Re: Project Lex
Slicks yo!

Re: Project Lex
Yeah, but I should be able to do a lot better than 2.1 on my drag radials I'd think.
|
Re: Project Lex
With street tires I dont think you want to leave on boost.... you will spin for sure. Wish I could of watched this thing make a pass. Get some better tires in the back amd work on that 60 foot. With the power and your weight you got 10s in it forsure. Your car is no joke from what I see on the time slip. Once you can get the car hooking and leaving hard then mess with 2 step and other stuff. Boost by gear would be nice to. Idk if you do all that stuff and cut a good 60 foot you could run mid to low 10s.

Re: Project Lex
Street tires they are, but we're not talking about some Pep Boys summer tires. These are 00 treadwear rated Drag Radials (NT05R's). There are 500+ V8 guys cutting 1.6's on these tires (albeit various different sizes). I think I should be able to cut a 1.8 with them with some more practice.
Boost by gear I'm not sure how I'd do that with my crazy trans setup. Probably would end up having to be mph based or something. Need to research that more. I'm also a big fan of keeping it simple, so going from an MBC to an electronic setup running of the ECU, not sure if I'm ready for that jump yet haha. |
Re: Project Lex
You need weight transfer then. Try throwing in some worn out front shocks next time you hit the track. Oops, I meant front struts, a little more work.

Now that I have Solidworks, I drew up some parts I've been thinking about.
1) Front bumper / radiator cover to help keep airflow from escaping that large opening and instead going through radiator. 2) Spark plug cover for the 2JZ-GE valve covers. Nobody seems to make something like this, everyone just pays $300 for a used set of GTE valve covers and another $100 for GTE plug cover. No thanks, I'll keep my GE ones, and this plug cover should help it look cleaner. Will get them made out of CF once I'm happy with the prototypes. |
Re: Project Lex
FYI, shocks don't modify weight transfer.
How about some CF covers that say 'slugworks racing' on them?? ;) |
Re: Project Lex
Can I get them with "Janky Engineering" on them instead? :)
|
Re: Project Lex
As for suspension talk, I've done more reading. It sounds like my current suspension of OEM supra springs with Bilsteins is still regarded as a pretty deng good setup for the money. So probably just won't touch that at all.
The only coilovers that really stand out to me are the HR ones, but they are discontinued and only can be found if I order right from Germany. Around $1200, think I can find better things to spend that on. |

Design finalized for the Front Cover and the Rear Cover!
SolidWorks is dangerous, I can see myself easily becoming addicted! These are just prototypes made out of scrap sign material. Looking into getting some made out of CF. Hopefully in the next few weeks. |

Very nice

Well just some quick updates here. Nothing real major.
I purchased a CF hood from Advan. Stock hood weighs around 60-65lbs. New hood weighs 25lbs. Yet to get it installed, but soon! I also just hit send on my paypal account. I will be ditching the Megasquirt setup and switching over to an AEM Infinity 6 w/ Plug n Play harness from Vlad (Supra & Infinity Guru). Done dealing with the dumb little MS shit, time to just pony up and get this thing running like a top. I do still have to work through my trans issue as well. I bought a Tilton Master Cylinder that is halfway installed. Hopefully that takes care of that. And lastly as you saw in my other thread, I made these carbon fiber plates that are on the car. Really cleaned up the look I think. Also been selling em on the side like crazy which is pretty cool! Pic on my car and some others: http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1451943564 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1456785685 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1456785685 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1456785685 |

Parts look great.
Excited for the AEM, good move. I'm also drooling over the sc400 Turbo you posted above! |

AEM, yes!! Also the carbon bits are top notch!

Re: Project Lex
Sexy hood and covers! CF all the things.
|
Re: Project Lex
can CF me some pants?
Also CF me some dsm parts? |
Re: Project Lex
Let's do it. As long as they're flat, flat pieces are cheap and easy :)

So the AEM will be a few weeks yet since he has to make a special harness for me. In the mean time, I've picked up some stuff. Got some of those Aero hood pins for the new hood. Also got all my sensors I'll need. AEM SS 5 bar MAP sensor, AEM SS 100psi fuel pressure, GM Flex Fuel, & a MAC 3-port boost solenoid. Good news was I had enough points on my credit card that I got all those sensors, plus a new Ryobi ONE cordless setup for free!
I also have some new ABS sensors on the way that I'll need for setting up traction control. I also got my new Tilton Clutch Master Cylinder half installed. Hopefully I can get it further installed over the next week or so and figure out if that fixed my tranny issue. If not, then yaay that pig gets to come out. Crossing my fingers that doesn't have to happen. http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1457736255 |
Re: Project Lex
Glad to see you got some genuine Aerocatch vs the ebay/cheap stuff.
I love my aerocatch hood pins. |
Re: Project Lex
Cm on man, I'd never buy cheap ebay knock off stuff... :P
|
Re: Project Lex
lol, well they are $12 so it's pretty tempting vs the $80+ or whatever they are now.
I haven't installed mine yet, cutting into a CF hood is scary! |

I think I paid 70. And oh yyeah I was tempted, but just went with the real deal.

Re: Project Lex
Some more little updates. I was able to finish up installing the new Tilton master. Was hoping I'd get lucky and that'd fix the trans / clutch issue, but nope. Still looking like the clutch and FW fused. I'm going to swap in a new slave this week sometime hopefully just to scratch that off the list, but I doubt that'll fix it. So then the trans will be coming off. No idea what the timeline looks for this now. But when the trans comes off, I'll likely be switching over to a new adapter setup that mates a stock supra auto bell housing to this trans. Supposed to make this fit a whole lot better which will be nice, and also use off the shelf clutch parts.
I also picked up a set of Megan adjustable rear lower control arms. These should help me get the rear better alligned since the car is lowered, and help me square up the tires to the road to help with traction. That's the idea at least. |

Well while I'm waiting on my new slave to arrive, I decided to do a couple things.
A took out my gauge cluster and sent to Tanin Auto Electornix to get the bulb changed over to LED and to fix all my burnt out needles. I also took the opportunity to swap in my new steering wheel I picked up. First time ever removing / installing a steering wheel, wasn't too bad, took me maybe 15 minutes. Really digging the new one! It's out of a Lexus GS300, but from JDM land so it would have been a Toyota something or another (Aristo maybe?), sorry I'm not caught up on my JDM models, haha. http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1458599803 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1458599803 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1458599803 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1458599803 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1458599803 |
Re: Project Lex
Nice!
Can't wait to see the gauges too! |
Re: Project Lex
More modern, nice! It looks a bit smaller diameter, any issues seeing the edges of the gauges after that? Smaller wheels are nice.
Assuming those are cruise controls on the wheel, hopefully you were able to keep that functionality (plus the airbag maybe)? |
Re: Project Lex
It's actually damn near identical in size. I put it on top of the old one and it was pretty much the same size. And the gauges are gone so no idea, lol. But yeah same size so shouldn't be an issue!
The air bag I removed, it's just a hollow cover at this point (puts on flame suit). The cruise switches don't work since I removed cruise from the car. But I left them on there just in case I need a switch on the steering wheel for something, I could use it. Say to enable rolling anti-lag or something like that. |
Re: Project Lex
Nice, I've never heard of that Tanin place. Looks like they do nice work. They even have DSM stuff on their page :)
|
Re: Project Lex
Yeah it's who all the SC guys go to, supposed to be pretty good.
Update on the car. I put the new slave in, didn't fix it. So trans is coming out. I have the driveshaft pulled, trans drained, and a whopping 2 bolts out of the trans so far. Not a bad start though for have a half hour of time to work on it. |
Re: Project Lex
Sucks to hear about the clutch. Hopefully you can get some type of resolution from the manufacturer.
|
Re: Project Lex
Yeah I tried writing them again and no reply. I was writing Vinny Ten Racing though, as that's who I bought it from. Next I might just try writing the manufacturer (JWT) instead.
It's kinda funny, I purposely bought the stuff from Vinny Ten because of how much I heard them promote themselves as being the best all around 350z guys with the best knowledge and best customer service. But they sent me the wrong clutch, then asked me for more money when they realized it was the wrong clutch, finally sent me the right clutch, couldn't get me a replacement friction pad for my flywheel, and now don't reply to emails. |
Re: Project Lex
Sounds like most shops that are the self-proclaimed experts on forums.
|
Re: Project Lex
wtf. I'd be going someplace else. If you know the part numbers, I'd just order locally.

Re: Project Lex
I'm not trying to re-order anything. I was just trying to ask if they've seen anything like this before with this clutch / flywheel arrangement, and also if they know what exactly the 'metallic' clutch disc is made of (i.e feramic?).
I'm not even sure what this new setup I'll be running uses for a clutch/flywheel setup yet. But yeah not going back there for sure. Here's the new adapter setup I'm looking at: http://collinsadapters.com/index.php...n-adapter.html |
