. Launch was a hair better, I had lowered the rear tires down to 20psi. The weight reduction had an awesome effect on the trap. Third pass was an 11.7 @ 131.8 with a 2.2 60'. I removed the entire exhaust from the downpipe back. You can tell in the video it is significantly louder. It's stainless so I bet removing this put me under 3300lbs, unfortunately the scale was closed at that time so I didn't get to re-weigh it. I'd guess probably a good 40lbs was removed though, so probably right around 3280lbs would be my guess. I thought the reduction would have had a bigger impact on my trap, but I gained almost a mph with it. I put the tires down to 18psi. Lots of wheel hop again. Still was happy that I was able to basically duplicate the previous run. This was the end of Friday nights fun. Fourth pass was the next day, Saturday afternoon. 2.4 60', but then you can see in the video this is where the car broke on the 3-4 shift. This ended my racing for the event, threw it on the trailer and called it quits. I'm still not sure what exactly broke, but the symptoms are that the clutch basically no longer disengages the tranny from the motor. Everything feels right when you push the clutch. You can see the slave is pushing the fork just like it should. It just doesn't do anything. If you have the car in say 2nd gear and are driving around at 3k rpm, you should be able to push the clutch in and the tranny disengages, the rpm's drop to idle speed. My car right now, that same scenario you press the clutch in and the car just stays at 3krpm, the tranny is still engaged like you didn't press the clutch at all. But like I said above, clutch pedal feels normal. So the one thing that comes to my mind is perhaps the clutch fused to the flywheel? Car will put in the garage and stored for winter early. So I guess I'll get a head start on this winters upgrades, which now also includes having to get this beast of a tranny off which I'm not looking forward to. All in all though, I was really happy with the car. The car felt strong and I felt safe and comfy in it. If that is what truly happened, then I'd say the car actually held together well as this isn't so much something that broke, but 2 parts the decided to just get stuck together. Here's a video of the 4 passes in order taken from inside the car. Also a few pics I snapped. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcPb...ature=youtu.be http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcPbRghQoQ0&hd=1 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1442247771 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1442247771 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1442247771 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1442247771 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1442247771 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1442247771 |
Re: Project Lex
Brandon, I bought this transmission jack and love it:
http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...0984_200640984 I pulled the 47RE trans off my diesel dodge 2500 by myself with it with minimal hassle. I use ratchet straps instead of chains. I also used it to mate the trans to my 4G63 on an engine hoist, too. I like it because you can angle it on 2 axis' with a good amount of precision. |
Re: Project Lex
Cool, my HF jack is pretty bad. Maybe I'll give that a shot, thanks man. What sucks though is this tranny is just so large it doesn't fit well, that's the sucky part.
|
Re: Project Lex
Nice work, I'd be shocked if you didn't surpass those goals!
I can't wait to see what it does turned up! I bet it will do 140mph. |
Re: Project Lex
Another thought. Some supra guys have issues with their master cylinder not having enough to fully disengage the clutch and upgrade to the tilton bolt on master. Two other guys currently doing the CD009 swap on their SC's had a similar issue and upgraded to the tilton master which fixed the problem. So maybe i need to do the same. Going to give it a shot before I pull the trans.

Re: Project Lex
Not bad! Talking to rwd guys, it seems the burnout is pretty important as well.
Do you have any kind of launch control or are you just free revving it at the line? 130+ is moving! |
Re: Project Lex
Free reving. Yeah I been talking with Dave Henry, getting some pointers on doing longer burnout, and faster. Said he used to do his in 2nd gear. He also mentioned the track maybe have been shitty from all the street tires and potentially shitty leaky cars.
|
Re: Project Lex
Can you setup a 2 step?
|
Re: Project Lex
Yep, just need to wire in the clutch pedal switch. I was hoping to have it done before PG but ran out of time.
|
Re: Project Lex
That will make life easier for you, anything you can make more consistent will help you get faster like 2 step, boost by gear, tire psi, etc.
Can't wait to see you get faster with this thing! |
Re: Project Lex
Would love to figure out how to leave on lower boost and bump it up in 2nd gear. That'll be some time though before I start toying with stuff like that though.
