I thought you were going to use por15?

Re: Project Lex

I think powder coating anything possible is a great idea..we have a great local and reliable resource for this and cost is low enough to make it worth it.

Looking good man!

Re: Project Lex

Exactly, while it's out might as well just get everything coated that I can.

I did considered por15, but just decided to use Rustoleum. Don't think I ever said that I was 100% set on the stuff.

Re: Project Lex

I've been doing research to undercoat my civic and apparently por15 is pretty spendy and needs a lot of prep, for something that you plan on not seeing any salt it looks like you went the right way.

This is super random but I had a dream last night about you and your car. You got the trans and rear end in a rush to make an appointment with Shane and you threw it in and turned up the boost w/o changing anything else and made 599...you were flipping outwith excitement!

He didn't mention you are naked throughout the entire dream.

Lol, Scheides you must have gone back and read posts 578 - 586 or something...

Anyhow, no huge updates, but I did get 2 coats of paint on the rear diff. Looks much better I think compared to the old!! Going to give her one last light coat and call it good.

Shot a light coat of black on the wheel hubs and rear axles to clean them up and prevent rust. Put the last coat of black on the diff. And shot the areas under the car where I put the rust inhibitor. The paint already feels pretty solid so I think it'll be good.

Depending on how much they end up quoting me for that rear subframe, I may listen to you brownman and just shoot it with this stuff too, I'm liking it so far!

I also just purchased a pair of new rear brake rotors (slotted, zinc coated) off ebay :)

Took the rear subframe to AA Driveshaft in Anoka, they were able to press out the old bushings. They said getting the new ones in may be tricky though. Amazing how hard it is to find a shop that can do this stuff.

Anyway, here some pics. Old bushings out, new bushings arrived and will be going in once I get the subframe cleaned up / coated :)

New chinese special eGay rear rotors showed up today. Slotted / zinc plated. Not too bad for $79 shipped :D

And since I know someone is going to ask, I did not buy these because they were slotted. I bought them because they were zinc coated. If I could have found blank/solid zinc coated ones for a reasonable price I would have chosen those. I plan on getting these same ones for the front as well.

Nice Ive been looking at zinc plated roaters ever since you posted about them before. That day I looked at mine and the hats were totaly rusty I think if nothing else it would be worth the zinc coating to prevent that.

Halon 11-30-2012 05:38 PM

Re: Project Lex

Yep, that's pretty much why I wanted zinc.

Re: Project Lex

that transmission looks pretty beefy, looks very similar to a STi 6speed, minus the front diff. how much does it weigh do you think?

Re: Project Lex

No idea on a number, but definitely more than your standard dsm awd trans. I was still able to load/unload it from the truck by myself, but it wasn't easy.

Re: Project Lex

i know the STi 6speed in around 100lbs more than a wrx 5speed, hopefully it doesnt have any issues putting down the power you want like i said it looks big and stout

If SP can push 1200hp through theirs with several drag passes & dyno pulls, then I think it'll handle anything my little 61mm dishes out.
