Re: beaterX project thread
Shitty. Does it sound like it's starving for fuel or what?
|
Re: beaterX project thread
No, like a hard shutoff from the ecu. It runs perfectly for 3 secs, then dies. Checked a ton of the sensors, everything seems to be plugged in. I found a loose bolt for the positive alternator lead but that didn't change anything. Battery is strong too.

Re: beaterX project thread
MAF issue possibly? I am trying to think what could be wrong, that is strange.

Re: beaterX project thread
AC and starter...but my car didn't start at all. They are the same damn plug and very close to each other. But like I said, my car wouldn't start at all.
|
Re: beaterX project thread
Almost sounds like a relay. Are those a returnless fuel system? I guess I have no clue on the X setups. I read online that some people were having issues with the key fob and the ecu not recognizing each other but Im not sure what factory option you have on your car.
|
Re: beaterX project thread
Not a fob issue and it looks like the plugs Murlo mentioned are correct--they only fit one way on my car. If I feather the throttle and keep it up around 3000rpm, it will sometimes stay running for a bit longer, maybe 8 seconds. I did find the iat sensor in the bumper wasn't plugged in, but the problem persists.
|
Re: beaterX project thread
I forget about that sensor every time I take my bumper off, lol. Sometimes I have to take the bumper back off because it gets stuck between shit, stupid sensor.
Strange though about it not staying running, something is amiss for sure. |
Re: beaterX project thread
Sounds exactly like what happens if you try to start an 8 with the wrong key.

Re: beaterX project thread
Did the flamadation valve go bad already?
Ahh hopefully you can this sorted out, sounds like the ecu is going into limp mode. My car will not run either when in limp mode, ironic I know. |
Re: beaterX project thread
Stupid flamadation valve!
Things to check tonight: -check CELs -reflash latest known working rom onto ecu -fuel pump relay? -rag in an IC pipe -pull valvecover, --double check timing (maybe I did part of it wrong?) --check chain stretch indicators -figure out how to check/reset timing chain stretch setting in the ecu (need oem tool for this I think) On the upside, the coolant leak appears to be fixed! |
Re: beaterX project thread
Jim is puking his guts out from teh flu or something so I'm not going near him to get my cable. On top of that, I have an interview tomorrow and had work to do tonight, so when I got home I walked past the evo, gave it the finger, and came inside for a night away from it. It kinda kills me, but I don't want this stupid car to own me. I worked on it saturday 9:30am-1am and sunday 10:30am-9:45pm, and monday 7-10pm (after working 8-5/10-12).
I have to work tomorrow night too (I say this regularly....but just FYI I always work 8-5 in the office, and the nighttime stuff is usually after-hours deploys/upgrades/fixes for the same '40-hour' salary....just wanted to clarify that this is not like 'i have to work tonight but did nothing all day' kinda shit), but if I'm lucky I might get a few minutes to look at the car after I get home. |
Re: beaterX project thread
That sucks man :( I hope you get it figured out soon. Jim probably has the shit that's been going around, hope he's feeling better. Good luck on the job interview tomorrow too!
|
Re: beaterX project thread
Sounds like that same shit I had a few weeks ago :( Lasted 3 days for me, sucked arse.

Re: beaterX project thread
Would my cable work or is it too old? I could drop it off in your garage tomorrow after work if it would be of assistance.
|
Re: beaterX project thread
X requires a Tactrix 2.0 cable.

Re: beaterX project thread
From the garage (finally):
Pulled apart most ic piping, no rags stuffed anywhere. Also tried hooking up intake right to TB, no does exact same thing. No CELs, only one was from when I started it with the sensor unplugged. Reflashed ecu with stock rom, same thing. Popped off valvecover, liquid gold (oil) everywhere, yay! Gonna check timing and swap fuel pump relays. Lomker, remember when your car wouldn't't start on that angle/grade? How low were you on gas? I have a solid 1/3 tank. Maybe I'll get a few gallons of gas to pour in? |
Re: beaterX project thread
I got stranded on a 1/4 tank once as well. Same thing as you were describing. Car would start and die after maybe 4-5 seconds. I could rev it to keep it going for maybe 10 seconds but it didn't want to stay running.
I filled up with a few gallons more and viola, it was fine again. Good thing to check, but seems unlikely at 1/3 of a tank. Text me if you need me to check my car for anything for reference...hopefully you figure it out...i remember I looked at my cars wiring diagram and engine bay at DB with Danny and Brad? for like 2-3 hours and still nothing. Finally Danny swapped the two plugs and bam! Its probably something simple. I have extra relays too if you need some...somewhere around here. |
Re: beaterX project thread
Timing is perfect, chain stretch marks are well within spec.
Swapped relays, no luck. I'm going to go get some gas. |
